What The Street Thinks April 27th: Independence Day in Togo HovAfricaTv take walk on the street to ask the Togolese how they preparing there. special day, if you don't about the historic day. about Togolese independence here's a little gripe, we when down today on the street of Lome, we talk to a few s Togolese on the street, we ask them what they think about today's holiday, this will surprise, here the history about today.
The Togolese Republic was proclaimed on 27 April 1960. In the first presidential elections in 1961, Sylvanus Olympio became the first president, gaining 100% of the vote in elections boycotted by the opposition. On 9 April 1961, the Constitution of the Togolese Republic was adopted, according to which the supreme legislative body was the National Assembly of Togo. Hov Africa Tv
In December 1961, leaders of opposition parties were arrested because they were accused of the preparation of an anti-government conspiracy. A decree was issued on the dissolution of the opposition parties. Olympio tried to reduce dependence on France by establishing cooperation with the United States, the United Kingdom, and West Germany. He also rejected the efforts of French soldiers who were demobilized after the Algerian War and tried to get a position in the Togolese army. These factors eventually led to a military coup on 13 January 1963, during which he was assassinated by a group of soldiers under the direction of Sergeant Gnassingbé Eyadéma.[15] A state of emergency was declared in Togo, please help. clap to them,

Independence is locally known as 'Ablode'.
In listening to what people in street and markets are saying there is a clear and big gap between what is celebrated by the government and the perception people have about that Independence Day. People are more concerned with their daily conditions. And it can't be otherwise since a dictatorship is the very opposite of independence.
We are in Togo where the dictatorship has decided the Independence Day is no longer April 27th but January 13rd which was the day where Sylvanus Olympio has been killed in 1963, a deadly event of which the current tyranny has emerged. Togo has to wait till the beginning of 1990 to recover the celebration of April 27th as Independence Day. Likewise in years 1970, the same tyranny has decided that Togolese are no longer allowed to name their kids with what dictators called 'Imported names' in the name of what those dictators called 'authenticity'. In this perspective, in our birth certificates with red ink they removed our baptism names. Thousands in Togo are still affected nowadays. Because how people are known since early age doesn't correspond to what is in their official documents.
We are in a bloody and dynastic dictatorship where modern slavers and other criminals are perpetuating slavery. There is no independence.
