The first time I ever heard the song, I was going into my freshman year of high school. That was in 1975. I can honestly say that since then, I have heard the song thousands of times. I can also honestly say that every time I hear it, it's like hearing it for the first time. That's the essence and power of good music. Rather than envy, I feel sorry for those who have never taken the time or had the opportunity to listen to the song for the first time.

Take notice of how the crowd reacts to Freddie. Also watch Pat Benetar's "Promises in the Dark." She trained as an opera singer, but with guitarist husband, formed her band. Awesome voice as well.

I'll have to check him out! Freddie baffled scientists(granted that's not always hard to do) by his ability. They actually did a study on him. Makes you wonder who paid for all that. What I should have said was that people like him are a rarity. Some of today "greats" just don't compare.

Fun fact. The line _"Scaramouche,_ _Scaramouche_ _can_ _you_ _do_ _the_ _fandango."_ Referrers to a type of marinette puppet with an extendable neck. These puppets were used for slapstick humor they were often villainized and then beaten until their head popped off their body like a rockem sockem robot. Fandango is a Spanish folk dance between two or more people, it can also mean a foolish or useless act.
It makes the song all the more meaningful that when he wrote it he was dieing of AIDS. From what I assume he thought was foolish actions. His regret and fatalism is rapped up beautifully in a kind of dark twisted humor and nonchalant nihilism.

      G'day,
Ah, nope..., it isn't possible for anybody to have been dying of AIDS while they were writing Bohemian Rhapsody...; that's chronologically impossible.
I was listening to Bohemian Rhapsody in (I think) 1977..., when I was a teenager in Boarding-School (& dating it by which Dormitory I was in when I first heard the song..!) ; whereas when Time Magazine first published the story of Aquired Human Immunodefficiency Syndrome ("AIDS") it was in late 1983 and they had not yet discovered the Human Immunodefficiency Virus ("HIV")..., but that was what they thought they were looking for....
In 1983 when the AIDS story broke, about the Gay Airline Steward shagging his way all around the World and the spread of AIDS being monitored by watching Caposi's Sarcoma spreading first among California's Gays and then appearing Globally..., I was a 3rd-year Student Nurse working at a Sydney Hospital whereinat 1/2 the Nursing staff were male (as I am) & 1/2 the Nursing staff were Gay (as I'm not), and there were some Bisexuals from both "Sides" who were playing for both "Teams" ; and I can vividly remember realising that the days of "Free Love" were over, because from then on in - Sexual Promuscuity meant risking a (then) untreatable and fatal Virus...
Most of the Gay men that I worked with, and trained with, are long-since dead...; but the big Die-off didn't begin till about 1984 or '85, and by '86 the Gays & the Needle-Drug Junkies were dying like Flies.
But, none of that was happening in 1977 - let alone in '76 when 'Rhapsody was written.
      Just(ifiably ?) sayin',
      Take it easy...
      ;-p
      Ciao !

This surprised me as I was sure most people have heard Bohemian Rhapsody at least once.
To prove my point, I started singing

Who sang it?" I told him that it is from Queen and it is a classic. Just feel sad that our youngsters is listening to garbage. After I left college, I gotten a job as a Media Literacy Trainer in Primary and Secondary back home in Singapore. There was this topic called Music Genre and I will normally played Queen's "We will rock you" to warm the class up before I played songs from other genres. Once I played the song, I could hear my students stomping their feet on the ground and singing along.

he was such a gorgeous man even in spirit and in person, this song is basically describing about himself (freddie mercury) where he sheds his old self and is proudly accepting his gay self and doesnt care what anyone else thinks. he was truly a gem of this world.

For the people saying they can't believe this young man had never heard of Queen, I am in my 60s and I am just rediscovering their music. Yes, I was around when they were at their peak, but in my world it was basically Motown and groups like Earth Wind and Fire, Gospel, etc. I knew that the group existed, but their music wasn't even played on the R&B radio stations in the South back then. We tend to know the music that people around us are listening to. And "Wayne's World"??? It wasn't even on the radar for many of us. In other words, sometimes it is a cultural thing. However, I am glad that I am experiencing Queen at this age because it has more depth and meaning to me than it would have when I was 20.

It's because USA is culturally insular. Isolated. It leaks pop-culture, but hardly any culture reaches its shores. That's very sad but it's being changed because of the Internet. It's gonna be better and better.

Good point..and i dont know if he has or not...AND...also i'd counter that with how hard it would be to nod your head to the different stylistic transitions in this song..is that possible to do the first time you hear it?? Think about the first time you listen to a song..even one that is consistent rhythmically and predictable it is still hard to nod to the beat...so to do that one the FIRST time listening to this song, if it is the first time well that is freaking impressive...Ill give him the benefit of the doubt though. Just wanted to see what your opinion on that is because you make a good point.

I want to THANK YOU sincerely for posting this. I was able to experience Queen for the first time AGAIN by watching your reaction. It brought me to tears. When I was a little girl this song was released. I recall my mom and I hearing for the first time on the radio. There was nothing like it -- I had never heard anything really like it. That doesn't sound like much from a child's point of view. But both my parents loved music to the point where we had so many records, and different types of stereo equipment, speakers -- this was the 70s. My dad played many instruments, and he sang, we all sang together at home. So you reminded me of all these good feelings I once had. Thank you so much. Instant subscriber!
