Cold starting those old brutes was always an adventure, and people really had to know how to keep it "tuned" for the weather at hand. You are a lucky man with that Charger.
Not to be contrary, but I never really got this. I still run antique cars (at the moment a '57 Buick and '73 Charger), and as long as the carb is clean and the timing is on they fire up first turn every time. They all have their nuances, the Buick likes 5-6 pumps pre-start and then continue pumping during ignition, and I have to sacrifice a kitten every time I start the Charger, but like clockwork, first turn, every time.
@Larissa Powell it's not stock (motor or build), big cam and takes a lot of fuel to start. It's tuned in with a vacuum tester and all is good, I assure you ;)
@@kenb5581 I know you said it took you 35 years to get one but I just have to know is it a REAL 69 Charger Daytona or a replica because if that's a replica it's one of the most accurate I've seen

The 440 magnum was a beast of it's own, but I'd prefer the hemi, worth more and has HP for top end power 😜 This is bad ass car and would love to have it in my garage 👍👍
Oh how I regret not keeping my 68 charger instead of trading it in for a down payment on a 73 Dodge Swinger. Much like giving up my 57 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser for that 68 Charger. The rest of my vehicles since left no regrets!
Also the ticking noise is the hydrulic lifter filling up with oil (first seconds or so) from the oil pump, after a bit of sitting ( 6 months) the oil always drains, thats why I am very careful not to rev the engine after 6 months. I change my oil every 1000 kms, oil is cheap 440 magnum are not. Also it is has zinc addictive oil, back in the day (1969) they has leaded gas now its unleaded, the lead actually lubricated the cylinder walls back then. So I use zinc addicative oil from amsoil.
No, the lead back in the day was to prevent destroying valve seats, since heads were softer than blocks. You can do a conversion to run on unleaded by installing hardened valve seats. My father and I doing that to his 68 289.
It just means that the engine is not at operating temperature. With old cars, you had to press the peddle down until it was at normal operating temperature. Newer cars don't have the issue since there's a computer that controls everything.
@@TheWholeGrainBread_Real Well, yeah I assumed that bit. What I wanted to know is whether it damages the car, whether it makes a difference to the exhaust/engine notes. There must be a reason why in so many car videos about engine-sounds the uploader always specifies when it's a cold start.
The fact its a Daytona makes it so much cooler
Right? The Plymouths are also legendary, but with so many more of those made than the Dodges, it makes the Daytonas that much more special.
can it turn right or is it zoolander of cars?

The ultimate muscle car in my book. The Daytona Chargers were mean in Nascar.
I know its an incredibly cool car, but I always loved the sound of that specific starter, does anyone here know the model of it ?
Its a perfomance starter the orginal MOPAR starter was too big with the headers in the way.
