    For me, adding a few drops of water into glen scotia 15 really make a huge difference. It will become much more fruitier and more vanilla while less woody bitterness and spiciness. Btw, also from Campbeltown, kilkerran 12 definitely worth checking out. Cheers!

    I wanted to add a Campbelltown scotch to my collection. Could not find Springbank for months! Live in CA. Found this at Totalwine and enjoying it. I get what you mean about the dryness in the finish. But glad to have it on my shelf!

      Wow, Springbank was hard to find in California? That's weird. I used Total Wine as one of my main stores and also K & L Wine when necessary. The Whisky Shop is a great Scottish shop in SF that sells a lot of whisky and many other items. I miss that place. Cheers!

      Springbank has great expressions, but I can't seem to find any of them in my typical shops - they're all out of stock. I have a Springbank 15 in my cabinet that only has a dram left in it. Maybe I need to do a quick episode about it. Cheers!

    Just finished off mine yesterday with friends. Oh my, it was an interesting/strange whiskey for me 😁
    For me in order of intensity it was spicy, kitchen salt, (rotten) seaweed, leather, seawater, fermented fruit, a bit of malty sweetness behind all those heavy notes. Believe it or not the last 1/3 of the bottle actually became a bit dry smoky on the front. It was a pleasant surprise.
    It is a good quality whiskey but for me just a bit all over the place tbh. For my taste it was similar to Bunnahabhain 12 but less balanced, more all over the place with flavors 😁 and ofc less fruity. Basically it tasted like a heavy storm on the beachside

    • @WhiskyRiffs
      @WhiskyRiffs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your notes, Grobee. I’m still not finding a clear path to enjoying this expression - it’s jumbled for me as well.
      I’ve had no whisky while in Italy the past two weeks (but plenty of great wine), so I’m curious how my palette reacts to Scotch again. Cheers!

    I bought my bottle for the same reason. It was the first time I'd ever seen a Campbeltown bottling. Everybody is raving about Springbank, which is not available in my area. My understanding is that the Glen Scotia 15 is aged in American Oak (Bourbon) barrels and then finished for a couple of months in oloroso barrels. I got vanilla galore and biscuit, so 'Nilla Wafers. Yes on the woody, oak flavoring. I like it. Most of my collection is either distinct sherry/port cask or peated. This would rate as one of my light, sweet whiskys. It fills in a slot in my collection.

    • @WhiskyRiffs
      @WhiskyRiffs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Dang it, Kelly! Now I want 'Nilla Wafers. But I'm in Assisi, Italy at the moment and I'm sure nothing like those are around. But I did get two different flavors of Jammie Dodgers today, so… winning? ;) Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

    The maturation is: most of the maturation period refill bourbon casks, then about a year in first fill bourbon and finally 4 to 6 weeks in ex sherry casks. Very nice whisky

    Great review, Kevin! I picked it up today for an upcoming tasting. (I was trying for a Springbank but to no avail in my NY area). I'm just curious where you got the 'no added color' from? I've read and saw another vid (GWhiskey) that claimed it was colored. The box says 'American oak'. Would they typically include 'charred' or 'xbourbon' if it was? I'm not sure new or non charred oak alone could render the deep amber. I'm probably completely off. Cheers!

    • @WhiskyRiffs
      @WhiskyRiffs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Phil. The Glen Scotia 15 page states, "Unpeated and matured in first fill bourbon and re-fill American Oak casks." It's a bit ambiguous, but I'm guessing that the "re-fill" ones are still bourbon casks. The Glen Scotia 25 is natural color, so I assumed the 15 was as well. GWhisky is probably right. Cheers!

    • @philc1884
      @philc1884 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WhiskyRiffs Thanks Kevin! I was hoping you were right. Good catch on 're-fill' casks (not included on label/box). I'm more a bourbon guy but from my light scotch research it's becoming a thing to point out 'all natural' and makes those who don't, suspect. I get it doesn't impact taste but the real color is part of the experience and story of every whiskey imo. I wonder in the next 5-10yrs we'll see an end to coloring? Cheers!

    • @WhiskyRiffs
      @WhiskyRiffs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@philc1884 The marketing people at the big corporations will always want to manage the color consistency. Bourbon tends to get dark so quickly (2-3 years), coloring isn't high on their priority list. But Scotch at 10+ years is a different story. Cheers!

    • @philc1884
      @philc1884 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WhiskyRiffs Perhaps, but I think because of social media and the amount of easily accessible information that marketing (and PR) are paying closer attention understanding that consumers know more about their products than ever and want transparency and additive free products. And yes bourbon doesn't need any help because of charred barrels. Nevertheless it is ilegal to use any coloring if you want to call it bourbon. Cheers and good luck in Europe! I hope you continue to make vids!

    I struggle with this bottle. It is undoubtedly very oaky, not sweet and actually tannicly drying like you say. I like it well enough if I let it rest decently with a little water after pouring. That being said, I can't really say I intend to replace my bottle because Victoriana is basically the same price, and its one of my all time favorites. I can't justify buying this over that.

    • @WhiskyRiffs
      @WhiskyRiffs  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a great way to describe the process of whisky selection. Even if I enjoy a bottle, do I like it more than other favorites at a similar price point? Most of us have limited budgets and this is a solid decision path that I've used often. Cheers!
