Ok, I'm writing a school text type of thing about swamps and how they form and this exact holy soundtrack in the background makes me feel like I'm some badass professor writing a report about some significant observations I've made.
@@sunsetbreaker1881 i love the second games soundtrack, but i prefer this one for the emotion. the second one mainly highlights being a badass for the sake of being a badass, while this soundtrack highlights the actual helplessness of being stranded on an alien planet.
This song is perfect for RoR's main menu. It perfectly encapsulates the mixed feelings of solitude, alien wonder, and a twinge of horror that the world always fills me with.
The Modern Shoe hello, saw that u were doing ftl vids (even though it was long ago) Hope you manage well with youtube and become active w/ vids again, farewell fellow footwear
Fun fact: every single song in the soundtrack has a name in some way related to rain or water. Even the seemingly random numbers one is actually Latitude/Longitude coords for the rainiest city on earth.
I feel like music in games is often severely under appreciated, RoR is a great game in its own right, but the soundtrack is just simply breathtaking. Amazing job!
I felt like revisiting this now, and i'm always blown away about how this whole soundtrack does such a fantastic job of establishing a sense of otherworldly beauty, melancholy, exploration, each environment - the music sets the tone for the game so magnificently. I've seen games with a hundred times the budget fail to come close to establishing a sense of place so well.
Everyone I've shown the game I've explained the core mechanics of, but by themselves they've all noticed the superb soundtrack. It's a monument to your ability and I'm glad it's displayed so well in these pieces.
You know, I really don't think the original Risk of Rain would've been so fondly remembered nowadays if it weren't for the OST accompanying it. It never ceases to amaze me how much a game's soundtrack can elevate the entire experience to the point where even some questionable design choices by today's standards are drowned out by the omnious alien ambiance set by the music. You're a talented guy Chris, but you didn't need me to tell you that.
Man, I suck at this game so much, but it will forever be probably the most fun game in my Steam library. Not to mention that I could listen to the soundtrack over and over forever.
Commando: Simply nods. Enforcer: Holds shotgun up, flashes lights and lowers the gun. Bandit: Thumps the ground with his rifle. Huntress: Shakes her head. HAN-D: Turns on. Miner: Pats pickaxe in hand. Engineer: Sparkles. Sniper: Points towards you, points up, points at you again before lowering hand. Acrid: Snaps and drools. Mercenary: Twirls saber. No matter who you pick, you're still going to die horribly.
MechWarrior894 Find the artifact of Command from the Hive Cluster, and use that to get the necessary items you need to get Chef (coincidentally, using Command makes getting Loader easy too, and he's another fun one).

Chris Christodoulou Hahaha, thank you for such a detailed response, listening to some demos for pieces of your DAW has been a trip! And yes this certainly helps pinpoint the degree in which I am lacking in the technology side in music. =P I once again have to compliment you on your ability to add great composition on top of your phenomenal sound. Its funny, I looked up music composition software, and got only standard notation, classical programs. When I looked up electronic music composition software, Google only found electronic music "production" software instead... It's so hard to find a middle ground, but this soundtrack was a great find. I am curious now, you said Pink Floyd was a big inspiration here (which is awesome), but what else? Gorillaz I imagine? Jeremy Soule?? I've recently found the band Shpongle brings the same level of composition and production as well. Any other good sounds you recommend I check out?

hey Chris, since you seem to be monitoring these comment, i wanted to ask, were you the one who made the HitItSon track, and if so will you ever upload it?
Chris Christodoulou yep that's the one! i found it while i was poking around the source files and was wondering why it wasn't in your playlist, thanks for the quick reply!
The in-game versions are actually trimmed to loop "in tempo" but not in a seamless/non-stop manner-there are still intros/endings to the pieces. As far as the album versions though I'm only worried about the pieces being as musical as possible. That said, if you want to make loops out of them, feel free :) Usually the tempos are pretty straight forward and with any audio editor (like Audacity) it's relatively simple to make loops. I've even put out the Engineer Edition of this album where there are separate elements for each piece and all tempi are noted in the filenames. :)
+Chris Christodoulou Thanks for your permission, I'm actually going to do that. I have a lot of music experience, so I don't think I'll need the Engineer Edition, but it would be cool to see all the elements anyhow. Do you have the files uploaded somewhere? I fear losing bit rate ripping from youtube
Not so sound like an asshole but both versions are available for full quality at bandcamp (with lots of extras including sheet music and actual 48KHz/24bit masters uploaded): chrischristodoulou.bandcamp.com/ I obviously cannot stop you from ripping them from youtube, but I've only uploaded them here so people can still have free access to it while the album is actually for sale-and it's the only way I make a living. The Engineer Edition is actually cheaper although technically you can put the tracks in a DAW and recreate the original mixes (to a degree, considering the mastering chain will be missing). I also suppose there is a torrent out there somewhere :)
+Chris Christodoulou No worries, I'll purchase them. For the record, though, I think they're worth more than €4 apiece. I'd pay €10 and wouldn't bat an eye
Thanks, I appreciate it :) Well, I still wanted to make the money barrier as short as possible for everyone! Since it's asking price or higher, you can still give me more if you want :P

I've never seen that done before. If I was into making remixes, I'd be wetting myself with joy right now. :))
hey Chris, since you seem to be monitoring these comment, i wanted to ask, were you the one who made the HitItSon track, and if so will you ever upload it?
Chris Christodoulou yep that's the one! i found it while i was poking around the source files and was wondering why it wasn't in your playlist, thanks for the quick reply!
Ever given any thought to making extended loops of your work? I'd love to be able to use them for our D20 Modern campaigns
Not so sound like an asshole but both versions are available for full quality at bandcamp (with lots of extras including sheet music and actual 48KHz/24bit masters uploaded): chrischristodoulou.bandcamp.com/
I obviously cannot stop you from ripping them from youtube, but I've only uploaded them here so people can still have free access to it while the album is actually for sale-and it's the only way I make a living.
I found the secrets on the final level. What is the song that plays on the radio when you get near it? The on with the 3 golems around it.
