I made this today for the second time and it turned out really yummy. I noticed that I should have left it in the pan until all the way cool so it could set up. It was kind of runny warm from the oven. But later it was set at room temperature and was creamy as described. I would not serve it warm again. I used granny Smith apples and gluten free flour. I think just a few more grams of flour would be perfect. I added double the sugar the second time and a quarter teaspoon salt. The lemon rind is delicious in there. I also added a smidgen of cinnamon. Really good!

Use a small spring pan! I made this today, prepped a “normal” 10 inch or so pan and it was way too big. I wound up using like a 7” pie pan, transferred the parchment over,, buttered the sides and it was still rather shallow. And I used 6 apples. It’s an AMAZING desert!

Four apples instead of five makes a significant difference in cake size, but not cooking time. My use of 1 TBS almond flour went just fine, no noticible change in cake consistency. Going to continue using the almond flour (just one tablespoon substitute in recipe) but going back to five apples. Also, shaved apple cooked much better than sliced apple - I was using Green Dragon apples. Wonderful cake. My son, who has a degenerative nerve disease and trouble handling cuttlery, loves this cake because it can be cut into bite-sized bits and eaten with fingers. Not to mention, it's beautiful, flavorful, and healthy. I eat my piece warm from the oven, my son eats all the rest cooled. It lasts one day! And I'm pleased about that because it is hard to keep weight on my son.

Absolutely wonderful recipe! It comes out looking like something in a French patisserie window especially I found if you sprinkle confectioner's sugar on top when it is still warm giving a golden glaze. The taste is fabulous and creamy. As per one of the comments here I added spices and upped the sugar a bit but that would depend on the type of apples used. Can't wait to make it again. Thank you!
THANK YOU! I just made this today with my mom and it was soooo good! next time I'll use more apples. We used a combination of sweet and more sour apples. It was perfect, not too sweet but tangy and delicious. It's such a simple recipe. I feel like I'll be making this over and over, every time I have guests over, or anytime I feel like making a treat for myself :P
There is obviously more than one way to cut a apple. The chef has done this a few times I think. And it looks like he likes to do it with the flat side up. Looks great the way the chef prepared it!
Really nice flavour, low on calories, easy & quick to make with no mess. Well, I only added cinnamon since apples go very well with this kind of spices and when I repeated the recipe for the 2nd time I only made it with 1EGG instead of 2.
Wonderful recipe! I used 3 tablespoons of sugar and the zest of half a lemon, as well as lemon juice on the apple slices. It was a bit too sweet and lemony for me but everyone else liked it a lot... The next time I make it I will add less sugar and leave out the lemon zest.

@@astat1 Yes, I did! I made it yesterday, in spite of some snafu. I initially placed the mixture in a springform pan, that promptly started leaking :-( So I quickly switched to a larger but shallower pan. It turned out really good, albeit a bit flat. Next time I will use a deeper cake pan, not a springform one. I have also shared the recipe with my sister. So simple, yet so tasty.

I just tried this recipe, very pleased with the results. I added slivered almonds on top. I liked the way you sliced the apples. I use the potato peeler to zest citrus fruits, it only removes coloured part of skin not white. Cut the peels with scissors and store in the freezer.

@@ThePrudentQueen I'm not proficient at gluten free without a recipe, so started making small changes first. I'd say you'd be fine with all almond flour - that's what I'm doing next. Also, there is a great jam thumbprint cookie that is gluten free on TH-cam at Tutti a Tavola. They taste like macaroons but no coconut! (my son hates coconut, I love macaroons). Score!

Cinnamon is a must for me, plus a clove or two.

In edition to cinnamon, you can add a judicious pinch of freshly ground cardamom.

Absolutely wonderful recipe! It comes out looking like something in a French patisserie window especially I found if you sprinkle confectioner's sugar on top when it is still warm giving a golden glaze. The taste is fabulous and creamy. As per one of the comments here I added spices and upped the sugar a bit but that would depend on the type of apples used. Can't wait to make it again. Thank you!

THANK YOU! I just made this today with my mom and it was soooo good! next time I'll use more apples. We used a combination of sweet and more sour apples. It was perfect, not too sweet but tangy and delicious. It's such a simple recipe. I feel like I'll be making this over and over, every time I have guests over, or anytime I feel like making a treat for myself :P

There is obviously more than one way to cut a apple. The chef has done this a few times I think. And it looks like he likes to do it with the flat side up. Looks great the way the chef prepared it!

Really nice flavour, low on calories, easy & quick to make with no mess. Well, I only added cinnamon since apples go very well with this kind of spices and when I repeated the recipe for the 2nd time I only made it with 1EGG instead of 2.
Looks great. I think I would add some cinnamon and nutmeg to the mixture.
It will be even more useful with cinnamon and walnuts, but maybe not everyone likes cinnamon, so I make a classic cake.

Wonderful recipe! I used 3 tablespoons of sugar and the zest of half a lemon, as well as lemon juice on the apple slices. It was a bit too sweet and lemony for me but everyone else liked it a lot... The next time I make it I will add less sugar and leave out the lemon zest.

@@astat1 Yes, I did! I made it yesterday, in spite of some snafu. I initially placed the mixture in a springform pan, that promptly started leaking :-( So I quickly switched to a larger but shallower pan. It turned out really good, albeit a bit flat. Next time I will use a deeper cake pan, not a springform one. I have also shared the recipe with my sister. So simple, yet so tasty.
@@kajalsingh9554 I made it too, yesterday, partially inspired by your comment. It is very good indeed. Not too sweet, just as I like. I'm going to make it regularly. Next time I'll add some cinnamon and a few raisins 😊

I just tried this recipe, very pleased with the results. I added slivered almonds on top. I liked the way you sliced the apples. I use the potato peeler to zest citrus fruits, it only removes coloured part of skin not white. Cut the peels with scissors and store in the freezer.
Used larger pan, it came out thin, 1/3 the hight

@@ThePrudentQueen I'm not proficient at gluten free without a recipe, so started making small changes first. I'd say you'd be fine with all almond flour - that's what I'm doing next. Also, there is a great jam thumbprint cookie that is gluten free on TH-cam at Tutti a Tavola. They taste like macaroons but no coconut! (my son hates coconut, I love macaroons). Score!

I made it too and it turned out so delicious! I'm definitely going to make it again. It's better when served cool, because otherwise it's a bit runny and feels as if it's not completely cooked.

To soften apples before adding, zap them in a microwave on high for 3 minutes. It kills the enzyme that keep the apples firm while baking.
