  • How I fixed an oil leak on my 2014 Toyota Corolla. I show why it was leaking, and how I fixed it. If your Corolla is leaking oil from the filter assembly, but the leak is not from the filter cap, then it's likely coming from the two plugs on the side. I show how to remove the plugs and replace them which fixes this problem.
    Part #'s
    Gasket/Washer: 90430-20004 (Bin 5C6G3)
    Plug: 90341-A0008 (Bin 5D7A3)
    To Remove Bolts a 10mm Hex Key Is Required.

      Thanks! I filmed this just in case others wonder like I did what is going on when it leaks there. I asked the dealer and they said this happens very rarely. I don't think I've done anything special to make it happen.. just driving in winter rusted it out and that was it. Quite amazing. If I knew this could be an issue, I would spray rust proof gel over this bolt every year.. I will from now on.

      Check your coolant level, see this video: th-cam.com/video/ouTERODc1xE/w-d-xo.html It could very well be coolant yes.

      @@efrainhernandez2255 Maybe it's washer fluid that mixed with some dirt? I'd try to put something like a plastic lid from a storage container underneath to catch some of it and see what it is.

    I have a 2008 Toyota Corolla Sedan. Just replace the racker cover gasket, tensioner gasket, still i have this oil leaks around this filter plug

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe it's the washer.. if it's rusty, you can see it visually. Mine was very on the outside. What I like to do is clean the oil off really good with paper towel, and drive an hour or so, then see where it re-appears. Wind will move the oil around, so driving a lot will spread it everywhere, then it's hard to tell where it's coming from.

    Hello clever fix, last time your videos helped my with serpentine belt change, Now i have a new problem on my 2015 corolla. My engine light came on three weeks ago and the obd sensor is reading that i have an cylinder 2 misfire, So i changed the spark plugs and no more engine check. Three weeks later which is today the engine check light started flashing and the engine was still running but it wanted to stall so i pulled over, after 15 minutes the engine light was not flashing anymore but it was still on, so i drove it home and checked my engine. The coolant was normal, the engine oil normal but i noticed there was oil leak but dry on the BACK in the middle of the engine passenger side. You have any idea what it is? thanks in advance

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hopefully it's not the head gasket.. I would do a compression test on the cylinder with the misfire and the adjacent ones, to make sure the compression is OK. If it is, then the only thing I can think of at the moment would be the spark plug coil itself having some sort of malfunction, or the wiring to it. When you replaced the plugs, you moved the wires around, so maybe it's something related to wires, and the oil leak is a completely separate issue. Since it came and went away and came back, it sounds more like a wire related issue than a permanent thing like head gasket.
      So it could be many things.. more diagnosis will be needed.. here's some info on head gasket blown and causing oil leak to the outside:
      www.agcoauto.com/content/news/p2_articleid/200
      "An external oil leak
      It is also common to find failures between an oil passage and the outside. Such damage results in an external oil leak, and possibly no other symptom."

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Keep in mind that misfire is bad for the engine, and causes engine damage.. so I'd be very careful to avoid as much misfire as possible.
      There may be a method in the manual for testing the coil with a voltmeter, although I haven't checked into it.. I may do a video if there is, It will take me some time though.

      @@CleverFix Hey clever fix thank you i appreciate the quick reply 😊, and so what i did was check the coil manually and switched number 2 coil with number 3 coil and put the obd back again, But now its saying that p300 cylinder 1 is misfiring lol.Im in the process right now of checking it again but in the meantime i changed my air filter, i last changed it at 70,000 miles I now have 132,000 so quickly changed it and cleaned the maf sensor which by the way was really dirty. So im going to try that if it doesnt work ill check the coil again. Thanks again clever fix

      Update... so i started driving with the new air filter and engine light came off then a few minutes later came on again. So i went home and checked my obd again and FINALLY my obd is finally showing exactly what was wrong. A few weeks and up to today it kept showing PO302 which was a cylinder misfire then finally today it showed PPO 352 and it read ignition coil B primary/ secondary circuit. Got a new coil and installed and engine light disappeared right away. Hopefully thats it haha thanks for your videos and always replying @clever fix happy holidays!!! anyway where are you guys located?

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@relaxingmusicrelaxingmusic5510 You said you moved the coil around, but you're still getting problem on the #2 it seems? 352 and 302 both indicate cylinder #2. So it would be unlikely a defective coil if after swapping it, it's still showing trouble on #2.
      Sounds like an intermittent problem to me,.. could be computer or wire harness related, but like I said before, I would check compression to make sure also.
      Here are the items to check according to the manual for this code..
      Open or short in engine wire harness
      Connector connection
      Vacuum hose connections
      Ignition system
      Fuel injector assembly
      Fuel pressure
      Mass air flow meter sub-assembly
      Engine coolant temperature sensor
      Compression pressure
      Valve timing
      PCV valve and hose
      PCV hose connections
      Intake system
      ECM
      *: The MIL flashes when a catalyst-damaging misfire is detected.
      The P0302 takes 2 trips to show up, so keep that in mind also.. it doesn't show up immediately.
      I'd definitely check compression first... the rest are harder to check.. and the list is long!.. Seems even something like a clogged injector could cause it.

    How many pounds are the plugs torqued to?

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobody knows really.. I used 25 ft.lbs myself, but there is no specification that can be found in any manual. My dealer told me 22, but someone else then found out that it's not specified anywhere, so I'm not sure where they got 22. My car has been running OK, and no leak again.

    Where did you get your torque specs?

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question.. I was unable to find it anywhere in manuals, I had to ask the dealer. They told me 22 ft lbs, which seemed quite low, so I tightened it to 25 ft lbs. I've had no problem since.. and I'm not sure if the dealer looked it up right, he said that's all he could find. I don't have access to techinfo.toyota.com/ but I would guess if the dealer has it, then it would be there too, although it may not be.

      Is yours leaking at the same place? I'm wondering if other people are having this problem. The dealer told me I am the first to buy this part.

      @@CleverFix Mine looks to be in the same area. I replaced the oil filter housing (plastic piece) and oil filter o ring and replaced it with an OE from the dealer. Same thing. After searching TH-cam, saw your video and was inclined to look into replacing the two o ring and two crush washers. Found specs for oil filter bracket but not the two crush washers. Searched everywhere no luck. Even called my local dealer no luck. Helped me out. Thanks

    • @CleverFix
      @CleverFix  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@guscarguy I wiped it off, and every time a drop formed on the bolt again and the bolt was wet, so that's how I figured it out. If the bolt is all rusty, then the washer is likely rusty too. My bolt looked terrible.
      You made me wonder now, since your dealer cannot find it, how my dealer found it.. That washer is quite thin though, so a lower torque makes some sense.. the oil drain plug has a thick washer and is 27 ft lbs.
      I also checked 2 manuals with no luck.. Now I wonder if the TIS has it..

      @@CleverFix The dealer told me they couldn't find it. They sell the washers to repair it though. It doesn't make sense why the torque specs are not in a factory service manual. I checked there as well

    Toyota sure makes some crap these days!!! I remember in the 80's when Toyota's never went in for repair. I had 3 corollas 1983 1995 2009. The first two went 100k miles with no repairs. The 2009 just hit 100k and it has had new spark plugs, new ignition coils, 2 new alternators, a complete rack and pinion steering replacement, water pump, air bag recall replacement, new window switches do to recall and now it's going in for a oil leak. WHAT A F**KIN POS TOYOTA MAKES TODAY!!!!!
