Thanks once again Bob. Would post more but reluctant because picture quality is not as good. I now curse transferring my original footage to copies to save money buying new tapes!
The quality is fine Ray, the content is what makes them special, Like you the old footage was copied but I've uploaded mine, so come on let's have a look at some more of your excellent work...Best wishes...Bob
Fabulous video ! I never saw any footage of the dock street branch until now . I lived in Kings Parade the street at the end of the half a dozen or so storage sidings where wagons awaiting repair or scrapping were stored . Always a treat to see a class 37 crossing the Iron Gates crossing on Commercial road pulling either coal for the CCD or wagons for repair at the WRD or scrap for Cashmores . A very unglamorous place but one that oozed all things railway be it the architecture ( the handsome 4 road wagon repair shop still stands as you know ) the great variety of short wheelbase wagons including the six wheel tanks or the loose shunting manoeuvres that you don't see nowadays . The missing gates remind me of the time when a class 37 overran the catch points, derailing and ending up blocking Commercial Road . The footbridge gave us curious teenagers a great viewpoint of the recovery operations . I really do miss that place . Thanks for the memories though !
This harks back to the good old days of common sense and nill health and safety. Everyone has a good day. Its just sad to see the likes of Pennar Tunnel trackless and disused now.
Reminds me of the terrible journey to work I had back then. To pass the Iron Gates and cross the Levels of Mendalgief.
Absolutely stunning Ray, another gem from your archives, and I look forward to seeing more...Regards....Bob

I was actually on that. Only 10 years old back then.
1:50 the alarms still sound the same as today! The barrier Mechanisms looked nice, like the rest of the world's!
7:15 what's that WM logo for?
As I remember a three car set had to be brought in from the West Midlands area due to stock shortage locally, hence the WM logo.

Would you happen to have any footage from the Caerwent Cannonball 1980 tour of the Eastern Valley?
