Years ago when I was in art school, I served Henry Rollins a series of espressos with ice water in a Toronto restaurant. He was so low key and polite that I wasn't sure it was him until I saw his tattoos. It's been said that you can tell a lot about someone by how they treat a server. He has been an inspiration to me ever since. Whatever he turns his hands to will always be engaging.

I just appreciate how real and honest Rollins is. I dont think many people could do this without making it super awkward. Rollins rolls with it with style.
The body painting was really the best. Wonderfully and strangely, they became more expressive with color when they were painting each other. The intimacy had a wonderful effect.

Capgungoesbang read this before I heard him say it, didn't know what it meant, decided to wait until I got some context...still don't understand it haha. What is "warsh"?
Its wash, like "wash your clothes" or "wash the dishes," except some people add "r" in the middle. I don't know why. You usually hear it around the mid-atlantic and the south/southeast coast.
ey yo- I found this interesting...I'm from the southwest but my grandparents were from AZ/CA & they both had accents that would be indicative of another region. There was "warsh". There was "Sundee & Mondee". There was "that there"...as in "Give me that there warshcloth." :) They were born in the mid-late 30's - I wonder if that makes a difference? I read the NY accent of Woody Allen, Trump, & Bernie Sanders were all from more a different era, than a region per se. And they were all born in the same time frame.
I've been a fan of everything Henry Rollins for most of my life; gotta say, I would have driven to my artist and had his initials inked in immediately after that session ended.
It doesn't surprise me that George Carlin would like Henry Rollins. They have a similar worldview...pragmatic and slightly hateful but ultimately moral.
I actually had the pleasure of meeting Mr Rollins. . .he is absolutely glorious on stage. . .soooo shy up close. I made the international sign for "hug"
Evilash 138 it's neat to see how he has evolved over the years. I like that he's happier nowadays. Like he seems happier in general and it feels good because he's a real genuine guy.
Christopher Borelli I completely agree with you here he seems to be in a better place these days I remember seeing his spoken word in Columbus Ohio around 2007 I had the chance to meet him he was surprised when he asked if I wanted an autograph and I politely declined all I wanted was a chance to meet him and even though it was a ten minute conversation it was a one on one conversation with him he's a really humble down to earth guy and truly loves conversing with his fans
His voice was always rough. He has a great story about going to see Michael Bolton's throat doctor and being told that his vocals cords were the 2nd most damaged they'd ever seen(the doc wouldn't reveal who the worst was).
DonteKeys I remember hearing about that I had the album that story was on and it looks like it's all caught up to him but it still doesn't take away how cool he is plus I know it's because he's getting older which is effecting his vocals
I might genuinely love this. More interviews that are a mix of interesting anecdotes and improvised bullshit while painting each other please. Also, DID HE GET THE STRIPES TATTOOED ON OR NOT?!
It’s funny that I came across this video, and Henry mentioned the story about purchasing camera equipment. I was in line behind him at Samys Camera a long time back, in LA, when he and her were purchasing that equipment. I still have the image in my phone, he’s a very interesting and passionate guy for sure.
this is how to be gay without any penises involved I love it Henry is such an intelligent witty experience travelled man and the shirtless painter smart and funny to show together this was a stellar art cast
So I’m paused at 1:15. So far, Henry is painting a black box, which I assume is where he stores his rage and insanity. He’s painted it in the top right corner, out of the way, but letting us know that it’s still there. He may or may not reach into the box, whatever allows him to tastefully paint his portrait of the gentleman to his right. And now, let us resume...
does no one remember the joy of painting, that mans voice is like taking a bunch of xanax or valium or smoking pot all of which are good while watching the joy of painting
+klimtklavier yeah its a great show to mellow out to,i have never painted while watching him but im pretty sure everyone was high on something while watching that shit
This is actually really interesting - I guess that I shouldn't be surprised that Henry Rollins talking about anything for 30 min is good to watch, but the whole shirtless thing is just so goofily disarming and amazing. Henry looked at him like he was studying the detail of his face, then continued to fill in the box black. Lol
Santino Salinas 😂
Lol. Love it :))
its so weird how nice henry has gotten. imagine letting another man paint his chest in 1993
Ha ha! Henry would kick his ass!
I have arms collapsing by the laugh you gave me... and I thought watching this video was already the top hilarious watch!
