  • The Cleveland Browns are moving away from Cleveland to build a $2.4 billion new Stadium in Brook Park. This ambitious plan involves building a new stadium and a new residential space around it.
The Browns' game-day performances, however, aren’t good at the moment, so are these plans for a new stadium a distraction to get all eyes on a bright future, or will this new stadium development actually open up a new successful era for the Cleveland Browns?

Simple solution I haven't seen anyone bring up since this whole project was announced. Why not bring an MLS team to Cleveland and have them play downtown. Would fill lost days from Browns moving to Brook Park. Would bring Super Bowl and NCAA basketball finals to Cleveland. Browns/Lerners happy, Benefits all of Cuyahoga and other nearby counties. benifits the sports fans, and music fans in the area, and keeps old stadium occupied with as many game days as Browns would have there. NE Ohio has always been a soccer stronghold. Put a quality team downtown and the fans would support it. If Columbus can support an MLS team, why can't Cleveland??? Just a thought!!! Anyone out there agree/disagree

Some added notes from a Clevelander.
-The current stadium building was extremely rushed which has caused major structural issues that would cost about the same amount of money to fix as building a new stadium.
-The team has been working with the city for 3-4 years to come to an agreement on a new stadium and updating the flats. Justin Bibb and the city have been playing hardball and are the reason the team's moving. Brookpark was the last option.

Technically of main reason that the proposed stadium may be recessed into the ground is due to Soil remediation as a cost savings as the soil must be removed as it is toxic/contaminated from the previous manufacturing (Ford) facilities that were there decades ago. Means they don't have to repack millions of cubic feet of soil they just incorporate the soil remediation into the construction.
Also the county isn't going to pay anything and we're not going to raise taxes anymore in this area it's not that due to economic hardship it's due to we have the highest tax rate in the state of Ohio already.
Let's win some seasons maybe even some playoffs and then maybe we'll worry about rebuilding a stadium after the team is rebuilt for the the 20 millionth time. Otherwise until then the Haslams can build it on their own.

The owner wants the local tax payers to pay for his latest passion project, a new shiny thing where he gets to keep all the revenue from parking, shopping, rents. He gets to keep up with the Joneses and the fans get to pay more for in taxes and tickets, how novel. They keep dangling the chance to host a Super Bowl or NCAA Final Four in front of the region like we should be giddy about it, but there are 10 other NFL stadiums that can host Super Bowls and another 5ish cities that can host it because they have better weather than Cleveland the list of venues capable of hosting Final Fours is even longer. Cleveland is the largest city in the region by some margin and the only one capable of contributing a financially significant portion to any project. Unless the other cities or surrounding counties, where most of the “fans” flee to after a game, want to ban together to form a stadium trust to help fund the construction project and earn a say in where this stadium or which billionaire owner will get the next taxpayer hand out, and decide things collectively. Better yet this billionaire owner (Ranked 130 richest in the US)should pay for it himself and without the financial opion of those pesky tax payers he can put up his shiny buildings wherever he pleases. Say it with me everyone “government shouldn’t pay for stadiums” and if they must the government should dictate way more than the amount of the check being handed over.

Again which is fine if he pays for the whole thing. It's ridiculous that most of these stadiums are public funded and then they jack the prices up on everything. It's already 60 dollars for decent parking where it's at now. If Ohio does end up funding it with tax money there needs to be stipulations and price caps on the games. 10 out of 32 NFL teams play in stadiums outside of the cities they represent, so I fail to see the point of that argument against their moving. Yes, the area surrounding the current stadium, as well as the city of Cleveland will be negatively impacted economically, but the economic benefit to the greater Cleveland area will certainly outweigh that. Add to that the events that a domed stadium allows, adequate parking, covenient access to the airport, etc. At 25 years old, this stadium is among the oldest third of NFL stadiums, and it lacks any historic significance. If this was the old Lakefront Stadium, I could understand the sentimental attachment. But this isn't the field that witnessed players like Jim Brown or Otto Graham achievements. This isn't the same as when Art Modell abandoned Cleveland. They're not planning on leaving the area; they're just moving down the road.

The Browns definitely need a new stadium no matter what. When the current stadium was being built many corners were cut to try to save money and it was built in an extreme rush to be ready for the 99 season. I've worked inside the stadium various times over the years and have seen how bad it is, especially when compared to other stadiums in the league. Personally I don't care if the new stadium is in downtown Cleveland or Brook Park as long as it's a dome I will be happy. I'm about 50 miles south in Canton and it takes about the same amount of time to get to either location. I wasn't a Browns fan growing up and I'm still not a big fan but do want to see them do good. I'm a lifelong Dolphins and Cardinals fan and will usually go to the games when they are in Cleveland but will only buy tickets in advance for September and October games. Anytime after that you don't know what the weather is going to be like. Could be a nice 50-60 degree day or there could be 3 feet of snow and 10to20 below zero. I can't speak for other people but sitting outside in those cold temps right on Lake Erie doesn't sound like a good time to me. After being to a couple of just slightly cold games I said never again without a dome.

And if you bring a super bowl here then all of those people that travel in, stay in hotels, use the airports, use the rapid, go downtown to shop and eat, all the events that are held the week of bringing in even more people and money. You can't be that naive to think that it wouldn't benefit the whole area. Right now you have a stadium that needs almost a billion in repairs for just 8 uses a year totalling maybe 5 hours per use. I'm not even a Cleveland fan and I can see the benefits to the area. At the end of the day your argument of 8 games is not enough to build a new stadium is invalid. Why did they build the stadium in the first place for 8 games? At least now Cleveland will have a facility that can be used year round driving revenue to the stadium and the surrounding areas.

I believe with the rise of Cleveland with all the new buildings and renovation.
