Great video. Glad to see you get back to basics and keep the rust knocked off 😁. Don't let that crane spoil you to much lol. Oh and Grandpa is cool. Have a great day.
I never fail to learn something from a video of yours and this was no exception. I can see where I might use the "not a monkey fist" trick from time to time. As for doing a little extra, taking good care of your client by not mucking up the creek, that's craftmanship. And well, you're a craftsman, so you do that extra bit. Well done.
Concerning your TIP and the "woosies," we upset some folks a few weeks ago. They were commenting on the dangers of working at height, etc. and were not adding anything of value to the day or the task at hand. So I commented that if we fall we try to land on our heads so our neck breaks the fall, "you won't feel a thing." We laughed, they left, we finished without incident or accident. Stay awesome (and safe) my brothers!
I echo the comments of others when I say I'm sure you guys doing the work like the crane because its easier and less cleanup. But I enjoy the speed lining and the actual tree climbing more. I was in cable tv for 18 years and taught pole climbing for 12 of those years. Climbing straight no bark, no branches poles isn't as hard as what you're doing but I can relate to you and your crew. You are the reason I started watching youtube in the first place (didn't need to as I had free cable for all those years). Also, you are gifted when it comes to video and editing skills so they're fun to watch.
First time I climbed a pole I had a spur kick out on me! Today I was in a Silver Maple, and had a spur kick out on me! HA Ha ha! It wasn't nearly the adrenaline rush it was back in 1975! My dad was a lineman for PG&E in California, much respect for you, brother.
Dude that was awesome. I just got home from a long week of blue collar grind stuff, and watching this video made it all go away. I missed my calling 30 years ago because in 1988 I didn't know what an arborist was. Thanks TH-cam for feeding my regrets. LOL.... Thanks for showing everything August. You have a great team, who..... has a great leader. Have a good weekend.
Just wanted to say thanks for putting this stuff up. I'm new to all of this and the insight about why you do what you do is very helpful/interesting. Between you and Buckin I'm learning a lot. A neighbor recently had a big fir taken down and I watched the process with interest the entire time thinking to myself, "I'm not sure August would have done it that way..." I didn't say anything because I didn't want to overstep, but there is definitely a way to randomly drop a tree with huge pieces bouncing everywhere out of control vs a way with finesse and expertise. You and the MB crew are pros and it shows. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for info and awesome content! Stay safe up there!!! Oh, and Gramps immediately garnered a thumbs up before even seeing the rest of the vid!!!!
Old Ford's, love/hate relationship. Nice work August, love your calm sense of humor and quality of work you guys do. I really enjoy watching your channel over most of what's on TV.
Nice job on that monkeyfist knot we call them a basket knot but I liked the way you brought the coils together WITHOUT TWISTING THE ROPE! Very useful thanks for this trick
Nice brother. Nice. I can't stand watching guys on here over rig for content. I don't finish most videos that I start watching on you tube. But I watch every second of your content. It's real. You guys are real. This life we live is real. And there is nothing like them kids. That is one handsome young man you got. We don't truly realized how blessed we are to be fathers untill we watch them sleep. Thank you Sr. for your time.
Great video!!! What makes it for me......... is that you start the video out by telling us that there's root rot and after you climb to the top to set the rigging, we can see that your up pretty high. I can't help but think about the skill set and experience that you have, that allowed you to feel confident about the climb and the forces from the rigging that would be put on that tall tree. Years and years of experience!!!!! Love the video!
That's great you have your grandfather, Hunicke... ha, I think the humor gene is evident :) Yes, sir... thanks a lot for ALL the explanations... even of the "obvious" .... even if I already know it... it is still valuable help and "reinforcement" to see/hear things described by a professional of your evident caliber. 2:30 - "not really for love; it's just for elegance, maybe..." -- the conscientious professional
Great work August, love the transitions between clips. Like a few of the other comments on here I do like ur crane work but your speed line and rigging videos are what truly inspire me the most. Thanks man 🙏🏼.
Nothing stinks like a Cottonwood or Willow! We craned a big willow out of a lake today and I kept whispering under my breath “Hey TH-cam this is what I’m doing, And this is why am doing it like that.” Then I realized I’m not August and I don’t have any subscribers. Anyway makes the day go faster.
Refreshing to see somebody's still rockin' the DdRT like me. I run the Unicender instead of the zigzag, but guess my 43 yo brain just doesn't want to switch to SRT. And I sooooo respect your video editing - I've tried recording some of my work, but can't make it through the editing stages. Keep on!
Man!!!!! That looked way spooky just to be up that tree with the base like it was. Then,....to be jerking on it sideways with bigger limbs hitting the speedline....then to have the wind come up. You've got more guts/tolerance for the edge of the envelope than me. Great video!!!
Great work sir and all the team. Making it look easy. We call them Poplars. I have one on Monday over a car park and near a power line. Predictably weak wood but I like working with them. August Hunicke ah ok. I just put a blanket care factor on any poplar, willow etc. Like the speed lining. Saving for a skid steer, or crane, or platform lol
Had my first real taste of them cottonwoods up in Anchorage. Went up to work for my brother Paul, they are a different critter for sure! I like how you had the zip redirected with a strap for that big piece keeping the loads in order! Be Well August
awesome video.....I often try to go the extra mile to do the smarter things on behalf of my crew...unfortunately I don't have any heavy equipment yet so it's all man power for now....so there are going to be plenty of times I'm going to need them to get in the creek but my guys know me well enough by now to know im always looking out for their best interest so when I say it's got to be done the hard they trust me and if it takes me a bit longer so be it .....
Well, this might come off as an insult but I promise it isn't, more so ironic than anything; BR(buckin bill) and myself were having a conversation by way of phone call b'c we happen to share the same birthday month(April 7th BR - mine is today April 12th)and I was struggling with a tree job which I inquired upon his advice; we happened to get on the subject of youtube and whose videos or content have been most helpful as well as inspirational, and of course MR. Hunicke & the monkey beaver crew were in the conversation(you belong there),, and before hanging-up the phone BR say's "Dana - do you think August will ever climb another tree?" Referring to the recent purchase of the crane, we all know MR. Hunicke can climb an cut a tree, the true question is, 'does he really have too?' August has nothing to prove, an not only that he's got climbers on his crew who could use the crane experience and are absolutely capable of completing the task.\/ Now after watching this video I find it ironic that not even a week later you upload and publish content of you climbing an speed-lining this cottonwood, I guess BR an myself will be eating our own feet this evening.(literal lol)
Awesome video bro! Now I just feel like taking down a tree on my day off lol. The wind always decides to amp up at the end to remind us that even men with skills need prayer :D
Another though provoking video. I am sure the wind noise made the wind speed more dramatic, and thus more enjoyable to watch; however, it prompts a question. Do you have statutory limitations regarding working in high winds? What are they? In some videos you have cautioned us about no chainsaws after midday due to dryness and fire risk. Can you therefore include a one line meteorological and "stuff" data to add to the one in how the tree sits, leans, your proposed line of fall etc. brief in each video, e.g. ground level windspeed, top level windspeed, same direction? Twisting the tree? Rain forecast. Etc.? Still enjoying from locked down UK. Brain Rabbits
Thank you August for showing some of the basics. Sometimes we know a method for something, and seeing someone else do it can help us remember easier. A "monkey fist" is not something i've used to often, so on the occasions i need it, i have trouble remembering. I like the way you did that. Out of curiosity, would adding a weight on the end (anchor knot?) be a good way to add weight to it? i'm sure i will play with it at some point, i'm just curious what other peoples experience has been.
That ending.. still. Hahahaha. This one looked like some complicated fun man. Glad to see you up in a tree again. Raptor or not. By the way that thing looks awesome to use.
