    We have had this hitch for nearly 10 years and it has never failed nor have had any issues with hitting the cab of the truck. Of course you do loose your truck bed but the safety is worth it.

    Pulled our 33' 5th wheel for 18 years and tens of thousands of miles with Pullrite Superglide hitch on our F250 shortbed Ford and never an issue. As mentioned in comments, a couple times we had to unhitch at an angle and had to raise up and detach the hitch head but minor issue. Our Pullrite was the first one the dealer had sold (because I requested it), and after installing it and seeing how well it work they started stocking them.

    Our first Superglide required white lithium grease or slipplate graphite lube on the rails which was kind of messy. When we upgraded to new version it was nice to just apply the WD40 because as he indicated they added some plastic wear bars to eliminate the need for grease.

    We had a tiny Bigfoot 5th wheel that weighed about 4,000 pounds dry. We towed with a long bed Dodge and had universal rails. The Anderson ultimate hitch was perfect! It was so easy to take out of the bed so we had full access when not towing. And it was easier to hook up than our travel trailer - their funnel and locking system is genius!

  • @stephenheineke5568
    @stephenheineke5568 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    One thing that might help with the "smooth continuous motion" when hitching, is to put the truck in low range. When you put the truck in reverse, it should start moving backwards without touching the accelerator. I do that when driving onto my Anderson levelers with my travel trailer and Chevy 3500. Never need to use the accelerator.

  • @jaccole
    @jaccole 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great video. We have this hitch. Like it, but it is finicky. Have to line up just right and at the right height so king pin will slide in annd lock. Also slides backing up, so requires practice to make the changes in steering. The first week we had it we didn’t do it quite right and broke the release pin (or it may have been broken already due to a bad weld). We got it fixed after having to leave our 5th wheel at the campground (close to home) and towed home by our RV sales department. Wrote to Pullrite and they mailed us an extra release pin (not sure that’s the correct name). You looked a little too high on your 1st hitching when trying to connect. We were instructed that the catch plate should just be touching the angled hitch ramp before backing up. Can’t wait to add a Morryde to our set-up.

    Ive always had an 8’ bed. Came over to look at other options. I still dont think I will be going to a short bed but the hitch is definitely interesting. Great presentation. Currently I’m a Curt Q20 user. I went and tried out the goosebox thing for a few thousand miles because my new trailer came with it and I went back to the fifth wheel.

    So while I'm confident I would never be in a position to tow a 5th wheel with a short bed truck, I really appreciate all the info shared in this video!
    I do take pause with one topic and that is using WD40 in the manner Nick is recommending. As he stated, he recommends it as a lubricant to keep the assembly from failing prematurely. As WD40 is a wet formula, it will collect an inordinate amount of dirt; look at 24:30 as the example.
    IMHO, all that dirt attracted to the WD40 IS what will prematurely cause accelerated wear of the moving components. This why is seems Pullrite may recommend a daily application of WD40, as to clean the rails before travel. At a minimum I would wipe that excessive dirt off the rails before I traveled.
    For sure, I would lean toward something like Tri-Flow Lube. It goes on with a wet carrier to get in the nooks and crannies, but after a while, the wet dries up, leaving the lubricating film behind. This product would ultimately attract a whole lot less dirt than what we see in your video.
    Be safe and enjoy the ride!

    I have a short bed and was so worried about hitting my truck. I pull gooseneck trailers all the time. No experience with 5th wheels. It was long before i realized I'd never hit my trunk. Since you never turn tight enough. I sold my slider BW and got a Gen-Y gooseneck. Any looks like you all got a top-notch hitch.

    We have the same setup, for the same reasons. We were in a collision going over a mountain pass, while towing. Our trailer brakes had failed due to an unknown cut in a hydraulic line at the time. When we collided, our truck had to take all the impact - and the hitch, which did not break and took the impact, stopping the trailer. For that reason alone, it's the only hitch I will use. They are heavy, expensive, and a bit of a beast, but so worth it.

    when I bought my used 33oock sundance fifthwheel I used my my aunt's steel single point connection anderson ultimate fifthwheel hitch so it doesn't have the rails in the bed I can all most do 88 degree turn in a 2017 3500 ram cummins diesel megacab short bed srw Laramie longhorn. yes I don't like having to lift it up so high to get off the hitch and it doesn't help with 20 inch wheels on the truck. I would agree that if I was traveling like you do I would buy pullrite superglide fifthwheel hitch

    My dream RV I saw in a parking lot was a 20' class A (parked in a regular parking space) with 3 slides. Obviously custom never seen anything like it.
    I'd pair that with a travel trailer towed behind it for extra space, but that I can drop somewhere if I need it.
    I think.
    I love the "all in one" nature of my Sprinter as a solo traveler. Everything I have is always with me.

    there are so many that buy a truck then buying a trailer is an after thought and some wind up not being able to tow the trailer they want because of clearances and hitch wieghts...buy the right truck to do the job folks. My friend bought a 1/2 ton with a 5.5 box then had to trade up to pull a 5th wheel. I have even heard of people with a 6.5 box haveing clearance issues with a 5th wheel!

    Ours is a Demco brand but the auto sliding feature on both brands is amazing. But with both of these units you have to be straight to hook up and disconnect. So if you pull into a curved camping spot like in many parks you’re stuck.

    Don't have a fifth wheel and pretty sure I never will but still found the video very interesting. 1050 foot pounds of torque is so impressive. I remember when I pulled my 318 engine out of my truck and replaced it with a 440 to pull my 7,000 pound boat. Way more torque and HP but that had nothing like the torque you now have. By the way that truck never came with a 440 so was an interesting install. Took the motor out of an old Imperial wagon. Just can Aaron is a car guy I also had a different boat (41 foot) with 427's and took them out and installed 3116 Cat Diesels. Another interesting swap. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ME LOL.

    I’m not sure that you mentioned it but the sliding hitch is necessary when you have a short bed truck AND a standard front overhang of your fifth wheel (like the Grand Design Series). We have a similar F350 short bed and we use a Reese Goosebox hitch and have no trouble turning our truck 90 degrees. That’s because we have an Outdoors RV fifth wheel that has a short overhang that is tapered at the sides of the front cap. We love our Goosebox as we have full use of our truck bed once we unhitch. There are many of us that don’t want to have to deal with trying to remove a heavy hitch whenever we want to use our truck bed.

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes lots of variables! I did mention that it will depend on everyones individual setup of 5th wheel and truck combo. Lots of variables and you don't 100% know until you actually try it yourself. Your ORV is also a 96'' in wide fifth wheel and our Alliance (and GD) have the widebody 101". Which also comes into play with the front cap design, offset balls, truck manufacture, etc. Glad to hear you're liking the Goosebox.😊 👍

    We personally use the Anderson on our 40' 5th wheel. And I love it for many reasons. And I know everyone thinks there gear is the best lol, but I have to say when you talk about failures, every hitch has them. If you look up "Pullrite Superglide Hitch failures" there is also many posts on the internet and youtube vids showing failures for that hitch also. Just try a search. Too many moving parts in my opinion. I just rather to have a hitch that isnt moving around. But good luck with it, im sure its as good as any of them. None are perfect.

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes for sure! Anything can have problems or failure. Most likely due to improper installation, maintenance, or some sort of improper use. Maybe even just defects in the build. I really liked the Andersen (simple, lightweight, etc)... but again it all came back to guarantee we would not have clearance issues. But it was a really overwhelming struggle to research all the options out there! 👍

    It's still amazing how long the stabilizers are on some of these 5th wheels. I see the same thing on Grand Designs and I would be crazy nervous that one of those would sheer off if you got off the road that isn't flat. This slider does seem to make things a lot easier for sure.

  • @allan6021

    Aaron, one option you didn’t mention is a Reese Sidewinder pin box. It moves the turning point back 22” which should be plenty to prevent the trailer overhang from contacting the truck cab. Were you aware of that pin box and if so did you consider it? It allows you to use a smaller, regular hitch.

      I use the 20K Reese Sidewinder pin box with a Reese 20K Titan hitch in the bed of my Ram 3500 SRW short bed truck. I pull a 39 foot Montana 5th wheel and have had no problems. The Sidewinder uses a wedge block as well which at times can be tough to uncouple. A couple slight movements with the auto leveling and it releases nicely. The hitch saved some weight with a smaller footprint in the truck bed.

    We ordered a 2024 F250 Super Duty Lariat with the Tremor Package and the HO 6.7 Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel. We will be towing a 13,000lb Forest River Sabre 38DBQ. Why did you decide on an F350?

    • @ThomasAlanRoss
      @ThomasAlanRoss 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You need to check your available payload numbers. The diesel engine is much heavier than a gas engine and so your remaining payload on an F-250 may not be enough to support the pin weight + hitch weight + passengers + anything else you load into the truck. Hence the need for the higher payload and max rear axle weight of the 350. The limiting factor with towing a 5th wheel is always the max payload.

    • @IreneIronTravels

      No, you can only very a 10° angle. But if you had to you could pull the pin on the head and just disconnect with the head attached to the 5th wheel. So you could do a 90° in this situation.
      I really thought the hitch/unhitch from any angle was going to be a big deal for us, but in reality it hasn't been a situation for us...ever. We are always in a straight line while parking and that way we can exit safely as well. Campsites, boondocking... everywhere so far.

    • @ttman5069
      @ttman5069 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, but you cannot do it the normal hook up and disconnect method because the hitch head turns, as it slides and does not keep the king pin slot pointed straight back, so its a bit more complicated, and really not very practical for this hitch, or any other one. While you can get into an unplanned 90 degree turn due to traffic obstructions, etc. while driving most campground spots will give you enough space to have the truck and trailer at 45 degrees at the most.
      To disconnect at angles, you have to pull the two pins on each side of the hitch head, and leave it attached to the pin box., raise the 5th wheel higher than normal until it clears, and pull out. Hooking up is a lot more tricky because you have to get things lined up to lower the hitch head back into place and reinsert the two pins that hold it in place.

    Good video 😊 just saying that style hitch been around for twenty years only because people did not buy a long bed truck most rv'er have long bed truck that style of hitch will not work long bed truck the hitch sits over rear axles for better weight distribution also dully are better but more expensive 🤔😀

    • @pif0514
      @pif0514 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      On a short bed truck the hitch is still over the rear axle. However, you loose the space between cab and rear axle; therefore, the need for a slider hitch (slider hitch would still work on a long bed truck, but unnecessary)

    Great video! I've recently upgraded from my Ram 1500 to a 2500 and looking at getting a 5th wheel. I've seen reviews on the pullrite and have a question after watching your video. • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! I think because the Ram puck spread is so much further apart than ford/gm that it makes the hitch physically bigger giving it the larger capacity. It does make the hitch about 100 more lbs than the 16k.
      You can use the 16k ISR with a oe ram adaptor piece but it’s a little taller than the puck version and adds more attachment points.

      IMO, a F-150 is NOT suitable for towing a fifth wheel trailer unless you get the F-150 with their heavy duty payload option. They may have the power to pull it but they won’t have the weight carrying capacity needed. A 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickups are not offered with that short of a bed length and have significantly more payload capacity.
