    I have had a AX33 for over 5 years. Its still my primary, though I am considering the AX700 as a next step. To me the AX43, which came out after the AX53, is nothing but a neutered AX53.

    Great level of detail in this video. I'm in the market for a camcorder for my TH-cam channel.
    1) wide ane lense (or the option to add)
    2) wireless mic function
    3) flip viewfinder (preferred non gloss screen)
    4) good low light capabilities
    Any suggestions please 🙏

    This is an excellent video. The best part is the practical tests like actually going outside and zooming, but for me the running part is the best. I have a train that shakes my house quite a bit and need the best stabilization to deal with this. Thank you.

  • @jcap8391
    @jcap8391 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Seems like stabilization is better on 43. Would you use any of these over a Sony zv1 for TH-cam reviews? Nobody uses a camcorder anymore why though? Is there something I'm missing?

    Hi!
    What is your opinion on using any of these camcorders for streaming? I already have a7sii which I'd use as wide shot cam (because of lens lacking zoom range), but looking for for a 2nd cam with powerful zoom to make mid to close-up shots.
    Any thoughts on pairing a7sii with ax33/43?
    Thanks!

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the biggest thing with using a camcorder like this for streaming is just to make sure you have plenty of light. The AX33 footage gets a bit grainy even in medium lighting. I still use it for my overhead shots, though.

    What camcorder would be ideal for mainly low-level lighting or shadow focused filming?

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably something with a much larger sensor. The AX33/43/etc. has a 1/2.3" sensor, where the AX100/AX700 have 1" sensors. They're more expensive, of course. Sony made a Full Frame camcorder for a while, which was much more expensive

  • @Akrokto
    @Akrokto 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for this review. Just thought that AX43 was older than AX53. Confusing names. I need to record interviews and presentations, maybe some sport matches. So probably I don't really need the viewfinder and AX43 is cheaper. Only one question: for the uses I said, AX43 is a safe choice? There are cameras around this price (like any Lumix, Canon) that works better? I don't usually take a lot of photos, I record much more, so i have this dilemma.

    My AX-33 (basically the same cam) just broke after 2 years - the camera has this shitty USB cable sticking out of the side of the cam that plugs into the handrest while not in use in the computer. The thing gets used and moved back and forth so often (as you will use it) that the cable plastic has weathered and torn, and the wires inside are sticking out/frayed/broken (at the part where it attaches to the camera). I hope for Sony's next range of camcorders in this style they remove and replace this USB connection style completely so that, either it is an ultra-tough cable, or there is no cable at all but perhaps a port instead.
    How does the AX43 connect to PC? Cable different?
    I use the viewfinder a LOT on the AX-33, especially on sunny days (you can't see the image on the flip-out LCD screen in birght sun)

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just tested the AX33 with the adapter I'm using, and with Steadishot Off, Standard, and Active I don't see any dark corners. Here are the 2 adapters I bought:
      amzn.to/2Y2Q8eF ($12.71, I apparently paid $16) and amzn.to/3aGpv1y (Neewer, I paid $22 for it, but apparently it's not available anymore).
      The Neewer lens is a 0.35x fisheye, so I get a black circle around the image, and I have to zoom in, and still end up with dark corners occasionally.
      The lens I'm using without problems is 0.43x, and was sold by DSLRDEPOT (looks like they have it for $8 + $5 shipping).
      I might do a follow-up video on these 2 adapters, if there's interest.

    • @PaulTaylorsNerdRant

      @@JordanKeyes thanks for the reply, yeah the circles is what I get, so the one you don't get this one still fits your new ax43, strange that the update the one I have ax53 is called ax43, you would of thought it would of been AX33,AX43, the AX53 don't get these companies naming things in wrong order, you would think they would know what they are doing by now. But be good to see a follow up video man and see if the image is still nice and sharp, with it being such a cheap lens. I found this on my local amazon, sounds the same as yours only 72mm to fit my ax53 www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07TS2GVBQ/?coliid=I3LBAJGOYWZSVH&colid=ERJR3JJVZEOB&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

      On further examination, I saw a bit of dark corners with the 0.43x, with Standard Steadishot. Switched around between Active, Off, and Standard, and I'm having trouble getting it to have the dark corners again, but it's definitely possible. I think it depends on how close the face is the camera is tracking, and how fast you're moving it around.

      @@JordanKeyes yeah I thought you might, thats why I wanted more info which you have kindy provided. It seems its possible no matter what lens you put on it, I found that if you turn steady shot on, then you get the wider shot without the black corners but then thats a great feature for the camera turned off, and thats one of the reasons I have it for the smooth footage you can get from it. Seems if I really need the wider shot for vlogging I may need to sell this one and get the new one maybe

    Sony FDR-AX53 is not a 4K camcorder, only camera's with a combination 4K and min. 60 fps is usable as 4K camera.
    The Sony fdr-ax53 is just a nice HD camcorder.

    very small sensor, no nd filter, no picture profile - only sdr
    fro same price zv1 is much better, but less focal range and worse stabilization, but much larger sensor

      That's the dilemma I'm having - one of these things, the zv1 or an a6400. The advantage here is battery life and the fact it won't overheat.

      ZV1 is trash, just as the 6400, both are TRASH!
