For anyone wondering about selecting notes in an alternating fashion (to edit for accents for instance), there are scripts for this. "js_Select and deselect MIDI notes by step pattern.lua" is one. (Available in ReaPack or separately from Julian Sader's link on the Reaper forums.)
Wow! This is SO useful! I wish I’d found this video earlier, it would have saved me so much time. I really must devote a few days to watching all of Kenny’s videos! I wonder how many there are
If one wants to keep them separate, how do you render the tracks separately? But still keep the same midi subtleties (performance), like hi=hats opening and closing etc...
Thank you Kenny for being a giver in this life. It feels good to share and even better to learn.BTW, know of any T- shirts or caps with the Reaper logo on it?
2 questions! How do you select every note on a key? It doesn't work for me. Also I can't stack items the same way as in the video, they just overlap each other. What am I doing wrong?
This is super helpful! Thank you! I have a suggestion I hope it's ok to post here. It's not midi related. It has to do with instruments masking other instruments. This has become so frustrating because it's just "One" note in a guitar solo track! If the rhythm and lead guitar tracks are in solo, you can hear the note clearly! It's a slide down on the low E string into the first note of the solo. However, when I add the drum or bass track back in, it's gone! I would love to see how you would approach this to find the right frequencies to cut and boost. Thanks again for your time.
When I do this, it doesn't create new tracks. It puts a little mute item icon at the top of the item, but otherwise I can't tell anything has happened. It lets me undo it, but nothing happens except that mute icon disappears.
This is amazing, the issue when you render those exploded tracks to audio you don't get anything because it's sending to the VST track, there has to be a VST on each exploded track I believe for it to render the audio. I could be wrong, would love to find an easier way to do this.
This is amazing. Is there a quick way to explode all the notes, and have each track sent to a its own audio track for mixing? Or is that something you have to do manually by adding tracks, outputs from kontakt, and route them all accordingly? I know you can right-click on the FX and create 16 Midi/Audio tracks- would that work in this situation? I supposed you could explode the original MIDI, then add the midi and audio tracks (right-click style), then just move the exploded items to appropriate tracks... Thanks again for all your help!
A joy to view and listen as usual. Would you consider helping out further with midi. Triplets in 4:4 are immensely time consuming? I’m sure many others struggle too. Very many thanks.
In the last stage, I drag all the tracks back to the original track, but they won't glue... only one of the tracks, say the kick, or snare will play and I can see no midi evidence of the other drums. Help!!
I seemed to have found the solution on a cockos forum.... in Project settings Project settings -> Advanced -> I've changed it to "Item mix behaviour" and now all seems well.
There's no built in shortcut for that but you can define your own custom action in Actions/Action List. You'll need to chain the following actions together... Item: Explode MIDI note rows (pitch) to new items SWS: Select children of selected folder track(s) Track: Freeze to stereo (render pre-fader, save/remove items and online FX) Note you'll need the SWS expansion pack installing to get the middle action and you'll probably want to set a shortcut key or button if you're going to be doing it a lot.

This is useful. Thanks
One question : after explose item, track is just a midi signal. How put fx on each track please
If I were able to give you multiple 'thumbs up' for this, I would. Hot damn this is useful. Thanks so much

Compliments for this great job by Kenny Gioia. I advise other software companies to make this quality tutorials.
I have been going thru your videos and finding great gems! Thank you so much for making these! Making things happen that I didn't know I need! WOW
You´ve made my transition to Reaper so much easier and learning news tricks along the way.

Gaaaah!! So useful!! Just kinda shows how much I've still got to learn! Thank you!!!
Took me about 2 hours to find this. And it's going to save me hundreds of hours. Your are a legend !
This is very easy for editing drum velocities, thanks so much.

Wow that's magic!!!
Thumbs up for Reaper.
Thumbs up for Kenny Joia.
Is there an easy way to turn all of these to WAV files after splitting them?

when i place a effect on a track it stops the midi from playing

Thanks a bunch Kenny.
Cool feature, I'm starting to love reaper.

Saved my a bunch of clicks right there. Kenny for prez.
Can you freeze each track to audio after you explode them?

Can someone tell me why my midi view doesn’t show velocity at bottom?
Iain Murdoch Thank you. I will give it a try this evening.
Sometimes you have to pull it up to see the display
Amazing thanks
I find that using midi filter is better in this situation.
I dont understand why reaper is so cheap, yet it so powerful
Because there are only two employees, the developers. And one of them is already a multimillionnaire, so he doesn't care too much about earning money.
InXLsisDeo Really? Didn't know about that..
I love you
