I dig on fishing old jitterbug crazy and zar spooks. I trust I won't likely lose a topwater.

Sir, just a little of an old fisherman's memory concerning, what you refer to as a door-stop, the Daily Double. In those years (1950's) of production, many of the old bass fishermen when I was young, swore by the Daily Double. The 4-inch model was most preferred in a frog pattern. You appear to have fished the bait too "fast" to get the maximum tantalizing movement of this bait. In certain areas of the country, Great Lakes, rivers, and in the quiet waters of a pond or creek this bait was a real "killer-go-getter" of the highest order. Most bass pro fisherman, including those of us not tournament fisherman, have no clue about this blast from the past. If you could have seen this bait in action, when good fishermen put this Daily Double Lure on and spend the day casting it to the bank from their old wooden fishing boats of that time. Those elderly fishermen could make the lure (Daily Double), that you didn't like, sing and dance and catch fish. I thought you might find that little bit of fishing history interesting.

Hey there! Thank you for writing. Honestly, it’s probably because I’m not used to lure. I’m sure it’s a fish catcher. Definitely like hearing the stories! Thanks again for watching and commenting!

I would like to see more videos you using vintage lures. Most guys are afraid to use them

That’s the plan. As soon as the water thaws I’ll be back with more vintage lure content. Thanks for watching

Sir, in years gone past, I believe in the early 70's, while fishing at the River Bend Park (Chattahoochee River) my father-in-law and myself were fishing in an area where the bank was steep and the water deep. My deep diving plug then was a solid black Bomber Lure. This is the deep water plug that resembles a crawfish or a WW 2 bomb. It was very popular with bass fishermen, usually the next to largest size Bomber. The largest Bomber was suited for big Pike, musky, and small whales. It was too large for bass, and only salt water fishermen, or those fisherman that got up north to fish for those big pike and musky. The frog pattern Bomber was another local favorite deep water bait. Anyway while fishing the banks our boat drifted with the current and we subsequently come upon a area where locals jerked from the bank. There was an elderly gent fishing that day. His fishing gear and bait used caught my attention. I could identify the reel as a Zebco Spinning Reel, might have been the Model 202.The rod appeared to be a semi-stiff worn rod, and the bait used I could not identify then. I thought it to be a Lazy Ike at first, and I called out a "good morning" greeting to this aged fisherman out of respect and being nosy as hell if he was catching anything with that unknown bait. We were having a little luck, with several 2 and 3-pound bass in the boat live well. I asked him, not thinking he was catching anything but air with that bait, if he was having any luck.He hollered back and said yeah a little bit. He reached down and pulled up a stringer with two "monster size" bass. He told us that he had caught them on that bait he was fishing. We made our way to the bank and got out of our boat for a closer exam. I had not seen bass that big in a while. I asked him what sort of lure he was fishing with. Having been a bass fisherman for many years I was familiar with most of the lures that caught bass in this area. What he had wasn't one of them. He identified his bait as a Daily Double. Pops went on to say that the bait was versatile. The bait was similar to a Lazy Ike, sort of a wide V-shape. There were a set of painted eyes on both ends, and a line-tie screw head on each end. Positioned so that the fisherman could fish shallow (for spring time) or the other end deep (for summer). According to him, he fished parallel to the bank, with a slow retrieve, when the first bass hit his bait. Later in the morning he through this Daily Double Lure parallel to the bank again at a different location. BAM! Lightening struck twice! Another Hogg done went for the Daily Double. On the way back home, I remember mentioning something to my father-in-law about getting one of those Daily Double Lures. The lure had a slow wobble action similar to the Lazy Ike, but with a different look. Being in the Deep South, the Daily Double was never marketed here-abouts. I ordered one out of a fishing magazine, but never experience the kind of luck pop did with those two mini-whales he caught that day. Your video brought back a great fishing memory I had while fishing. The action of the Daily Double is very seductive to bass, I never fished my Daily Double much, because my favored fish-catchers were the Lazy Ike, Heddon Vamp, Heddon Zaragossa, Bomber, Outside of these lures, I strayed very few times. Sorry for the length, that memory was a good one.

That is awesome to hear and exactly why I make these videos! I’m really glad it brought back those great memories. Like you I didn’t have a ton of luck with the daily double, but it fun to bring back life to an old lure. Appreciate the story and thanks for watching!!

Never stumbled across the Heddon Lure. The double looks kinda like a classic lake trolling lure. You are a brave man to fish it off the bank! 😂. Great video!

Haha! Trolling should have been the way to go! The bank was brutal

The 50's had great muscle cars, awesome music, and some interesting fishing lures. All before my time, but I love it!
They had two different sizes of Daily Double lures, as well as floating & sinking ones. I've made a couple of them.
I've never seen a Stingaree, maybe I'll have to make one of those too.

Totally agree, the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s had incredible cars, music and lures.
I might to give the downsized sinking daily double a chance. That might be the way to go.
You should definitely try the stinger, fun unique little lure! Thanks for watching

South of the Mason/Dixon line.... some lures I wanted to like was the Heddon Tiny Torpedo and the Jitter Bug. I can't recall that I caught anything on either.... or any Mepps baits.

I imagine you've got plenty of lures to choose from to make videos but how about a video on the beno eel lure

That’s a great idea. I actually don’t have any of those. I’m sure they’re super effective. Essentially a jointed Lazy Ike style lure. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll add that to the list.

Its nothing more than a take off of Charlie Helins Banna Curved Flatfish. Its not meant to cast and and retrieved. They were designed to be slow trolled.

How do you not have 100k subs? CONSPIRACY? have you ever said things like FJB? Also good stuff! If you tackled fly fishing, you could busy yourself for another decade!

Haha! Thanks man! If I had to chose to fish one way the rest of my life it would be fly fishing! I absolutely love it.
