  • Yves Moreau teaches Cukanoto which is a Bulgarian folk dance. Yves Moreau learned this variation on the popular Tropanka type of stamping dance from Sašo Zankin. This is an excerpt from the 2017 Lyrids Folk Dance Festival DVD. Full dance begins at 3:39. See more information about the Lyrids Folk Dance Festival at lyridsfolkdancefestival.org/. Thank you. I danced cukanoto many times in Berkeley through the 1960's. This clear presentation helped me remember the steps and the arm movements. It came right back.

Absolutely loved it, learned the dance with ease myself.
I would love to take part in a dance seminar with him as a tutor. Admirations and thanks for sharing!

The "Тropanka" is not from Rhodopes region. It is from Dobrugea region. I am a profesional dancer in a profesional bulgarian folk ensemble. Chukanoto is realy from Rhodopes, but Tropanka not. These are two very very different folk regions. Rhodopes are in the south of Bulgaria, next to the turkish frontier, but Dobrugea is in the north-east of the country. Please not propagate wrong information. Tropanka is not equal to Chukanoto.

He didn't say they were the same dance. He means that the names are both about stamping, not that the dances are the same. Yves is a world expert on Bulgarian Dance. He was awarded the St. Cyril medal from the Bulgarian Government for his contributions to Bulgarian Folk culture. You are misinterpreting what he said.

This one is not Tropanka. It's Chukano. You can refer to this video: th-cam.com/video/20FKGP8fZG4/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=%D0%A0%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BD%D0%B0%D0%9A%D0%BD%D1%8F%D0%B3%D0%B8%D0%BD%D1%8F

Emanuel Tenev: Sometimes we think we know, but we are wrong. There's where someone like you comes in. You told him what he obviously didn't know. I'm a fan of Dobrujanska Rjecka so I like knowing this. Thank you.
