He manipulates other people's emotions. For example if you're angry he can calm you down, or if you're sad he can make you feel happy. Along with his combat experience you'd think the Volturi would want to recruit him alongside Alice the way they already hired Chelsea alongside her useless partner.
The fight was garbage. They all start running ergo limiting Bella's shield ability. They all run without any tactics nor prioritizing the right targets. Jasper who has centuries of constant fight experience gets slaughtered in seconds etc. Alice wastes the first move by doing a useless kick and gets immediately taken. Carlile goes on a dumb suicide run etc. The wolves who are literally teenagers sacrifice themselves for vampires who have been alive for centuries etc...

Here's a theory that could melt in your mouth, not in your hands: the fight never happened because Alice didn't show him the fight, Alice only had a witness. Zafrina showed him the fight. While Bella Shielded the group from Zafrina's "vision".
Spoiler for anyone who hasn’t seen this movie yet, which if you haven’t where’ve you been? But I remember the multiplier gasps every one, including me, made in the theater when it was revealed that what we see here was Alice’s vision all along. One of my favorite movie theater moments.
