Basically, if you had a long enough stretch of land (it'd probably make a computer explode, let's be honest), you'd probably be able to reach unimaginable speeds as long as the game engine can handle it
It's just like the Mario 64 BLJ, as long as you aim yourself right, you can reach literally infinite speed (though 64 crashes once you reach "infinity")
I remember in one of the Sonic.exe games, in a red ring level type thing, Sonic.exe is trying to hunt down tails, but runs instead of flying, and let me tell you… from what I remember from that, if he were to actually use his legs in the other games, everyone! Wouldn’t! Last a second!
