  • The highlights of Benji Marshall, one of the best and most entertaining players in the NRL. Renowned for his exuberant sidesteps, flick passes, no-look passes, kicks, and his ability to conjure something out of nothing, Benji Marshall won the 2010 Golden Boot Award for international footballer of the year. The New Zealand captain lead the Kiwis to victory in the 2008 World Cup and the 2010 Four Nations Tournament, as well as the Wests Tigers to Premiership glory in 2005.
Benji Marshall has broken numerous NRL records, and his name will forever remain in history:
Highest try-scorer for Wests Tigers (71)
Highest point-scorer for Wests Tigers (1007)
    Longest field goal ever (51m)
Most games ever played in a season by a player (34 in 2010)
First West Tigers player to win the Golden Boot Award
3rd New Zealander to win the Golden Boot Award

I've seen them all since 1963 and Benji is the most exciting league player of them all. He wrote the book on how to use the ball and how to use your feet. He changed the game by inspiring so many since in how to play " Benji-ball". We won't see another Benji.

There were two guys before him--Allan Langer and Carlos Spencer of rugby union. They lit up the field with what we can only dream. Benji brought the game of Remus Gentles into the NRL and exploded.

The thing I love most about the way Benji plays is that he is so insanely good at eyes up footy that even when his plans fail like a mosh it kick or whatever, he reacts so fast to what’s happening that everything looks like it’s done on purpose. He’s a freak of nature

Single handedly for 5 years who's talent was a class above anyone else. In my opinion if u look at any world class player in there prime, benji still stands out. Definitely brought the game alive. Well done benji, and don't forget mate... u were once the best footballer in the world

I’m gunna speak nothing but facts.. it’s Benji”s 300th game this week, I’m 56 old and I’m going to say HE IS top 5 most influential players all time...between 2005 - 2012 he was constantly top best 5 players in the comp. if you go back and look at the footage Marshall was constantly performing way better than those who at the time Would eventually create legacies if here own, like slater, Thurston, Lockyer, Cronk , smith, kimmorley, Soward,Jennings ettinghuesen, the list goes on.. he was solely responsible in creating a new fresh stylish type of player who always would try his best at ALL times. And making other future greats look average at times. Also take into consideration if he was available to play origin?? Or for Australia?!.. fuk me he would be even more so recognised as the player he is but 10 fold.. that’s a big difference in legacies there, playing origin and not and I have no doubt he would be an immortal...Lockyer? Mm really... was good but he always just seemed to “ fit” in the representation of the teams he was in? Definitely overrated... and yet we have dale cherry Evans who’s on 1.9 million for 2 year contract and he is fukin hopeless... anyway

Marshall brought in the Kiwi flair that got the Australian crowd excited because they haven't seen that kinda free flowing footy. There are league purist where they believe playing to structure is the way to go. It has its merits but you need to be creative to put points on board. The closest Australian to play creatively is Allan Langer. His grubber kicks, right foot step, and passing game was a nightmare for NSW. Today, the NRL is boring and almost robotic that there is little free ball footy. Shaun Johnson has his off days but he's still a wizard.

He should be considered for immortal status. He done everything but state of origin for obvious reasons, but he would’ve killed the origin scene at his prime anyway. There’s not another player who has had an impact on a whole generation of kids like Benji.

Benji is the only player from nothing to create something from nothing using his personal skills with either his passing kicking of footwork plus back around 2010 tigers probably were the team with the best teamwork completing tries which included more then one person all the time

Yes and no. Almost every kid in NZ plays like Marshall. This is common playing street/hood touch where we are free to express ourselves in the field.
