- Texas Governor Greg Abbott pardoned Daniel Perry, a former US Army sergeant who was convicted of murdering a 2020 Black Lives Matter protestor.
Abbott's decision comes after the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles voted unanimously on Thursday to recommend a full pardon and the restoration of Perry's firearm rights.
Perry faced between five and 99 years in prison for fatally shooting 28-year-old Air Force veteran Garrett Foster at an Austin, Texas, racial justice rally two months after the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. A judge sentenced Perry to 25 years in prison last year.

Under a second Trump term there will be no protections from the Federal government. You know what this reminds me of folks. Good old fashioned Jim Crow. Which I experienced front and center as a child. Some of the most evil and demented people were given the power, both on the ground and institutional, to do as they pleased. And there were no protections from the core power structures of law enforcement, judges and elected officials. I think some of our White Brothers and sisters had better wake up.Because under Jim Crow there were also White people who died or were beaten and maimed standing up for justice for all people. @@middleguy1776 But the idea of self-defense becomes a bit perverted when the alleged "defender" makes a conscious choice to go towards the danger. And once there he opens fire before there is a clear signal of an impending lethal act on him or anyone else. Especially being that he was a military man. And even more so if he has any combat experience because we are trained to use restraint until the weapon is at minimum pointed at you. He knows that much of the U.S. has legal open carry laws and that he could likely see people carrying firearms. That alone does NOT pose a lethal threat and he very well knows this! I imagine he was in great fear and rightfully so. But again, he made the choice to go directly into the danger zone. And this was after making allot of aggressively threatening comments to other people. So, yes, it appears that he was looking for an excuse to kill some protesters. And that is exactly why he was convicted by a jury of his peers!

One of the last lynchings was when two good ole boys dragged a black guy behind their truck until he died. Also in TX. The state did execute the two.
