The way his wife talked about him so sweetly is just heartbreaking. All he had to do was leave. Disappear. Live in the woods if he wanted to. Go anywhere he wanted to. Live out his teenage dreams and hobbies.
I can’t get my head around why he did what he did.

@ninoalvarez7604 he was the one talking nicely, giving her money yet never standing up for himself thinking about himself, he wanted get married and have children to have someone look after him, yet when his wife got problems he wanted to come across has the dad from heaven yet under neath he is plotting to wipe them out for excitement. Wtf. He is trash that rook its self out yet to his innocent daughter first. He wasn't with her cause he loved her. He was with her cause how she loved her great husband who gives her everything while hating on her and the daughter. They bored him. And he resented them. That is the only explanation how u would kill them and hope for excitement. If he used all that cash and time he spent building he stupid den, he could have had another job. He had way to much time on his hands. No wonder he got bored. Why not join the gym, get himself a life.

To me this screams of a guy who lived every year of his life thinking, “it’ll get better, it’ll get better, as soon as this and this and this… everything will be perfect”. He just didn’t have a “big enough” issue in his life before this point. His daughter graduating was his sign that “oh I’ll never be happy ever”. The videos of himself lmk that he thinks he has/had a “grander” life that he isn’t living.
This guy started out in childhood saying to himself, “whelp if it doesn’t work out, I can always take myself out”, and never let that mindset go.

Wait, that's how I feel. My birthday was a week ago, I'm 18 and... "It'll get better, it'll get better" is a motto of my life. I feel anxious, I don't know what's next, will I finally be loved for once and stop feeling lonely, will I have enough money... And when I achieve something I actually wanted I stop wanting that. I'm such an ungrateful peasant, Jesus Christ... Hope that when time will pass I'm gonna remember it just like a memory that I shouldn't worry about because it got better and I will finally feel calm and happy.
Sorry, maybe venting is unnecessary, but thank you for making me think about it. If I'm not gonna be grateful for what I already have, then I'm always gonna be a loser. Because objectively I'm living a good life now...

@@Oliviaandtrina its due to the fact that he is a child/teen stuck in a 40 year old man's body. He fantasize about his dream that he couldn't achieve when he was a kid, so when he's faced with adult's problems and financial problems, he blames it on his family and his situation but never himself. This clearly points to narcissistic personality disorder to a psychotic level because he never seeks out treatment (most likely never realized he's mentally unstable and thought he was sane and making sense) and resorted to HIS own solution to the problem by thinking that HE is in the right and no one else can tell him otherwise. This is an extremely dangerous behavior that even the hints of it needs to be addressed and looked at right away. He doesn't even view his daughter as his own child at that point, he ACCEPTED and came to peace with his mind that killing his child is no big deal. Proves how insane and evil he really is.

How would he get supplies without going into town and being seen? You can tell very clearly he isn't planning on living off the land considering he was using a gas powered generator. His wife seemed attractive and upbeat, and his daughter had come of age and had her whole adulthood to look forward to. Peter complained of not having any money, but he had a house and withdrew from the bank much more than the average American has in checking or savings. Life is a lot about perspective, and Peter simply didn't see the wonderful things he had going for him, and for whatever reason could only see negatives. This is a strange case in that Peter was not the killer you would most expect, nor least expect. He was just an average dude who was severely depressed, and able to hide his sinister intentions from his family as his thoughts grew darker and darker.

Thats the Thing with Depression. Perspective as you mention it, can be very distorted. At some point i assume he wasnt strong enough to get divorced for example, because the initial talk to his wife would be impossibly hard to face for someone who is that depressed. Making his final decisions easier to accomplish. I wish more people knew the trivial fact that depression has a huge bandwith of All sorts of mental distortion phases or states where anything can go through their minds. People who say they are also depressed but would never do anything he did, just dont have the same illness. Depression as a term is not specific enough on its own. Keller looked like he had a good life. Remember, this is 2012 and many got hit hard during the 2008 financial crisis, $6200 in the bank, that's 10x more than what the average American had in their bank. Linette look like such a nice person. Kaylene was young and beautiful, fresh out of high school and ready to enter the real world. She had her whole life ahead of her. This man was selfish, he could've just taken off alone, didn't need to kill them. Oh well, all that building and it wasn't as remote as he thought it would be. Guess his bunker was a failure.

Study: Median American's Savings Account Balance Is $1200 (Motley Fool 2023). The median was just over $500 in 2012. This is savings we're talking about with a steady flow of weekly wages. Do you have $6200 in your savings, living on your own, paying your own bills with a steady flow of income?
Life actually existed before you became an adult, my dad made $17/hr and mom made $7 and managed to buy a home in 1990. I'm basing the financial part on 2008-2012 economy.
Shooting two innocent people in the head isn't killing? I know 2023 has relax crime laws now so a lot of crimes go unpunished, but in what world is intentionally shooting two people in the head in their bed not killing? This constitute as murder.
A liberal mindset will call it a slave life because they want everything for free instead of going out and getting it. Welcome to the real world, put in work and stop crying about everything. Don't justify this man's action because he didn't have a life of luxury. People have it tough, they don't resort to killing their wife and kid.

Lynnette was giddy about being given $20 to spend, yet Peter complained that she was going to bleed him dry financially. Then he has $6200 to withdraw from the bank?? I know quite well that you can nickel and dime your way to a shocking number at the cash register in Michael's, but from what she was showing in her videos, she was _a far cry_ from spending him into the poor house. The scariest part for me is that the women seemed oblivious to his plans.

@zerowheeler it's not the hobbies that put stress, they actually serve to reduce stress. Most years are totally fine, but some years when my dads business would make less money and we'd have trouble paying bills, that's when the stress went up because he promised her she'd never have to work, and even if she does try to find a job it wouldn't pay much. She has always taken care of the children and the house stuff, and our dad has always built/provided income and we had/have a big house with comfort, etc. So it is scary for him to feel like he could lose it sometimes if he doesn't keep the grind up. In later years when the kids grew up, he thought he'd alreaey be retired but he was still grinding while she could take it even more relaxed
Nowadays the house is basically paid for and everything, but he still stresses about money because it is one of his way to provide security to the family.
