Queen have 2 great albums. Lots of fluff and annoying songs. Beatles, stones, who, kinks, pink floyd, yes, Led zeppelin, deep purple, black sabbath, iron maiden, judas priest: all are way better than Queen. Way more better bands too. Most overrated band in history. Queen have lots I love but did nothing new.

Freddie was a classically trained pianist and grew up surrounded by classical music. The operetta section ( staccato with Scaramouche!) is directly influenced by the great English operetta composers, Gilbert and Sullivan. Their works were filled with humor and killer rhymes!
This is why a broad exposure to all kinds of music is the best- you have so much to draw from with your own songwriting!

There is an entire documentary on how Freddie wrote this song and how Queen put it together in the studio--very interesting--this was all recorded "old school" so it wasn't easy. Also anything from the Montreal and Wembley concerts are great live performances but to really see what one of the concerts was like you need to watch it in it's entirety not chopped up. There was no down time between songs--just so much energy--you feel like you were there.

  • @audiofile8833

During the operatic part of the song, Queen would walk off stage. The reason being that that part of the song was a pure studio creation, and really couldn't be creditably reproduced in concert.

Freddie wrote all of the lyrics himself. Fun fact: Queen spent days overdubbing the vocals in the studio using a 24-track tape machine. The analog recording technology was taxed by the song's multitracked scaramouches and fandangos: by the time they were done, about 180 tracks were layered together and "bounced" down into sub-mixes.

The Queen band says Freddie had this composition of his, a masterpiece done ... lyrics and music ... when Freddie brought it to them. The four of them and crew worked several weeks to record what he had on paper. . . and what he played for them. Queen, a magnificent team. Truly, them and each Legendary. Of course Thanks much for your attention to this.

If given a choice I would prefer to listen their music live. There’s always a difference between what’s being played on the album and what they are playing to an audience. Because it wasn’t a concert, it was a show. But the next 2 days afterwards you still knew it was loud because of the ringing in your ears. If I remember correctly, Bohemian Rhapsody in 1981 was the last song performed, God Save the Queen closed the show.
