The power of this song is such, that when I was a kid I didn't understand a word of it, but I could follow the imagery, and felt a deep sense of sadness. Now, I can't listen to it without crying.
Ive been lucky to go to Disney Orlando twice .. the first time i went i walked with my young sons to Cinderella s castle , touched it and cried ... for me it was so moving being there with my boys ...we had a Magical 2 weeks each time we went ...i hope that one day i can go back there before i leave the earth forever...
RIP Richard Sherman the composer of movies like Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, The Aristocats, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, The Sword in the Stone and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
Thank you Walt Disney for sharing your entire vision with the world and for having the extremely best musical team in the business and they are both named Sherman. Rest in peace Walt Disney. Your creativeness, vision etc. is very much missed.😢😢❤❤

Mary Poppins is probably my favorite Disney movie of all time. I grew up watching the movie over and over as a kid, and a little while back I got to play a chimney sweep in a community theater production of Mary Poppins. Rest in peace, Mr Sherman. The music you and Robert wrote has touched kids and adults. I know you and your brother are writing music again.

Richard Sherman is a class act and, in everyone’s opinion I’ve heard, a gargantuan talent. In the words of the songwriters of the new Mary Poppins film, he and his brother were touched by God. I’m not religious but I think they’re right.
Rest in Peace Richard M. Sherman (6/12/1928 - 5/25/2024) 🍞 🕊️ 🪙 💼 Now you’re finally reunited with your brother & music partner, Robert and your friend, Walt Disney.
Songs that defined my childhood from the scores of Mary Poppins to Jungle Book to legendary rides like It’s a Small World The Tiki Room and so many others. What a giant and what a beautiful soul. We will continue to feed the birds in your honor.
Grateful to finally see this. I met Richard in 2014 at a 50th anniversary for the Tiki Room. He told the story about this moment and the bird landing on the piano. I'm sorry we didn't get to see it, I imagine it was out of the frame but the fact we could her one chirping means it was somewhere within range of his microphone. I think Richard said it was on the other side of the piano itself.
I was there that day, right up front, surrounded by Cast Members watching the show. The bird never landed on the piano. Toward the end of the song, the lone bird (FYI - a bird release was not a part of the show that day) flew up from around the Frontierland area, then stopped and hovered directly over the piano for a few seconds as Richard Sherman played. Although the video doesn't pick it up, the moment the bird hovered, there was a collective audible gasp from the audience that Richard hears and responds to at the 10:33 mark, where you can hear a little clapping too. A-freaking-mazing!
Where would this world be without the Sherman Brothers. I would sing "Colonel Hathi's March (The Elephant Song)" to my kids when they were little crusters.
My kids LOVED that song and I'd do the same as I'd chase them up to bed, "HUP! 2-3-4 Pick it up! 2-3-4". Ahhhh... good times. Then they have to go and grow up. ;-) :-D
I try not to get teary eyed and emotional I'm left speechless one of walt Disney favorite songs ever by the Sherman brothers and julie Andrew did a excellent writing and composing this masterpiece of music to the actors and actresses who passed away my thoughts are with your family you may be gone but not forgotten still going strong keep on singing job well done you should be proud much love and respect and appreciation thanks just classic music at its very best right ?!!! Joe
Thank you for posting this video. I was there standing in front of what is now Jolly Holiday Bakery. It truly was an emotional beautiful experience. One of my top favorite moments in my Disneyland career.
This song makes me want to cry. I learned the spanish version, because I'm a spanish speaker. But no matter which the language it is, it still touches my heart. Tuppence a bag 💕
Richard mentioned this in a behind the scenes of Mary Poppins. He was told that just toward the end, out of the clear blue sky. There was one bird who flew down over where Richard was playing and off again into the clouds. He said it was Walt Disney saying thanks.
UPDATE: 2023 ... here's a beautiful version of the song he did in front of the Castle in 2015 for Disneyland's 60th :-) th-cam.com/video/e5OCH90JXJY/w-d-xo.html
I love Mary poppins It is a amazing film I think of My Teacher mr. Rank and how the kids were mean to him I was the only one who cared and I also think my Grandma Jan is similar to Mary Poppins she and I draw and paint together and I think of how imaginative she is and when my Grandma had a bakersists in her Leg and when Gradpa got sick with a enmounia It was difficult to watch
You can't see it on this shot. It flies below the camera shot. You can see it in the Making Of Marry Poppins documentary at the end when Richard Sherman talks about it.
This movie is a classic Disney or not it has all the quality that made it a classic. To have remade that movie was a insult to Mr Disney and to the original cast. There was a lot of hard and ground breaking work done on this movie and in the end it all paid off for all of the people involved in the movie and for Mr Disney. And I don't mean just money wise either.
The power of this song is such, that when I was a kid I didn't understand a word of it, but I could follow the imagery, and felt a deep sense of sadness. Now, I can't listen to it without crying.
I was working as a tour guide when this took place, and stood about 10' to the right of this camera for the entire performance.
I am envious
The love this man has for his boss is immeasurable. Walt still lives in him...

A song about how it does not take much to give and be kind, even when you have "tuppence". A beautiful piece. 🧡
