    Here is an idea: Park the RV in the garage if possible and turn on a shop light under the RV and turn the garage lights off. Go into the RV with its lights off and if you can see any light inside the RV from the shop light, plug that hole.

      Who knew mice were so afraid of the dark? I guess turning off the lights and playing hide-and-seek with them is the way to go!

    We use copper wool instead of steel wool as it won’t rust. In the last seven years we’ve had mice twice. I would also suggest cleaning every cabinet and surface with a disinfectant prior to closing up for the season. And of course remove all food and every crumb! Both times we had mice it was just after our TT had been worked on. And they multiply quickly. So be sure to check that underbelly for any new points of entry. Luckily for us are TT is stored on our property and we can inspect as needed. We use a combination of traps, checking them frequently and fresh cab.

    I use bars of Irish spring. Place a couple on top of the tires and up on the A-frame. Seems to work.

      Then again, I've heard from folks who tried it and said the soap showed signs that the mice were nibbling on it! Go figure.

      @@RVLifestyle I've read that the formula for Irish spring has changed and/or it loses the scent and that's why it's not effective anymore.

    Never heard about wrapping tires in sheet metal. Not sure how I'd do that.

    We are heading back to our winterized and stored 5th wheel, today, to try to get rid of the nasty things! We found them, earlier this week. I used the peppermeint on cotton balls and fabric softener sheets FOR YEARS! Never had a sign of the darned varmints. Now, they held a party in drawers, my recliner (!) and used the sinks as a toilets!! Any help would be appreciated! We are using poison, today, and I am so scared they will die and stink, in the camper. BTW we have always camped, for months at a time, with our housecat, and figured she was a deterrent, until now.

      Uh-oh, sounds like those mice really made themselves at home in your RV! Good luck with the poison, just make sure to open all the windows and air out the camper afterwards!

      I and others in our campground also found mice had been in our campers/RV over the winter. The winter was unusual with virtually no snow, which made it very easy for mice to travel over the ground. We also found lots of acorn bits inside, so the mice took the outside food to go, apparently. BTW, I had mice droppings and acorns in the drawer that had a box of fabric softener sheets.

    Do lights around the rig work?

    • @lauravictorious4670
      @lauravictorious4670 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Supposedly they do, on the ground level. There are strobe lights some people use also. I got mice in mine over the winter when it was stored and when I returned I wanted to let them know I was back. One thing I did was put a rope light under the RV and used peppermint oil, so far no signs of return.

      @@lauravictorious4670soak rags in plastic sandwich bags in ammonia and leave the bag slightly open. Place around perimeter of the RV.

      @@WestShoreMan are you talking about this method for mice or chipmunks? I got the mice over the winter when it was all shut up although I do wonder if there's one in the ceiling. Can't tell if it's chipmunks on the roof or a mouse in the ceiling. If it's the latter then it's not going into the drawers or cabinets, which is good, but I have some lights that stopped working and the ceiling fan. I ordered those high frequency noise plug ins, just in case, to drive out any rodents that I hope aren't there.

      @@WestShoreMan I've never heard anyone talk about ammonia but if humans don't like the smell I can imagine mice don't either. I'd like to know the best things to do to keep them out when I winterize this fall. If it's a normal winter, with snow, that will make a difference. Peppermint is good but it doesn't last for six months. I'll try to block any entrances I find. Kind of tough with a motor home.
