According to human rights lawyer Geoffrey Nice, South Africa's statements at the ICJ hearing marked a significant shift, asserting that Israel's actions demonstrate "genocidal intent" towards Gaza. Initially adopting a softer stance due to Hamas attacks, South Africa now alleges that Israel aims to destroy Gaza and its people. The court may identify an increased risk of genocide, potentially resulting in the protective measures requested by South Africa.
