I shied away from learning DMX for years. I finally gave up the ghost of non-compliance and spent several days diving in and making a note book writing down the programming for each light and learning the Chauvet Obey 40 programming steps. Making lots of mistakes is best because the time you are able to program a 12 light bar into 8 scenes into one chase mode will elevate your ability to put down creative light combo chase scenes. I am much older than you so I know you have the time and energy to learn DMX. Good luck Sir !!
Great video I just got my ils comand for the very same reasons. I also taped uv filters over the strobe lights so they strobe uv instead of just white it alos tamed the brightness, so they are not so bright.
Great! 👍 I had the move a while ago, now i have a smaller version from eurolite without the moving heads. The lighting thing is realy a world on its own..
What other good options are out there now. Let's say I'm on a budget between 2000 to 5000 dollars? Trying to find cool classy lighting solutions that i can get creative with and don't look cheap. @@tarekith
Thanks for the thorough review! A lot more than what they have out there. I’ve been using mine for about 3 months and the casing already ripped. Also a major issue I have is every time I plug it in it asks to insert usb stick and won’t work accurately. It this like a need to update firmware thing? I have to unplug and plug numerous times until it randomly works
@@tarekithHey! Just recognized your name from the Ableton forum a from long time ago! I was Hambone. I sequenced and controlled all of my audio, video, and lighting through Live back then. I miss those days!

Do you know if Chauvet has addressed any of the issues you pointed out since you published this review? Looks like it was 9 months ago. I have a Chauvet Gigbar 2.0 and am considering upgrading to this unit, and a command to have a bit better control. I hate not being able to easily navigate to a white wash or something in the middle of a wedding reception dance etc. Nice review! Thanks. 👍
It's light is incredible and we used 2 GigBars and the ILS Command in a big room with about 1000 guests. Incredible light effects and really good quality. Every € spend is worth it :)
Oh wow, thank your answer!, Well, it’s a Great device. Was the Programs and Shows included in the command Controller ,or made it by Yourself ? Best regards, Sebastian.
When in Blackout the movers still make noise and moving arround.... set first in freeze and after that in blackout ;-) ( then you hear only the fans :-) )
Do you know how we get two to work? I can’t find any info on how to set up the 2nd gig bar. Would I keep the 2nd gig bar set to the same Dfi channel as the 1st?
@@JonathanMahoneyDOP Hi, yes, actually this was easy to get to resolve. As I wanted both GigBars to do the same, I made the settings identical on both bars and used the same DFI channel. In my case I used DFI 16 and also specified this on my ILS Command et viola :).
this was done under settings and I put the GibBars btw also to Slave, as the ILS COmmand is the Master device. Just wanted to add it to my previous comment ;)
@@tarekith Is it something you can test? There's not many recent videos on it, and I'm looking for something simple to control the lights instead of getting the external hardware controller
@@tarekith what are tape outs? I have FLX10 and I want to connect it to ILS Command with AUX. What cable should I buy? I am thinking about 3.5 aux (ILS Command) to RCA (FLX10). Will it work?
I'm interested in only using the remote and not the command....can you dim lights with only use of the hand held remote. I have reached out to so many TH-camers and have not been able to get a difinitive answer. Thanks for your help 🙏
@@manidelgado Yes you can dim the lights with the remote, but it's a very slow process where you have to hit the + and - buttons many times. Also, you lose control over dimming on individual lights, it's all or nothing. You cannot dim the strobes at all with the remote.
I have this gigbar and ils command, and also a gigbar2...would you recommend using both to ensure good coverage, particularly if I set up one of them behind me? Also if I just a small amt of fog from my machine in front of gigbar I place behind me, will the fog stay in place for the most part, or will it blanket the room no matter how little I dispense?
Nothing wrong with using both Gigbars, but I don't think the ILS command will work with the Gigbar 2, only the gigbar move + ILS. Fog/haze tends to dissipate pretty quickly once in the air, so a little bit will fade away pretty quickly and you'll need to introduce more over time. In my experience it tends to slowly blanket whatever space it's in, though with most haze machines today it doesn't smell bad or anything that might bother an audience.
Dude...when you do get into DMX it's going to fit your sets SO MUCH BETTER! I think for you you should think about doing something like 4 Intimidator Spot 260s on totems, and then a 4 bar quad ILS behind you...Plus I think you can then get a stronger laser to put as your centerpiece, PLUS if you want to stronger derbies.
I ended up trading my ILS Command for the WMX1 right after I made this video actually :) not sure I can afford new lights yet though, pretty pricey once you get out of the Gigbar realm.
@@amax92 I plan on doing a video review here shortly, but briefly the WMX1 gives you a little more control over the strobes, moving heads, and pars, but a little less control over the laser and overall colors available to all the fixtures. Mainly due to Chauvet not opening up all the Gigbar functionality to their DMX Spec.
You better off with a obey 70 , program eight different scenes and call it a day’ also the controller is overpriced ; for Wi-Fi get a difi wireless transmitter and receiver range is good up to a 100ft
Thanks for this, I like how you've set up the laser and derbys, great idea! Appreciate your time for making this video!
Excellent video! Very thorough explanation and appreciate you taking the time to make this video. Very helpful.
I will say the nice thing about the ILS command is that some of the functionality missing could be addressed with firmware upgrades.

go into settings, scroll to panning and put in 360 or 540

Only if they are from chauvet and also use the ILS protocol.
