Trudeau, Poilievre clash over Tory campaign manager’s connection to Loblaws

  • During question period, faced with a question over soaring vehicle thefts, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau switched the focus to Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s campaign manager, Jenni Byrne, and her alleged ties to Loblaws.
“If Canadians are going to believe this leader of the opposition, he needs to come clean with who is funding his organization,” he said.
In response, Poilievre said Trudeau was “desperate” and listed several people in Trudeau’s orbit, including his marketing director Max Valiquette, who he said had ties to the grocery giant.
Poilievre also repeated his accusation that carbon pricing has contributed to food inflation - a claim which Trudeau said there is no evidence to support.

In 2019, Trudeau gave Loblaws 12 million for freezers. Loblaws was earning billions and in no way did they need support. It was given to Loblaws for a reason. In 2020, it was reported that Trudeau posted that he was working in the PMO and he was found to be staying with the Weston family at their summer cottage in Georgian Bay.
