If Lucy were to do mainstream pop or rock songs, I can't imagine the status she'd command. Katy Perry or Miley Cyrus do not have Lucy's beauty nor voice. They're famous because of their mastery of modern technologies and showing skin. If you asked either of them to sing this song, just like Lucy did, I don't think they'll be able to.
I mean, Lucy's got everything. The voice, the looks.... If she had the proper guidance with regards to publicity, a great record company, a talented manager..... She'd definitely reach the stars.

The beautiful thing about music is that it’s completely subjective and accountable to only the individual listeners personal preferences, range of exposure, and even prejudices. To characterize the one as “not a patch on” the other is simply shallow criticism of one of two polar opposite renditions. In my opinion Grace Jones takes so many liberties from the original musical arrangement, it is hardly recognizable as the same song. Therefore Jones’ rendition is not comparable to any traditional treatment of the song or the intent of the composer -it is in a class all to itself and “in my opinion” being the best of one is certainly not as notable as being the best of many! I should have included in my comment “in my opinion” but for most commenters, that is understood -so Jones’s version is best for you and Lucy’s is best for me. All the best!

Her voice and her emotional facial expressions really add to the drama of her performance.
