I track mostly the same way that you do, though I use Markup instead of PK. I also have a huge backlog of paper patterns and boxes of highlighters so I don’t track stitch counts, but I do track hours and/or days stitched. Happy stitching!!
Tracking hours is awesome, I wish I had a bit more patience for it. I tried doing that when I first started a large full coverage piece, but I would forget to start and stop my timer all the time!
Thank you for sharing!!! You asked about how Michelle Bendy may add pics to her videos in real time. I personally use a video recording program called XSplit Broadcaster. I can set up different "recording profiles" using different cameras and angles. My favorite one right now is my front facing camera on the main screen and my second monitor screen is captured in a smaller window I can toggle on and off while recording where I can show pics, PDFs I haven't printed, websites, etc.
I enjoyed seeing your Excel tracker. I use Excel to track my projects too. I like that you have how you finished the piece. I might add that to my tracker.
I absolutely LOVE how you incorporate your STEM mind with your creative side. You keep it fun and interesting on both sides. It's not always easy to hold someone's attention when talking about things like stats and science....you do it flawlessly ☺️ Thank you again for another wonderful video. Happy Stitching -Kimberly
Thank you for your kind words, you made my day! I believe that we can never really separate different parts of ourselves or our lives, so why not blend them!
Hey lovely! The software used for realtime image pop ups etc is called OBS Studio. Mainly used for streaming but works well for recording as well. Just have to hook up your camera via PC.
Watching you has encourage me to get back to my UFO’s of cross stitching. 😊I have really enjoyed stitching again. Can you explain how you stitch without having to turn your project over? Have a wonderful week. Thank you for sharing your works of art!!
Oh my, I’m so happy to have been any part of you getting back to the craft! And yes, so this is something I specifically do with my full coverage pieces like HAEDs. Essentially, I stitch until I am either done with the color or run out, and then rather than flipping my work over and burying the thread under other stitches, I pull it up to the front 20-30 squares away from where I am working. Then I just leave the tail of the thread hanging in the front of my work until I have filled in most of the 20-30 space gap to get to it, meaning that I have likely stitched over it on the back multiple times and it is secure. I snip it off in the front and poke any remaining thread through to the back when I stitch in that hole. I hope that helps! If you take a look at a video where I show my HAED it might help you visualize what I mean as well, but I could go more in depth in my next video if you are still curious!
@@STEMxSTITCH Thank you for the reply and explanation this will make my stitching go so much faster. Yes, will review your video again, now that I have a better understanding of stitching without turning my work over. Kindly, Deb
Wow! I thought I was the only one counting lifetime stitches. Hello, my name is BethE and I have stitched 5,790,489,960 stitches with no end in sight. I also paint, garden, write, and teach. Nice to meet you.
Hi Nicole! Very nice progress on your WIP. I love hearing your stats each floss tube. I would definitely reach out to Michelle regarding the software and editing. I am sure that if you can provide her with the specifics of your program that she and her husband, Wade, would be able to at least direct you in the right direction of where to find the info you are wanting. I would definitely wait until after Market is over since she is in the throes of that and will be traveling to it in at the end of the week, but she is so supportive of new floss tubers and new designers that I am sure she will help if at all possible. I wish I could figure out how to make my paper full coverage patterns work in Pattern Keeper or Mark Up. I find that I am not pulling them out to work on them because I am not enjoying the process of searching for the symbols since I started using PK. Hope you have a great week. Happy stitching.
Thanks Dawn! In terms of getting paper patterns into PK, have you taken a look at any of the tutorial videos on the pattern keeper TH-cam? I find them to be pretty helpful! It seems like adding in a paper pattern doesn't give you the full functionality (i.e. you cant search for symbols automatically) but it is something. Not sure if this might work better in Mark-up.
Can’t wait to see your video on the patterns you want to do 😊. I think Michelle bendy stitchy does her floss tubes live in twitch and does overlays on OBS or something similar and just changes the overlays as she goes, then she just uploads the VOD of the steam. I could be very wrong with that though
I'm so happy to have found your channel! I really enjoy your videos, even if we don't stitch the same things it's still inspiring. :) I also have an excel file to track my stitching but it's funny, I can see the scientist in you with what you track in your file whereas I come from an accounting background so I mostly track my budget and what I buy (divided tabs for charts, linen, floss). 😅
Another fun episode Nicole! I was just watching a FlossTuber who shared a design that made me think of you. Have you seen the Satsuma Street designs? The designer has a series of city designs that are really fun. All done with bright colors and shown finished in hoops. I think the Seattle pattern is calling your name. :)
I just started using Markup and I lovvve it! I honestly did not think I would ever make the transition from paper patterns, but I love seeing all the stats it keeps (just like pattern keeper). I think for the larger patterns that are broken up into multiple pages it'll take a little more getting used to on my end and how my brain works, but I def would say this is a good alternative for people who dont have an android device! Love your videos :) So awesome to see more stitchers my age killing it!
When I first started, I also thought I would stick with paper patterns no matter what. But digital trackers are too good not to use! And thank you so much, I love finding other younger stitchers as well ❤️
Im so excited to see the patterns you’ve been working on once you’re ready to share them! Also an avid Markup R-XP user as I stitch from my iPad. There is a yearly subscription fee after 30 days but it’s well worth it in my opinion. Can’t wait to see your next video. Have a great week!
When you talk about college life... it reminds me of the series Felicity!!! I used to use Pattern Keeper on my phone, worked great... I did end up getting a tablet so I didn't have to collapse PK to look at messages I received, comment in TH-cam, check emails, check FB... I have a lifetime subscription to The Stitch Patterns, but haven't figured out how to download the recently added charts! Great to see you continue with Flosstube!
I have never heard of that series, just looked it up and it started the same year I was born! It’s on the watch list now! So far I have really enjoyed having a separate tablet for pk for many of the same reason as I used to use it on my computer. They shared a lifetime subscription with me recently (such kind designers!), did you receive a Dropbox link? I believe they told me they update it weekly.
@@STEMxSTITCH I absolutely love the Felicity series!!! I have watched it several times! Oh... I didn't realize the link for The Stitch Patterns that they sent! I will find that!!!
You are very organised, What, with the spread sheets he he. I remember trying to learn to do them. I failed badly. I've decided to use a notebook to track my WIPS and new starts, date, how many days I stitch on it, whether I liked it or not, the name of pattern and of course, the proverbial stickers. At the end of the month, I put a star by my favourite WIP that month. I tried pattern keeper but only having a smart phone, it could not recognise my photos and they were fuzzy. Once again, I enjoyed your video and look forward to the next and your chat about your PHD. Please could you include in your chat, how many presentations you had to do and if they were nerve wracking? Thank you. Lots love xx
I love tracking in notebooks as well! I was a bullet journaler throughout undergrad and it worked very well for me. I love that you pick a favorite WIP of the month. And yes! I will definitely talk about presentations and the requirements for my program.
I'm such a sticky beak, I'd love to see your favourites on Etsy. That is my home base for patterns and I love seeing what other people have saved away :)
I love seeing someone else tracking all the fun numbers! I used excel last year and it was great! I then found Airtable and Notion and it has been lots of fun using thwm. I started with Airtable (basically excel on steroids) but was frustrated with row limits in the free version as I also use it to track my stash. I then moved over to Notion which is prettier and free (for my needs) but not quite as user friendly. I’m happy to share my templates if you are interested.
Ooooo, I have seen Notion becoming more and more popular lately, but haven’t taken the dive myself! Would LOVE to see your templates and what you’ve done with it!
@@STEMxSTITCH I’ll try to figure out how to send them to you! I prefer Airtable (faster, easier formulas, etc) but they limit the number of rows per base in the free version. Frizzy Lizzie has a video on Notion and she shares her template in the description which is what I started with and added too.
The excel file I used was published by Teresa Little Stitcher in Dec 2021 in her 2022 plans video. It was nice as there is a tab for each month to record stitching days and then a summary for the year.
Have a question please. Where did you get the grippers you have on your frame holding your excess fabric? I am using binder clips right now. Not functional, thread gets caught. 😢

Great progress on Unexpected Visitors. I love the Scion cross stitch and all the others you have made me. Love you 💚!
Thanks Dad, love you too ❤️
If I didn’t know that you’re a scientist, I’d know from watching your tracking system. You remind me of one of my daughters and that makes me happy.
This is a huge compliment, thank you 😊 honestly, sometimes I feel like my stitching is more organized than my science 😆
Thanks for the birthday wish ❤
