Big up RG & thank you for touching on this artiste/ real bad man .. but your timeline is a bit out.. Ranking Dread was first introduced to England Easter 79 by Sir Coxsone in Northampton MFM club v Jah Shaka V Sir Christopher .. I should know as I was there Festus introduced him as a new artiste coming out of JA & the tune they played was Superstar to Sugar Minnot’s Babylon Pressure where RD made the claim that he went to school with Dennis Brown Sugar Minnot Errol Dunkly & Gregory Issacs which we didn’t know was true or make believe but that was his first major hit in the UK .. It was a little bit after this dance that he made the tune with Jimmy Riley Love & Devotion which I saw him perform for the very first time at a concert in Birmingham Al/s Errol Dunkly & Alton Ellis Regal Hall & RD tore up that concert especially when he big up Birmingham in that tune . 1980 African Girl with Sugar Minnot & Bandulu with Cornel Campbell 1981 General with Dennis Brown which were all big hits in English reggae charts .. It was 1982 when he released Fattie Boom which became a top twenty hit in the British pop charts getting played on rotation on BBC radio 1 .. it was a little bit after this the rumours started to circulate about the double life style he was living as what he was preaching on record was not the way he was actually living .. it’s a shame that he chose badness to fund his lifestyle as if he had chosen the music route he would be massive today because his style flow & lyrical content was way above everybody else at that time the only one one close to him was Jah Loves Brigadier Jerry who was ruling in Jamaica around the same time but where Brigadier made his name through tape & cassette worldwide RD was know in the UK Europe & America but he wasn’t known in Jamaica as a top D.j he was known under a different name for the badness he had done in JA which forced him to run to England … 🙏🏾

He was a bad man no doubt & at 1 point he had political asylum as he came over as a official bodyguard to the Jamaica president at the time, he was feared but there was a good few of the English bad boys especially sandringham road Lot who wasn’t having none of his nonsense the yardies and English lot did mix a lot but there was a few who had run ins with him 1 of them who had a long running feud with him stabbed him up & left him for dead he’s lucky his friends got to him in time , another time the same 1 threw a grenade at them but instead of rolling it along the ground he threw it in the air at them otherwise he would have died well before. It was a shame though as he was a talented singer.
