This is a very popular varnam among classical dancers, especially in the Mohiniattam and Bharatanatyam styles. While it is based on the ragam Karnataka Kapi, the last swaram in the charanam is set to ragamalika, linking back to Karnataka Kapi at the very end. It is set to Tisra Eka Talam. It describes the pangs of a love torn maiden pining for her Lord Madhava, as related by her friend or Sakhi.
