    One quick note - I was able to find one of the Sony WH-1000XM4's on Amazon for around $200, so you may be able to find these other ones at less expensive price tags as well. I realized after filming this that the AKG's MSRP is more than what I was able to find it for, but the trend is still that it's the least expensive of the bunch. Also, you can usually find any of these on sale.

      i did a mix eq. on EQ APO compressed and inverted xm4 csv file. after that added momentum3 csv file and lowered its db of peaks and notches too. After that i replicated what i see on analys panel on SPOTEQ iphone app. its still a litle bit muddy but soundstage is far better and sounds far better i think.

    I thought the price of these influenced what I thought of the sound quality, until I saw this video. They sound great, especially in wired mode with amp. Believe it or not I got two of them for $60 on a recent sale bundle with Samsung s7 tablet. Incredible deal for great headphones. I still use the Sony XM4 for noise canceling though when noise is an issue.

    one thing missed in the video is you will be blown away with how amazing the audio if you use this headphone wired and then turn anc on.

    For me the better move is to get a pair of wireless IEM’s for on the go and then your audiophile wired headphones for home. Of course this will probably end up costing more overall, especially when a DAC and AMP are factored in, but is better than having one device try to do everything in a mediocre way.

      Tried 1k IEMs at audio 46 before, and there is no comparison to audiophile over ears. 1k IEMs may only sound as good as 150 to 200 over ears maximum. To me, I don't want to sacrifice sound quality on the go. Bluetooth headphones are out at first. For wired, of course 1k IEMs won't sound as good as 1k over ears, but must be at least as good as 400 to 500 over ears. IEMs just don't justify the cost. And over ears easily blow IEMs out of water.

    I bought N700NC M2 for like $80 and its great but the headband started cracking pretty early on with just normal use. I guess my head is too big for it lol. It doesn't impact functionality, it hasn't fallen apart but the plastic material seems very brittle. It's no Sennheiser plastic. You can find them for cheap brand new on ebay, no one should pay msrp for these. Samsung used to bundle them with phones so that is how they ended up on ebay.

    Thumbnail is an art indeed) For the purpose of EQ on Android devices one can use Wavelet. And not just with it's baked in AutoEQ profiles or Graphiq EQ options but actually importing your own profiles. Using measurements from Crin was able to play a bit with my Momentum 3's and tune them to HE-1, susvara, utopia and many others. Someone may say it's not a good idea to EQ any headphone this hard and I'm not sure if it degrades the sound but that was fun. Also now I can tell that recessed 1-2kHz region compared to Harman is to my taste. Making those presets takes some time but I can send them if anyone would like to give it a try.

    If I understand correctly, ANC of today doesn't really work on high frequencies. They are just too fast for them to react to properly. You'd need a really high powered chip (a computer basically) to achieve that. Treble attenuation is left for the passive isolation properties to take care of. This I've notice well on my Airpods Pros, which aren't that great at passive iso, so they let trebly sounds of wet car tyres etc through but block out the engine rumble nicely.

This is important for someone who is going to listen via Bluetooth and looking for great sounding headphones. As for wired connection it's good since it is always active, I don't think you can use it passively. Sound signature remains the same.

    The XM4 has a good sound, but did not impress me at all. I remembered that the free AKG Y50bt that came with my Samsung S10 sounded almost as good as the XM4 and I was expecting the XM4 to do much better for the money, but it did not(only talking about sound quality).
    However, after your video I remembered how good is the AKGs, I bought the N700nc m2 to try and thank god I did, I returned the XM4 immediately the AKG sounded better in everyway, the bass is much better and the overall sound quality is amazing for just 125 Euros compared to 250 euros of the XM4.

      Variations around Harman or other reasonable targets as measured on industry standards compliant rigs are a good bet to start (but not always, some headphones may be mis-represented in that area on some artificial rigs and there are some noticeable variations among third party measurements, even on industry standards compliant rigs), but the reality is that it will depend on what your anatomy makes you expect and how the individual headphones interact with your own head, so some some leeway in that "grey area" may be what suits you best - just not excessively so. Best reference for that is a decently set up pair of near field monitors IMO :D.

    I'm very curious about your opinion for the Momentum 3s. I found their sound 'hollow' and 'dull', yet detailed. I think the bass is boosted, mids are recessed (vs. the bass) and their treble is perfect, though it could have more 'air'. Soundstage and imaging is nothing spectacular. Only treble and resolution are, in my opinion, excellent (vs. other wireless headphones).

    • @ResolveReviews
      @ResolveReviews 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually I think once you reduce the bass by a decent amount it's got a relatively even balance. It still has some harmonic imbalances in the upper mids and treble, and those are issues you can't fix with the app. But at the moment it's the most 'audiophile' ANC headphone I've heard because it's actually detailed.

      @@ResolveReviews Few days before I have ordered Sony XM4 as successor of my Momentum 2 wireless. I was so disappointed by lack of sound details even after Momentum 2 that I was heading here to find that more "experienced ears :)" has similar opinion. Now I am testing Momentum 3 also and it is much better for my liking. But I am just curious that you are mentioning them in this video as they have something that someone should not want them either. Please could you be so kind and let me know what do you mean in particular? From my point of view: worse ANC of course, maybe even worse comfort (but the tight clamp gets better after few days), not so advanced app and eq, better controls (very subjective). But still sounds so much better than XM4 even after equalizing them. So please share you point about them if possible.thx!

    Great point about transients and trailing ends of tones. The k371s sounds wet or sodden compaired to Sennheiser HD6__s and that explains alot about this whole noise cancelling market segment.
    But on a similar subject... that mic is not very fast or particularly with transients. Ever try an Earthworks mic, say the SR40V? That would up your audio and make your YT vids worth listening to with kinds of cans you often review.

    • @TheHEADPHONEShow
      @TheHEADPHONEShow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At the moment I have to go with a dynamic mic that does a really good job at ambient rejection due to the environment. Eventually I'd love to be using a shotgun mic once the room is acoustically treated

    • @FiveEars
      @FiveEars 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheHEADPHONEShow Of course you decide, but I would note that in my experience the hyercardioid pick-up pattern rejects small room reflections very well without sacrificing sound quality. When you don't need to worry about the mic being in the shot, a competent hypercardioid stage mic (cf., also Sennheiser e965) does the trick and sound WAY better than these ubiquitous dynamic "studio" mics (e.g.., RE-20, SM7B). The problem with booms is that you will need a large room if you are to have a hope of actually avoiding unwanted reflections. If you have a rental shop around, compare a Sennheiser MKH50 (out of shot) and an Earthworks SR40V in shot. A mounted hypercardioid stage mic can lose out on openness, but for podcasts the resulting intimacy can be engaging. Anyways, keep up the good work.
