The connection Sean was able to establish with Jack is so special to witness in real time. Never was Jack so candid and genuine as when Sean was interviewing him. Thank you for showing us the human behind New Jack
Glad you are posting these. Too many jerkoffs have stolen your content the last decade. Clean/sober new jack was an incredibly different guy, and he could have been a hilarious entertainer in any field. Thanks for this!
I hope someday Steve will learn how to edit these videos correctly so that they don't randomly cut off halfway through. The video itself is already done, literally all he has to do is hit the upload button and it still gets fucked up
Guys like him and Cornette made the "shoot" interview business IMO. Their early shoot interviews were huge on youtube back in the day, honky tonk man also had some great ones early on. its the reason i started to listen to that type of content. These days i don't even follow current wrestling shows, but im still fascinated with the lore of the wrestling business, now that everything is out in the open we get to hear all of these old stories. RIP New Jack
One of the best interviews ever because it was so genuine. New jack was a disturbed violent individual but we understand him more because of the topics of discussion. Great job sean 👏
This is one of my favorite interviews ever. For New Jack to let loose and just be himself. Sean just knows how to bring the best out of Jerome. I would've loved to meet New Jack. R.I.P.
Man Sean, that opening with New Jack and the Stevie Wonder gimmick had me cracking up. You and Jerome seemed to have had quite a good connection. Always a joy to watch and of your stuff and New Jack's as well
One of the top 10 promos IMO in the history of the business. Man Jack had charisma and great promo ability. . His Smokey Mountain stuff was just brilliant

I used to watch new Jack as a kid on channel 35 in Philly on ECW. He was my favorite I swear I saw him on a train one day while I was coming home from school I was too afraid to say hi
Wow this interview is so calm and collective compared to years later and how he ended up. He was very likable and not scary in this one.... Great interview.
New Jack is a great interview and story teller. He might not have been the most technical in ring worker but he could 'work' and he was over no matter which company he was in he was over
Though I don't agree with a lot of his actions, I can see why he turned out the way he did. He had been through a lot of trauma, physical and mental. Hopefully he can rest now.
I wish I had seen this interview before the Dark Side of the Ring episode. I never felt like we got to see the real Jerome Young in that episode, but this interview comes much closer. I have seen other good interviews with New Jack, but they feel much more "in character" than this interview. He basically admits at 27:23 that we will never know for sure whether we are seeing Jerome Young or New Jack.
I would've loved to meet New Jack. His interviews are always real. Sean has always had a great way to have a conversation. New Jacks impersonation of Stevie Wonder hilarious.
It’s funny but “deadbeat fathers” get talked about all the time but nobody talks about the sadistic/sociopathic mother which is sitting at the same number as the deadbeats, if not MORE.
1:12:03 when talking about comedy influences I knew New Jack would say Richard Pryor not because they’re both black but they have similar personalities as they both did coke and crack as Richard Pryor would tell jokes about his alcohol and crack addiction, also I knew when he said he’s a storyteller and Richard Pryor was a storyteller too
Holy shit... Jack saw compassion as a weakness. He was full of love and passion, but we all become programmed to be certain ways. That one thing, him learning to dismiss compassion to survive emotionally, then taking coke to deal, is what I think made him generous. The love and appreciation he's shown for Ricky, Robert and Tracy proves he had great heart. What a fuckin human, lol. RIP legend
@@jimmymetal713I never recognized Patrice’s greatness until recently, I was like 12-13 years old when he passed so I wasn’t at the age to understand the humor he spit on stage…
Just so I got this straight I just spent the last hour getting worked by New Jack. Jerome was such a fascinating man. He had endless charisma and lived his gimmick. I swear in other interviews he tells actual stories about attempting to murder people and by the time he is done you feel bad New Jack did get them.
I feel bad about how much that cracked skull affected him. Like that pain, insomnia, blindness, brain damage is all permanent ever since that fall. You can't tell those things just by looking at him even with the blindness. All you can see is the scars from where he got so much color over the years which isn't much in the grand scheme of things. All the really messed up health stuff was invisible. Even with the brain damage, cracking his skull is a lot worse than the wrestling CTE stuff you normally hear about but you can tell in the interviews he's still there and can think just fine, maybe with some pauses, but not like what you hear with Benoit and such. lots of wrestling documentaries still treat him like a heel cuz he was did some messed up stuff in the ring. But it was ECW, and he was doing what paid so it's more like paulie was the violence equivalent of vince's sex pest stuff imo. He had a ton of potential with how good his promos were, even when he's half-blind with those injuries, but ecw used him up and spat him out letting him be the fall guy in more ways that one.
Every time he tells the story about his mother getting stabbed and watching her dress turn turn from white to red, I get chills. That is the seminal reason as to why he was such a psychopath. That’s exactly why he stabbed people over and over again in his life. It’s so rare to get a glimpse into the mind of a maniac and get to see the exact point in time where the seed of pure evil was sown and then get to witness the chaos it would go onto cause. Crazy stuff and scary stuff
@@gts8919 the super chilling part was the fact that despite watching his father try killing his mother multiple times directly in front of the young new Jack, it was his mother that he loathed. He stated multiple times that he hated her, wished that she was dead multiple times, so the story about her poisoning his father wasn’t something that I put much stock in. Always seemed like an excuse he made up to make it alright to hate her in his mind. As far as hating his mother and loving the abusive father, I always thought it was because he ended up being worse than his dad and didn’t want to admit it

He had a happy ending. It always messed with my head until I was talking to his tattoo guy. Losing him while he was at a point where he was peaceful, he was happy, his career was beginning a resurgence-- I couldn't make it make sense. But he said, "That's how you want to go." He was right. He would've hated being old, or being sick. Knowing he was happy means a lot.

I thought it was less a connection being made and more the drugs kicking in.

New Jack was an asshole, but at least he was honest.
