You don’t need to get rid of Morgan Riley you need to give Morgan Riley some good coaching to get his confidence back. He has all the skill and ability to do everything that they would want him to do in order to become once again the number one defender, but he needs to get his confidence back. His confidence is lagging. They need to spend some time with him in counselling and encouraging him and building him back up and showing him that he can do it again. He goes into one on ones feeling like he’s already lost before he even gets there. He needs to feel like he’s got it beat before he even gets there. That’s how he once played. That’s how they need to get them back playing again, but that’s gonna take some good coaching and some good attention from the staff of the Maple leafs to build him back up and restore him to what he can be And then we’ll be ready for the playoffs

Yanni Gourde would be a excellent addition as for Oleksiak can be a great depth defender maybe kill off penalties , TBH I don’t know much about him, is his skating up to today’s fast paced play? Gourde’s playoff experience would be beneficial. As for Tanev , takeaways are very important part of the game , maybe the leafs can send Robertson, Reaves and Hakanpaa ?

Age does equal experience, as long as the players healthy enough its ok, they are not part of a rebuild, they are part of a "do it now" scenario....as for Gourde "not being that big" Darcy Tucker, Tie Domi, they were not that big either, and they were hard to play against, it all goes back to "its not size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog"......theoreticaly bigger is better,but thats not always the case.

I would personally dump Nylander because he is the one single player in the forward that turns the puck over more than anyone else in the entire team even more than Riliey or Robertson, please pay attention to his play and watch the replays of his handling of the puck. I would never want him to be the last man back to try and defend because he’s the worst defensive player on the team. He’ll never throw a good solid body check. He’ll never even push the other player off the puck. He always tries to just steal it and do stick work, which is in fact effective doing that often, but he is the worst on the whole team for turning the puck over.
Bruh... How do you expect to fit all these guys under the cap... Even with Retention .. Youre still 2,3 Oleksiak, 2.6 for Gourde and 1.8 for Tanev. gutta move out about 7M. Double retention wwwould be too pricey or depth pieces like this. I could see 2 of the 3. Tanev and Oleksiac then the cheaper centre i think 2.6 is to much for gourde.
Nick is doing ok. Rielly and Holmberg are ridiculously bad. How can you play on the first line and second line and still come out with zero. And Rielly has been awful. But the guy is a good playoff guy. Tough to watch.
I think with the decline of timmins and myers we need another top 4 dman . Someone who can work with Reilly so McCabe and Tanev can go back to shutdown line. Also OEL can go back down to 3rd line where he belongs. He played well for Florida last year on the 3rd line.. he’s not a top 4 Dman
