This is the best video I have seen in a LONG time, I am confident that this video will get the same (if not more) amount of veiws as the previous one had. This defiantly will be liked, favorited, and added to playlists. By me and sevral others.
@RainbowDisposal Thank you very much! Yeah - when the video got to be almost 20mins, I was thinking "This has got to be 'TOO LONG' for a video." Then I watched it, and it seemed to flow ok, so I ran with it. Very glad you enjoyed it.
Yes, my 3 year old is SERIOUSLY obsessed with your work FormerWMDriver. Thank you for giving me hours of time to get stuff done while he watches. They say garbage truck drivers are the ROCK STARS of the under-fives, and they're right :)
Cool so my favorite trash company is gerber's so the company was family owned and operated in 1938 for 70 years in Cockeysville near the baltimore county central acceptance facility in Cockeysville in baltimore county maryland.
Hey thank you for that video I am a wildland firefighter but on the off season I work on the back of a garbage truck.... I did not realize they're all different types of trucks like that especially with different arms reaching out
"everybody knows about the automated side loader, you have to be a fucking fool to not know about the automated side loader" -Charlie "critik4l" white 2020
When it comes to the palm fronds, some areas do not offer a separate "yard waste" collection - so they end up in the trash. As for the control of the ASL arm, each manufacturer has slightly different controls. There are 3 common types of controls for ASL's - a joystick, levers, or rocker switches. Some manufacturers have an "auto-dump" feature that will automate most of the dump cycle, generally the driver has total control over the dumping cycle. The "shake" is from the operator.
so a manual side loader is basically just a M/ASL but without the automated arm. I bet having one less moving part to maintain must be a nice perk to have.
@labrieexpert2000 The truck at 12:00 is a Waste Management Inc - Mack LEU (Low Entry Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel TerraPro) with a McNeilus manual side load body. That truck is collecting single stream recycling.
Is that first truck an Autocar? It looks almost identical to the Matchbox Autocar garbage truck that I have (sorry, "recycling truck...says so on the side!). Even has the same still automatic-loading bed (hopper?). I'm going to have to come back and watch the whole video, just because I'm curious now! Love how you can find so much different stuff on TH-cam.
Assume that the truck will break or malfunction (don't be in a position to get hurt when this happens - ex. don't go inside the body with the truck running)... stay away from any pinch points... and most of all remember that many people will ignore the fact that your truck exists. So, watch out for everyone around you... people really like sneaking into blind spots. Stay safe out there, and good luck!
I drive an ASL in St.Albert picking up organics. I can say that the sweeper packer (like the 2nd truck in the video) is the best type for this type of pickup. You don't have to worry about cleaning traps several times a day. I currently drive an older (around an '02) Autocar Xpeditor dual drive truck. Actually we just drive on the right hand side as that is where the joy stick is. I can get between 10,000-11,500 KG's in per load and it does 70 MPH on the highway! The only thing that sucks is they removed the AC compressor so you just about die when it's 26c and no wind. I burn about 150 liters of diesel per 10 hour shift. Out here, if the bins are too close together (suppose to have about 3 feet clearance around bin) we will tag it and not pick it up. People also like to put them under trees and under basket ball nets.
Also, do these ever fail and drop the entire can in or break the can? It looks like it is giving it a "death grip" to the point of denting it in...though I do know it needs to do that for stability.
I think it depends on the hauler. I know when I worked at Republic, they had touch screen computers with routing software inside the cab. We were able to make notes in the system about certain addresses and could even use the camera system on the truck to photograph carts. The company can use the information to track which customers were picked up and how often. The system can get quite complex, but it depends on what the company wants to do with it.
@chrisoneil723 Very cool! It's no problem. Reminds me of when I was 4, I would rush to the window to see my garbage collector... no internet back then. =)
WOOOOOOO, YEAH BABY, THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT
Best Garbage Truck video on TH-cam
That was the best 19 minutes and 9 seconds I've had on YT ever since "Heavy Rain in LC 3". Great job, better than the last.

Automated side loader is unmatched
Rear loaders are the most common type. But I like the side loaders most. Because of how they use their robotic arms to pick up the bins.

@9replay9 If I can find the time to gather more video, I will definitely make another.
If you are referring to the orange truck, then yes. That is an Autocar ACX and is very similar to the Matchbox version.
this is my child hood i remember every day i wached this when i was 2
Wtf you were allowed to use electronic devices when you were 2
