Very underrated; he had a great career. And, if memory serves, he had a full-time (non-desk) job during his athletic career, making it all the more impressive.
Always liked Elliott, had a brilliant career. What a generation of middle distance runners we had in the 80s. I too preferred Ovett but Elliott was my no.2... top bloke....
i think that 90% of folks don't realise how great peter elliott was...treated by the press as the forgotten man....didn't have the backing of the big 3.....what a record he had
I remember Peter Elliott as being a brave, gritty talented runner from back in the day. He reminds me why I prefer Northerners as people over Londoners as they are mostly down to earth and straightforward to deal with , no BS. Im a Londoner by the way lol.
Peter Elliot beat Seb Coe in 1984 (1500m) but somehow was not selected for that event in the Olympics. Does anyone have a vid of his victory? A truly outstanding athlete and incredibly modest. This man ran 1.42. for 800m. Check how many other people have done this.
Great bloke and great athlete. He peaked just after Coe, Ovett and Cram were in decline though McKean, a contemporary (one year younger) was also world class. I too was born and bred near Rotherham and I too preferred the Cavalier Ovett over the local Roundhead, Coe.
Peter is a legend. Thank you for all the exciting races!! A gentleman

That’s correct he was a joiner by trade.

Superb. Thankyou for this presentation. Peter. What an amazing athlete. And a real gentleman.
I met Peter Elliott in Leeds in 1998 and he was an absolute gentleman.

Thank you for this Phil. It's really appreciated.

83 World and 88 Olympics he was 4th in the 800m, it was a cruel reward for two excellent races. Just hard luck
Elliott was great and only a 0.2secs from being Olympic Champ.
Bloody hell he's aged well, look at those broad square shoulders, looks like he's in his forties not sixties, what a legend!
This is a great interview. Maybe you could add hashtags and a jazzier title to increase viewers.
Ran with a pulled groin muscle in the 1988 Olympics.....still ran hard...real guts!clean unlike Coe
Coe was clean.........
