    I've been searching the variuos GW sites looking for confirmation on what I'm experiencing on a 2022 GW Tour (manual) when driving driving from Fort Worth to Houston. Traded a DCT for a manual. You described it to a tee. I would have thought the wing would shift to each successive gear without hesitation or dead space prior to engegement. If you don't preload, thats exactly what you have. Greatly appreciate the insight as I was going to take it to my local dealer for a look see, and may still,,, again, thanks!

    You are correct about preloading the shifter. Also rev matching helps to. Smooth operation with the clutch can also help in shifting smoothly. Other bikes suffer from the clunky shifting not just the wings. Maybe the DCT bikes are the only ones that don’t have this issue. I’d be curious if that’s true.

    Hope all is well.. took your advise on the shinkos, what a smooth ride. Thank you! I felt the clonk. So I changed the rear gear oil 90 weight . Shifted smoother , way smoother.

    I had the same clunk with my suzuki intruder1800 from 1st to 2nd and the same trick works to get rid of the clunk when changing 👍👍

    Might be a little tougher with a heel/toe shifter, but I'll definitely give it a shot.

    Hi Mo
    My 1800 gets bad when I need an oil change. It still makes noise but not as bad. Thanks for the video.

    I have question I'd like to ask? I bought 88' gl1500 with front rear shifter. I'd like to replace back to stock? Best idea for finding stock gear shifter an foot pegs?

    Pre-loading the shift lever should be done with any and every manual shift motorcycle..dirt, enduro, steet...all of them. Its not just a better way, it's the right way.

    I'm an old fart and ride a 1500 I find shifting between 3000 and 3500 shifting quickly no klunk! Below 3000 so called short shifting you get it, so I try to alway get the rpms up above 3000 and don't be lazy!

      @seatime674 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup higher rpms less clunk

    I tried Honda synthetic oil. Seems to help my clunk. 05 Wing. Also, you like Hills? Go just south of you on Hillandale S. Past John Deere dealer. It will turn into Hipp Hollow rd. To Hochberger (just south of Eau Claire.) turn right. Dean’s Hill Road and end just south of Berrien Springs careful sometimes people miss and spray gravel in the curves.

    I just bought a 1500 and noticed the clunk right away. I seem to remember my old CB350 did the same thing but not as pronounced as the Goldwing, likely because it was a much smaller bike. Thanks for the tip. I will be "shifting" my shifting habits from now on.

    I've had a GL1800 for 6 years and never noticed an unusual clunk when I use the throttle and the clutch properly. I do run a 10w 40w full synthetic oil.

    I wonder about a shift brace for the 1500, would it help with the clunk? Regardless I think at some point I'll add one. That sloppy shifter shaft makes me a little nervous.

    • @daniellloyd2293
      @daniellloyd2293 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The brace did not help with the clunk on mine, but it did help with sifting overall. I no longer drop in neutral on 1st to 2nd shifts and the shaft seal no longer leaks and when I remember to preload the shifter, the clunk does go away. 1990 Gl1500 SE

    I have always upshifted without using my clutch. Just lift slightly off the throttle and shift. Quick shifters do this exact thing only a lot quicker than I can manually. Never have had any issues with any bike.

    Yes sir the vtx 1800 had the same clunk. I not saying this oil is better than others, but I use Amsoil and BG motorcycle additive. And it helps a lot on smoothness. With the preload or no preload if you RPM match it works for me too. But as many miles I had on the VTX and my first goldwing it has never hurt anything just a little clank sound. But the oil and additive helped 100%. And I get about a 1/2 mile more on mileage. I also run mobil 1 extended oil filters and with that little extra capacity on the filter I can use 4 quarts and the 6 Oz additive and it's perfect on oil level. But staying on the throttle and rpm match works great for me.

    Yes that “Goldwing Clunk” is super annoying! I thought it was just me that it bothered. I’m going to try preloading. I’ve also noticed if your very deliberate with your shifting, it’s not as bad but still there. Thanks

    Hi mo. Good tip there. I call it taking up the slack prior to committing a gear change.gearing down I find it helps to “blip” the throttle and gear down kinda early and keep some revs up……hi to all. 🇬🇧👍

    can you do the same thing with a heel toe shift

    • @adamcondon5115
      @adamcondon5115 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can, yes. Just put your heel on the lever and medium-load it while still on the throttle and hold that pressure on the lever as you close the throttle and pull in the clutch simultaneously.
