- SCP 169 is a Keter Class anomaly also known as Leviathan.
SCP-169 is surmised to be a marine arthropod of enormous size, known as the "Leviathan" by generations of sailors and oral history.
Presumed at first to be a myth, SCP169 was detected by Mobile Task Force Gamma-6 during an investigation of paranormal activity.

For those who wondered why the foundation killed the witnesses of SCP 169 and SCP 004: The files were written before the idea of using amnestic is used on the newer files.
Also the scp 3000 wasnt discoverd yet
@@kostakonomi they had other amnestics than 3000. Also 3000 was only used for extremely top secret stuff (basically stuff that only the 05-Council is supposed to know)

@@kostakonomi One could assume amnestic classes work in such a way that the potency and subsequently how much you'd forget is dependent on what class you take. Anantashesha produces class - A amnestics, which aren't usually given to civillians.

I just love the narrator's voice of these readings it's so soothing even though most of the SCPs causing so much tragedy.
Or maybe we can be ourselves for it is a video on the internet. And even though there's so much tragedy that would usually be considered a bad thing, that is just something that man loves, destruction, chaos, and don't tell me you don't love a good book with a sad ending, and no filter for being alone, and the true colors being brought out on the internet for whatever reason, of course you enjoy it, and not to mention he's got a nice voice, I know I'm mere perception that is using the vessel of carbon-based meat with a little bit of electricity and calcium, but oh boy that voice.

SCP- 3000 is way smaller than the Leviathan, but it still could probably flood like 1/4 of the planet.

Same manner of wording. It implies that an organism of extreme power has more power or control to humans than humans have on it.
It's doing reverse wording. I don't have the exact moniker for it, but it means using a phrase and reversing it.

Fun fact about the Atlantis sub that not many people know: the sub's name was the Ulysses
i haven't seen the movie in years, but i dont recall them ever saying the name, heck i only found it out recently it had a name when i was seeing if anyone made it in the game Stormworks on Steam, so either it was never mentioned in the film, was only said once and then forgotten, is from a deleted scene, or is mentioned in the script/storyboard/etc

For all we know, the gargantuan bones we saw in Subnautica were from a baby (and if that’s the case, a pregnancy of such a species would likely last hundreds if not thousands of years).

It seems you're bit confused between Amnestics and Amnesiacs. Amnestics are used for wiping memory while Amnesiacs (the stuff used on SCP-169 Leviathan) are used for sedation.

This has become one of my favorite SCP stories, love the narration and set up of it all.
Interesting thought. Given the proposed size of SCP 169 and SCP 3000, each has to know that the other exists. I wonder if they each have specific territories and the other respects that? Peraps that is why 169 began to stir, it was drifting too close to 3000's territory and needed to alter course. It would be a terrible thing if they encountered one another. Even a brief meeting could easily spell the end of the world.
Nah, 169 is still ten Times bigger than Anantashesha. Now I imagine it to be it's housecat or something.
@@marysue9661 Indeed. 169 is one order of magnitude longer, and as such at least 1000 times heavier - thought given 3000's proportions, the likely ratio is much more close to 100.000.000-10.000.000.000. Remember, 3000 has a max diameter of 10 meters, while 169 is 100-1000 km wide, based on general crustacean bodily proportions, and roughly that deep.
The only way 3000 could deal with 169 is by sedating it with its excretion - whicb actually makes sense from an evolutionary perspective.
*UPDATE: As another user kindly pointed out - it's literally impossible for this creature to be any thicker than 3-4 km, given that that's the depth of the ocean. The only way that is possible is if its belly burrows into the crust of the earth.*
Going by a realistic body proportional estimate, if we assume that its thickness is say, 3 km, then we can make width estimates. Such a large creature would need a ton of water to get enough oxygen to survive, so it probably is more flat than round, to maximize breathing area. Indeed based on its age, a trilobite-like geometry seems appropriate, putting its width at around 15-20 km.
That puts the scale of 169 to 3000 at around 3,000,000 : 1. Still a blowout by a massive margin, but not as ridiculous as before. For reference, the weigh scale of a 70 kg (154 lbs) human to a regular garden ant is around 11,500,000 : 1.

I'm guessing this was before they started producing amnestics. Otherwise they wouldn't have had to sink an entire ship (edit: with the crew). And that would also explain why they didn't know how big the Leviathan was, as they were more limited in their technology!
I’m guessing the reason they blew up the whole ship was because they couldn’t have any chance of any single trace of evidence being left behind so if they only did amnesties they would of had the samples or if they took the samples there’s a small chance they accidentally left a sample

The bit about the biblical flood is weird too. There is no scientific evidence for the flood happening. Feels like the SCP should know that. It is the SCP, so it could be that there is such evidence in the SCP universe but the SCP covered it up. But then that should have been mentioned.

@@SirFlopsy TBF theres now a hub on the SCP site - Project Paragon - where the Biblical Flood *is* canon in a sense, they were just off on the timing by 400-500,000 years.
As to the Amnestics part IIRC early versions weren't always dependable & could sometimes be ineffective to the point it was only temporary, with rare cases of death occuring. So given how early this was (as suggested by its low number) sinking the ship with all hands really WAS the only surefire way to keep things under wraps at the time.
Imagine giving Leviathan ALL the drugs only to get it mildy high and it gets the munchies.

It will be too hard to explain to a ship of marines that they need to use amnestic’s to forget this event even with higher military clearance, while dealing with the documentation. Hell they might just fight back thinking that that is just a enemy ship impersonating a higher military status and just drug them to kidnap them for such information.
It was just simpler to kill them all and guaranteed the suppression of information

I think the SCP number is 3000 but its hard to remember them all. One of the SCP creatures is a sea monster 3,000 or so miles long and some of the amnestic ingredients are produced by its body. Imagine if that creature and the Leviathan were in a conflict with each other. That would make Godzilla fighting a similar sized monster in Tokyo seem like 2 ants fighting over a bread crumb.

The "titanic talon the size of the empire state building" was 5 249 to 20 997 times shorter than the length of the leviathan, really puts things into perspective incase the 2000 - 8000 kilometers wasn't enough.

There's a part at 14:38, where if you turn on the captions you can see a part of the script that was cut, saying "'What was that?' asked a member of the crew, standing shakily to his feet.", then it proceeds normally. I haven't paid much attention to the captions before, but it makes me wonder what other lines and sentences have been cut

The maximum size estimate for SCP-3000 is less than half of the MINIMUM estimate given for SCP-169--- which is itself only a quarter of its own maximum estimate. SCP-169 is much, much, much larger than SCP-3000... and also armored... and if it really is the biblical Leviathan, it is capable of producing such heat that the oceans of the entire Earth boil by its will. I uh, I think you can tell where my bet is going on that fight.

Why wouldn’t they just give the sailors amnestics
By its number you can tell that this is one of the earlier written SCPs back when a whole lot of the more modern lore hadn’t really been set in stone. In the earlier entries the foundation is much more trigger-happy with keeping secrets, amnestics weren’t a thing, D-Class aren’t anywhere near as prevalent, and the organization as a whole is much more morally grey.

8:37 Whoever wrote this bit didn’t do their research, carbon dating only works on dead specimens. If an organism is still intaking any organic compound, it’s gonna be impossible to carbon date. On top of that, carbon dating has a range in the thousands of years. Something on the scale of hundreds of millions of years would probably be impossible for living tissue. This is why it’s best to keep these kind of details for an SCP vague
