Brand new batteries and I was so frustrated. Worked brilliantly. And thank you for not having a 5 minute explanation of the physics behind why this is happening prior to getting into the fix. You rock!

Thank you for this! I had a replacement battery in my cart, but decided to check for a better price and your video came up in my search results. Tried this technique for 10 minutes and it switched over to charging. Much appreciated!

I had a somewhat new battery that would not charge even though it showed two light bars on it. I did this for about 2 minutes and it worked. Thanks for the simple tip with no long winded explanation.

Thought this could never work plug it in and out as fast as you can only took about 3 mins and it started charging saved me from buying 2 new batteries… keep it plugged into the charger took about 15 minutes to start charging… I have T100 batterys. Thank you great hack

Wow, had the battery apart to do the 'bypass circuit board' charge and was just looking for a video to show where the positive and negative was on the inside and found your video. Put the battery back together, three times in and out of the charger and it started charging fine. Amazing.
Thought it would take like 40 times or something. Battery hasn't been charged in probably six months before this. Thank you.

Tried this over and over again on a very dead battery pack. Finally drilled out the tamper resistant screws. Found 5 cells in series that collectively had 1 volt. Used a small 9V DC charger across two cells for about 20 minutes. And then across the other 3 cells for about an hour. Voltage across the 5 cells rose to about 16V and then I could use the charger. So yeah, thanks for the suggestion! Sadly, nothing kind to say about Ryobi.

Hello Louis Scott here understanding your efforts to getting a Ryobi to charge and you are correct but a method I used was to get a tricycle charger and connect the positive and negative leads portion to the + and - sides of the Ryobi battery for just a second are two eliminate the detective mode. Probable NOT recominded.

I did this with my battery and checked progress with a multimeter. My battery was only reading 0.01 volts at start. Did this for 1hr 20min and battery read 0.18 volts. Battery would not charge. Charging threshold is at least 0.5 volts, I believe. At that rate, I’d have been there for at least another 2hrs. It works, I guess. You just gotta have patience. I purchased some cheap alligator clips and will just be disassembling the battery and jumping it directly, bypassing the drain check.

At 17 volts, it sounds like one of the five lithium cells inside is low / out of balance. The BMS sees this and won’t charge the other fours cells past 4.2 volts each.
The solution is to open up the battery and measure each of the cells. When you find the low voltage cell, charge that one cell with a cheap 18650 cell charger and a couple alligator clips.

Didn't work..took the 5 screws (Torx 10 security) out, measured each cell, found the weak ones ( under 2.6 volts) and used a single cell LiIon charger from the usual scumbags on each until voltage was over 2.7. Then I used a 5 cell charger for the entire battery until it had 16 volts. Re ass embled and slapped it into the fast charger. Like mint.
The reason for this is a cell protection circuit which won't turn the main MOSFETs, feeding the electrons to the negative side.
Battery pack protection circuits don't all work the same way. Weak cells are the weak link and could be damaged if charged in series, causing a fire. So if you use any method to resurrect dead packs, do it outside on a flame resistant surface. Have a bucket of water handy to quench any chemistry version of a scaled down Chernobyl run away.
