  • It’s remarkably easy to refill Mirai. Hydrogen refueling is a little different the refueling a gasoline vehicle, but it isn’t complicated. There’s a pump and a nozzle, with a keypad and an info screen. These modern hydrogen stations are a lot like your average gasoline station, with a few innovative perks. An in-car fuel finder app can help you find the nearest station and the hydrogen dispensers actually communicate with the vehicle to help ensure optimal filling. Mirai helps you fuel the future with confidence. Visit toyota.com/mira... learn more.

      @Autistic Boy lol, yes there are generators for home. I can use 60kWh of electricity from my solar panels to generate 24kWh of hydrogen (after compressing it to 10,000 psi to be able to put in the car). Then use a fuel cell that's barely 60% efficient to make it back into 14.4kWh of electricity to drive the electric motors in the car. Or I can just plug in my car at home like a toaster and put that same 60 kWh into my BEV and get 58.8kWh of electric back out to drive the motors.

    Did anybody else notice that the hydrogen was $14/kg in the video. The Mirai can store 5kg or $70 for 300 miles. 300 miles on a BEV is 75kWh or $10.32 worth of electricity. Yeah, it's more expensive til they figure out new ways of producing it. But don't assume it's environmentally friendly. Producing the fuel requires high energy inputs, no matter how you do it. Part of why it's so expensive. It's cleaner on the road, but when you look at life cycle, not so much. It moves the impact elsehwere, which would help decrease urban smog, but that's about it.

There isn't enough material on the planet to replace the cars currently on the road with fuel cell vehicles. This is a huge problem that needs to be solved before fuel cells can be viable. It also doesn't help that the hydrogen needs to be compressed to almost 10,000 psi in order to get the 300 mile range that most people are used to.

    It's great that it's a zero emissions fuel, but it hurts to watch all of the steps vs using a Tesla Supercharger. Also, you're still stuck having to use a station to refuel your vehicle versus charging at home with electricity. Hydrogen would probably be a better use case for long-haul (OTR) trucks.

      +About 47 T-Rexes I beg to differ. The way they are rolling out this technology is straight out of the corporate centralized oil cartels play books. They are putting these hydrogen fuel cell vehicles on the market but purposely making the fuel scarce by installing a very small amount of refueling stations sponsored by the corporate oil cartel.
      Who wants to purchase a fuel cell vehicle when there is next to no stations? Plug in electric seems to be the most logical alternative right now and for good reason but battery powered electric vehicles have many drawbacks, expenses and issues that Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles solve. Only problem is the limited access to the hydrogen gas.
      That will change in due time. Hydrogen can be created onsite and on demand using electroyzer technology. Honestly they could build an off grid hydrogen fuel refinery straight into these vehicles. Just add water and electricity and you literally make your own fuel for the car. The electricity can come from grid or renewables such as solar and with new electrolyzer technologies pumping out efficiencies 80 percent and above its practical, logical, and competitive with plug in electric vehicles. All the issues of yesteryear of needing to store the gas in ultra high pressure tanks to obtain the energy density to drive 300+ miles before refueling has been solved,very cheaply i might add with some of the polymer based hydride storage technologies now.
      A corporate sponsored centralized hydrogen infrastructure is not needed. This is the lie they have fed the general public. The problem is engineering this tech for decentralized use. They are not ready to give up their power yet but its inevitable.
      Where i am located in NC they have built dozens of massive multi acre solar farms all around me spreading across hundreds of miles of the state and every single one of them is pushing the electricity the farm generates back to a centralized power grid. These have been built in the span of just a couple of years. Each one of these farms could potentially become a small on demand on site hydrogen fueling station for locals around the area. The entire process could be automated and safe. No delivery logistics needed which drives operating cost way down. These types of setups could also be engineered to be installed right at the home of the vehicles owner, eliminating the need to go anywhere to fuel up. This tech has advanced on so many levels. Its now cheap, safe and efficient. The problem is and always has been that its a game changer to put that type of freedom and power in the hands of the average joes. H2 fuel cell tech is much better than plug in battery tech by leaps and bounds. Abundant sources of H2 gas is not as much of an issue as they have led all of us to believe. We just have to educate ourselves and demand alternatives to the idea of needing to replace the entire infrastructure slowly to accommodate and supply demand. No piping in or transporting of this fuel is needed no where on the planet.

      I own this car and I love it! My freeway work commute is 36 mile roundtrip and the past ten weeks have been a breeze. Here in California, we had 12 stations online when I bought the car in April. It's July and there are twenty open stations. True Zero is one of the companies involved in rolling out the infrastructure. I met the founder at a green mobility conference this past week, and he's definitely not with any oil cartel. Right now, 95% of the hydrogen made in the USA comes from natural gas reforming, but the wind and solar power generation to make electrolysis more competitive is improving rapidly. Keep an eye on Solar Roadways as they begin working with the State of Missouri on highways made of drivable solar panels, starting with a section of Route 66. And of course you've been to the Hydrogen House website, right? I am so proud of California's leadership in passing AB8 and helping to fund the hydrogen infrastructure.

    • @ikuep
      @ikuep 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This has been in planning for over a decade now, and hydrogen fuel cell technology for even longer. One thing's for sure, the commitment by these companies is undeniable. The number of hydrogen fueling stations is increasing at a slow rate, but it will increase more as we go along, and costs have been and will continue to drop. I think this will take time, but it will eventually catch on.
