I've been painting for 70 years. I am moving into a smaller space so I gave away my oil, acrylic, and watercolor paint and canvases and after going through "art supply withdrawal" bought some inexpensive colored pencils, a mandala, a landscape, and a very complicated oriental coloring book, along with a good pencil sharpener. I know how to blend colors and can put some of my own glow on these coloring book pages. I also decided to get some watercolor pens and some alcohol ink pens as I use AI at home. This is helping me as using inexpensive supplies means that when I go back home next summer I will better know what I need to bring back with me. I'm glad I didn't give everything away. I'm sure your tutorials will help as I go out to my "New Studio" every day and practice something. You will be my motivation.
I absolutely LOVE to see an artist that shows off budget friendly options for their tools. A lot of major artists on TH-cam unfortunately show off copics and art supplies in their price range and for a beginner not all of us can fork out several hundreds of dollars for expensive supplies
Hi Sarah, I cater my channel to beginner colorists. You can probably see that if you've been watching some of my videos. I always show budget pencils and supplies first and encourage everyone not to get carried away with buying, especially if they're beginners. It can be so overwhelming. Happy Coloring!
Wished I had seen a video like this when I started, I went whole hog. Of course I started in the Pandemic so I did a lot of emotional shopping. A dozen coloring books, three full pencil sets, 24 Alcohol markers, various gels pens later. Still love it but I would agree - just get A book and something to color with. You don't need to buy a ton of stuff. You really don't.
You're right! You really don't. It happens to all of us though with any hobby I think. We gotta always have it all! I just wanted beginners to see that you don't need so much and there are a lot of great coloring books and coloring supplies you can get on a budget to get started. Have a great day and Happy Coloring!
Tried coloring a few years back and was discouraged, found TH-cam videos like yours a few months ago and now I’m coloring and loving it! Yes please to more beginner videos, I have no natural art talents so videos help tremendously!
I am so glad you're enjoying my videos. It has been requested by many that I turn this into a series so I will add more videos for beginners as soon as I complete the color along that we are currently doing along with my Facebook group. Happy Coloring!
Thank you so much. I agree with everything you have said.use the best quality pencils you can acford. I started with the smallest tin of prismas. also don't compare yourself to others!!! I am so guilty of this. I tell myself all the time "color like you are a kid". Jump right in and enjoy. I also found that co!oring helps me tremendously with my anxiety and depression. And just the dream if buying a new book lifts my spirits
As a beginner i've made a conscious decision to only buy 3 books. So far i have purchased one. I also went to an art supply store that has several brands in open stock and purchased 2 or 3 of each before i make a decision about buying a big set. I've been coloring for about a week, just using my different open stock pencils and learning what i like. I'm really enjoying your content.
I am a beginner and I just bought a coloring book, crayons, pencil colors and markers. I have no training and I enjoy coloring to relax and I love this video because I learned new things as a beginner.
I have been trying to get started coloring but went way overboard in buying coloring books and supplies so now i am totally overwhelmed until seeing your video today. Now with your list on supplies and coloring books list I will shop out of my own stock and start following you for instructions. Thank you for helping me reorganize my brain when it comes to coloring. I have all of the supplies you showed in your video today. So I chose the oil base pencils, a grayscale coloring book, a Jade Summer line-art book, some alcohol markers, and a small pencil sharpener. Thank you for the great video today. It was awesome!!!!
Oh this makes me so happy to hear! I knew that so many of you out there were feeling overwhelmed. I think it happens when we are in a lot of groups on Facebook and see all the things people have to color with. Or, even when we get on TH-cam and start watching "Coloring Haul" videos. It can become a very additive collecting hobby, but sometimes we spend more time collecting and not using what we have. I keep my supplies and coloring books at a minimum and especially did before making TH-cam videos. It's so hard not to want to buy everything though so I totally get it. Have a great day! Happy Coloring!
Just beginning to attempt adult coloring. I'm finding that swatching teaches a lot about laying down pencils in layers and using a gentle hand. Beautiful coloring books and great beginning pencil sets!! 💖
Thanks Pamela. Well, you know I'm new to coloring. I don't feel overwhelmed, but I'm eager to learn. I'd love if you would make a series for us newbies. I've been learning from your videos, I think you're a good teacher. I surely need to learn more skills like shading, matching colors, and highlights. I'll be coloring, leave white space for highlights and then end up coloring right over them. I keep practicing but I keep forgetting things I heard you tell us. So I know I need a lot more practice. I have messed up a few pages by over shading. Thanks for this video. So kind of you to share your knowledge with us.
Hi Deborah! I am so glad you're enjoying my videos and learning from them. We will keep practicing shading. Maybe if I do a video on that for beginners, I will do it so that it's much easier. Learning to leave white space and all of that is really more advanced. I saw your coloring pages and you're doing a beautiful job. Just keep coloring and practicing. You're already creating beautiful pages!
Having everything sounds great but I could never afford that not alone learn how to use all of them. I like using color pencils of different brands from cheap to semi costly. I like keeping it simple. Your video is very helpful
i've been coloring now for a little over 1yr and must say didn't listen and bought several books also primas, faber castell classics, artist lofts and so on and still haven't totally grasped the idea but i will keep at it until i can produce beautiful art like yours i
I have a ton of pencils and coloring books, but I want to be able to feel confident enough to pick up a book, particularly one with portraits, and do my own colors, not just follow a tutorial or color along to guide me, but just do it on my own. I think that’s what you’re talking about which is great. Like you said, not just Johanna Basford, but a book with people like you showed of Deborah Muller.
I have been coloring for awhile, you gave some great advice for beginner colorists! I think many times we over think coloring, and try to make things perfect. Going back to the basics is always a good thing.
Yes! Back to the basics...that's what it's all about. I think a lot of us tend to overthink things when we find a new hobby. We always just want to jump right in. Hopefully I made it much less overwhelming for many beginner colorists or even some that have been coloring for a few months or a year.
Very helpful! I just bought the first three sets of Black Widow and will get the skin sets and monarch next month! I am excited to get started and am so grateful that I found you on TH-cam! I don’t do Facebook so finding you here is wonderful! I am beginning and will binge watch all of your tutorials! I really learn from watching you color!
Thank you Pamela all your videos all so helpful. I am a beginner and come back to your videos all the time while coloring. The tutorials is very user friendly.
Thank you so much. That's the plan! I have already uploaded a few others. Here is the playlist. th-cam.com/play/PLCV050IiJShqP3QUd-Y-01yGs1k1IJsWY.html
I’ve recently taken up coloring and I’ve been poking around TH-cam for tutorials. I’ve found many many useful channels, but I’ve got to give you a special shout-out. I haven’t come across any channel with such extensive information to take you step-by-step from beginner to wowee zowee. Thanks so much! I’m not only going to subscribe, I’m going to donate. What a find!
Hi Pamela! I am a beginner colorist, I took the decision of buying the Brutfuner 120 square pencils after watching your review. Now I am also in your Facebook group and learning so much from all of you! Together with my Bruts I also bought the Dahle 133 as per your recommendation, and I am really happy with both the colors and the sharpener :) I have tried a couple of coloring pages from Crayola webpage, and now I think I will buy one of this amazing coloring books for beginners that you show us in your video. I am so happy I found your channel and your facebook group! Thanks for all the tutorials and the knowledge you share with us! Have a nice weekend :)
hi Pamela, words cannot explain just how much ive learned from your videos and as a newbie for the last few months ive started and stopped because i couldn't get it to look like something to show and i discovered your channel and have been at it ever since, pam thanks so much. the first thing in morning and the last thing at night, im with you and your videos.
Yes please. Would love how to’s using budget pencils for beginner coloring. This was a very helpful video. Too bad I’ve already gone down the rabbit hole purchasing books. Will try to curb my new obsession, thanks to you. Just discovered your channel and love it. Keep up the good work and great information. Chloe
The first video will be up tomorrow in my Adult Coloring for Beginner series that will follow this one that you watched. Just make sure you're subscribed so that you know when it gets posted. Thank you for watching.
I am a beginner. I am going to get 1 coloring book and a set of pencils. This video helped me a lot. I will let you know how I do. I also joined the Facebook group that has helped. Thanks for all your help.
Thanks for a great video, like your comments on pages to practise on or increase our skill level, sometimes I forget that and want pages to be right first time, I started in March when covid started and bought World of Flowers which I love but ready to try others now 💓💓
I am so glad you enjoyed the video. There is so much more out there, but do never leave Johanna's World of Flowers. It's one of my favorite books, but when you're looking to increase your skill level, it's always great to try new things and expand upon just flowers.
So many adorable coloring books!! 🥰 The big eyes just draw you in!! 👀 I used to do mandels almost exclusively mandelas. So relaxing!! Wonderful supply suggestions!! 😍
My pup got ahold of one of my prisma pencils. Now I want the oil pencils 😁 and a few new books. I have been coloring for years but I am learning a whole new way to color and new things .😁
I am overwhelmed by these things and I have been coloring for a little while. I’m trying to grasp the importance things I need to help. Thank you for all you do.
I'm trying to get started, and your videos have been very helpful. I bought some colored pencils, but started thinking of wanting to follow along coloring certain coloring books, I'm finding most people putting up color along videos are using the Prismacolor 150 set.. I'm thinking of just saving up and getting them but I'm acquiring a colored pencil collection pretty quick.."World of Wonders" was the first books I bought.. I stumbled upon the "Nice little town" series and Hanna Karlson and some Japanese coloring books.. I think I need to slow down though.. but it's been fun
Oh dear, I have so many colouring books 🙈 and you’re right, I do feel overwhelmed with them all. Great video and yes please, would love beginners videos to help with shading and making things pop. Also backgrounds too would be great. Thank you Pamela 😊
Thank you Julia. I do have some videos on coloring, shading, and making things pop, but would do an easier version for beginners if I continue with this series. I also have some videos with great background ideas as well. I have had lots of requests, especially in my Facebook group, to continue with this series so I most likely will start after I finish the current color along. Thank you for watching. This video may be helpful. th-cam.com/video/jn3AXSJgB-0/w-d-xo.html
Oh my goodness when I first started I just picked up a kidi colouring book and some Crayola then had spell of bad anxiety and got my first Johanha basford book , then from there it turned in to a hobby and I got prismaclors , now I have lots of colouring stuff but I still get overwhelmed sometimes .
I think we all get overwhelmed. I have lots of pencil sets now and other things, but I don't have nearly the amount of coloring books that most people have that have been doing this for much less time than me. That's part of the reason I made this video. So many are new to this and think they need all the things just to color which is so far from what is really needed to just get started. I love coloring, but there are only so many things you can color if you're using even one page just to learn and better your coloring skills.
Pamela's Passion for Pencils it's true I've yet to finish a colouring book , my problem is when I like a artist and then that's it I want all of them , but it's definitely not needed , same with pencils I still go back to my prismaclors , I only take a break from them to save my pencils wearing down to quick .
I'm a beginner and found your video very helpful. I was gifted a few sets of coloured pencils, fineliners and a few colouring books. I have found 1 other colorist had helpful videos but yours is much more to where I am at . Thank you so much.
Too late-I already got carried away! It was just too much fun... But I’m inspired to rein myself in and focus. I’ve just been futzing around with pencils, markers, gel pens and pastels. I’m going to look at my overspending as a commitment to doing this. Thanks for your sensible advice, which I was too late to follow. : )
I have to lol, 😂🥴😂 I have been watching coloring videos for about a year now, but the first time I saw “Adult Coloring” I thought it was about Porn coloring, lol 😂 needless o say , I am hooked, !!! I went to Fashion Industries HS in NYC , but after marriage and a 5 years in the Army....I never had time to color or paint. So now a million years later and a bit of Breast Cancer and Chemo, I started coloring again. Love your channel, your videos are so awesome 👏 so thank you sweetie. I may venture to try people, fairies 🧚🏻♀️ etc.... Thanks for sharing. Be well. Maddy NY 🇺🇸🤗🥰
I am loving your comment. I am over here laughing at your "thought it was porn" comment. I am so sorry you're going through breast cancer and chemo. I hope you get well soon and beat this. My husband is Stage 4 colon cancer and just recently found out the cancer came back strong. We are going through it over here because he is taking very aggressive chemo right now. Coloring keeps me grounded and in my "happy place", especially making videos and being able to share it with all of you. Thank you for watching. Happy Coloring!
Oh my gosh this cracked me up so much. There is pornish coloring books too. I'm no prude or anything but my kids are always around and my little niece likes to color with me too so those are a hard no for me lol I hope you are now in remission and healthy again.
Love Arteza pencils!!! I have the prismacolor pencil also but the constant breakage makes me give up on them. Arteza pencils works fantastic and the set of 72 is super affordable and you get a great variety of color and great quality and no more breakage.
I am brand new and definitely feel over welcome. I’m spending a small fortune and have barely colored anything because I feel like it won’t be good enough or I’ll ruin my beautiful book.
Hi Pamela!! I wanted to start by saying thank you for everything that you have done for the adult coloring community!! You are awesome!! I am a beginner colorist and this video fits me perfectly!!! I am very overwhelmed!!! I just don't know where to start!! I am trolling your youtube videos and trying to learn color theory and whatnot and blending, highlighting, shading, and just basically coloring. I am doing my best to learn and absorb everything you are teaching but it's hard to find time to practice with 3 littles running around. I have all the materials I need, I have so many different brands colored pencils from the 24 set Prismacolor to the 180 set of Soucolor I just got that I am currently working on swatching. I've gotten my 136 set of Shuttle Art in their case and swatched in a fairly decent color family order for my first attempt as well as a case, recommended by you, for the Soucolor. I have a several sets of dollar store brands in pencil cases and a set of Crayola. I have 2 sets of gel pens, my sharpener, electric eraser, white posca gel pens and gelly roll neon gel pens. I just got a case from Amazon for them and my neon and metallic colors. And my coloring books!!! I am in TOTAL LOVE with my coloring books and I am on a limited budget. I have gotten all my supplies over the past 3 months since I joined the adult coloring world. My coloring books and my colored pencils and cases are my babies!!! And I am honestly AFRAID I am going to ruin my babies by not being able to turn it into a complete work of art with color like you do!! I don't want to mess them up so I have just been finding other coloring activities to do like my swatching and watching your videos. It's very difficult for me to pick out a color palette for my pictures I have chosen to color. I just don't know where to start or how to get over the feeling that I am going to ruin my coloring books because I've done a terrible job. I know that practice makes perfect and I have PROMISED myself that as soon as I am done swatching my 180 Soucolor I am going to pick a picture and just do it!! Any advice that you could give me would be amazing!! I am also a member on your facebook page and I subscribed to your email list. Again, thank you for all that you do!! Hope to hear from you soon!! Have a blessed day!
Oh my goodness! Don’t be afraid to color in your books. That’s all the fun and enjoyment of this wonderful hobby. It’s also how you learn and improve your skills. Do you have a favorite book out of the ones you’ve bought already? Have you thought about having two copies of one book that you can use for practice and not have to worry because you know you have another? What about printing one of the pages out onto better paper so you can practice? Make sure you’re using all these wonderful supplies. Happy Coloring!
@@PamelasPassionforPencils Good afternoon Mrs. Pamela. I do have an old copy of Secret Garden given to me by my sister that I have thought about using for practice and then buying a brand new one to work in after I get a better technique. My favorite books are ANYTHING by Johanna Basford lol. My favorite by her is World of Wonders and I can't wait until I am able to get that one. I have lots of dollar store books that I think I'm going to start using for practice however the paper on those as you know are rather thin and aren't the best for blending if you have to use too many layers but I'm for certain going to give it a go!! I meant to tell you I also have tons of markers as well fine point and regular mostly sharpie brand but a few other's. I've collected most of my supplies over the past 2 to 3 months buying a few things at the time that my budget will allow. But honestly your youtube channel and the AMAZING way that you color is what got my passion for pencils and coloring going and I am so excited for that because it really gave me an outlet to use when I am feeling stressed and overwhelmed! I want to thank you again for all that you do and thank you for all the time that you put into all of your work, from your videos to your facebook page and your beautiful work!! You really are an artist!!I start online college next month at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke for Substance abuse and mental health counseling so I know that one day I will be able to help others the way that you are and I can introduce people to adult coloring. I will also have more money to spend on this wonderful hobby once I'm working and my 3 children ages 11, 4, and 11 months can hopefully join me!! I'm trying to get my 11 year old daughter and 4 year old son involved!! But again, thank you and I hope to hear from you soon. Btw my email is shandasingletary1981@yahoo.com I joined your email list but I wanted to make sure you had my address. Hope to talk soon!! Have a wonderful blessed day!!
Check my description as I left all the links there for you to find your pencils on a budget. Decide which ones you like first. I have videos on my channel for both the Black Widow and Arteza pencils. Then all the links are there for you. You can start with this video for the Arteza pencils th-cam.com/video/kGrVASpBo-U/w-d-xo.html or this one for the Black Widow pencils to see how they perform. th-cam.com/video/jn3AXSJgB-0/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching!
@@PamelasPassionforPencils mine too!! I actually got my set out and I'm going to do a page in Serenaiya by Cristina McCallister. I'm excited. This book is so different and whimsical and this will be my first page
I have been watching your videos recently. Im planning to take up adult coloring as a hobby. I have not bought anything yet. So this video is very helpful. I dont really want to buy a coloring book right now. So I downloaded some free coloring pages to see how I warm up to this new hobby. If I were to buy a coloring book right now, Im thinking to buy those that are numbered so I wont have to stress myself out on making a decision which color to pick. I believe I have ADHD (not officially diagnosed), so I might have a hard time making a decision. The pencil suggestion is awesome. But then I find myself carting most of the pencils you suggested, and now cannot decide which one to buy lol. I know I must not buy all, but I am a horder. I love the idea of blending colors. But I dont know if I have the skills to do so. I am eyeing the Castle Art brand. I read some really great reviews. And Im glad you made a video about it too. Thank you so much for sharing your skills on youtube. 🥰 I will make sure to subcribe and join your group once I receive my supplies. ❤️
I have been coloring for about 2 years. I love it. Your video was very helpful. When I have the budget, I will order those oil base colored pencils, Thank you, Pamela? 🌺
As a colorist, you can't go wrong with Jade Summer books. Now granted I use my markers in those books but there is something for everyone in Jade's books. I love them.
Am so overwhelmed! Was a graphic design major and had a lot of supplies. However ever time I tried to color got frustrated and stopped. I now have a lot of books and want to get past this! I am having trouble blending, seems like the pencils are too waxy or I lay down to heavily first? I already have prisma and Faber Castel. I recently bought crayons and have Arteza on the way. Thank you for the beginner videos and talking about being overwhelmed. Besides the layering problems, I was wonder what surface you color on? Hard surface? Love your channel. Well done!
@@bethbrady8146 When using pencils it does usually work best doing light layers! If you are struggling, look up Zucchini Kitty and Lucy Colors. There are so many amazing coloring channels that helped me. I have a table i always color at too.
Thank you for this Pamela, this was an excellent video, it's quite reassuring that this is very similar to how I started out. It's also really helped knowing about alcohol markers and grey scale books as I have recently got both without thinking about using them together so can't wait to see if you anything using alcohol markers in greyscale books, especially those with people in.
Fairly new to your channel...loving it. I chose Prisma before I watched this video. I have found wonderful coloring books by Joanne Sharp at Ollies for $1.99! This store has a big selection of discounted books. But after watching this video, I want the Mandela book. Happy coloring.
first, thanks for the video. I started coloring this year,by the time the pandemic started. I live in São Paulo, Brazil. I was very excited in painting so I bought some materials that I haven't even used yet. Books ,I bought 3 and I'm still discovering which kind of images I like to color the most. I am enjoying to color Rita Berman's illustrations and books from the series Nice little town . I liked the suggestions you made . Iwant to learn to color more beautiful and know how to combine colors. I think your videos are very good in that sense. I would like you to make more videos to help beginners learn more.My prismacolor pencils don't arrive yet, but until the end of september I hope they come.
I'm so glad you're enjoying my videos. I plan to turn this first video into a series for beginners so stay tuned and make sure you're subscribed to my channel. Thank you for watching.
I'm late seeing this video but I do want to say thank you so much for giving us a peek at some of the easier colouring books for those of us just getting into this wonderful craft/ hobby. There are so many gorgeous books but they are so overwhelming to even contemplate doing when your just learning new skills. I've jotted down the names of the activists and I'm going to order a couple for myself.
Thanks for this video. I am a beginner. I started with crayola colored pencils. I am a beginner but I have been copying drawing for my Sunday school class. I follow the colors from what I copy on the internet. Too bad I didn’t see this video until now. I have several sets. I just ordered a coloring book I was not aware of how many techniques. I will look forward and search out your videos.
I'm go glad this video was helpful. Check out the entire Adult Coloring for Beginners series in this playlist. You will find lots of helpful tutorials here: th-cam.com/play/PLCV050IiJShqP3QUd-Y-01yGs1k1IJsWY.html
wow- I had no idea you could get such great results with colored pencils on a grayscale picture! I need to try that. Thanks again for telling us about the Schpirerr Farben sale. I have had the 72 ct on my wish list for LONGGGG while but decided to splurge a little and get the 96ct!
this was super helpful! i LOVED that purple flower you coloured, as beginner i get a bit stumped when trying to colour flowers in different ways, i tend to stick to the easiest (darkest to lightest colour) which can be super repetitive for me especially when im seeing all these lovely photos of two toned flowers or different ways of shading the flower, like you have done! video idea: showing us a bunch of different ways to colour flowers? i think it could be helpful for beginners especially
I would love it if I were able to download the EXACT same picture that you are coloring, so that I can color along with your video....that would be awesome!
Great video, and I have been coloring for 5 plus years. I have black widows and Kerby Rosanes books. Also I LOVE Alice in Wonderland books by any artist/author.
This was great! I’ve spent quite a bit of money trying to but everything that I saw. I fell in love with polychromos so I’m going to stick it out with those. And also not buy anymore books! It would be great if you could do some easy background tutorials. I still struggle there. Thanks!
I am so glad you found a pencil that you love. Enjoy them! I have done some background tutorials on my channel already, but would be glad to do another basic one. Here is one that I did of a few: th-cam.com/video/0dsLA-QbSuQ/w-d-xo.html
I'm just now getting around to the beginning of this! I've bought a few books & even invested in my 1st set of PrismaColor Pencils! I've had them for over a month now; Yet I've not colored a single thing! IDK where or how to start!
I teach art at our local gallery & self-published 2 coloring books, do portraits, etc. & even I went whole hog on adult coloring supplies when I already had what I needed and so much more in my studio. This video should be required viewing! It could have been a bit shorter in my opinion, but it was great.
I'm a beginner of colouring. Watched your videos and got myself a set of 120 Arteza pencils. 😄😄 I would love to learn colouring from you with one particular colouring book page by page. Because I live in Hong Kong and lots of stuffs won't ship to overseas. I got Daydreams from your list and it takes a long journey to arrive. So, it would be most helpful if you could use as many pages as possible in one book. Also, early notice of what book going to use would be great giving me more time to get the book in hand. Thanks so much.😁😁
Hi i have never tried greyscale so I'm Def going to try them. I must look at ur colouring videos about wot colours go together I'm really finding it hard. Great video as always x
Thank you so much! Let me know any suggestions you may have for a beginner colorist video or anything you may want to see. It sounds like you may want a video on beginner shading with colored pencils. I would be glad to show you how to match up colors and blend them together with some of these "budget" brand pencils.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils also would u b able to do a video of wot the best case to hold ur pecils in or is it best to keep them in the tin wot the bw pencils came in. I don't no if that would b OK. And best wishes to u n ur husband n prayers x
Hello Pamela! Wonderfull video, thank you! I am loving your channel! I am from Brazil and here there are not much people teaching how to paint with color pencils in the net. So, now that I discovered you, I am very happy! I am just begining in this hobby, so I don't know a lot. Please, tell me, what is the difference between oil, wax and watercolour pencils? I mean, which one is for which use? I only have watercolour pencils, and I use them either with water or without.
Hi pamela im not a new colorist, been coloring almost all my life actualy what i struggle with though is i will start a page or buy a book but i dont commit to it i dont finish the page i want to color and finish my pages at least i wanna work at it and be good as you. What would you suggest?
It can be so overwhelming. I wanted to try to make it not feel that way and show everyone how easy it is to get started as well as provide you with choices on a budget.
I am pretty new and I wish I had seen this video sooner. I bought a million pencil sets and coloring books and now I have choice paralysis!! It's frustrating.
Do i need to get other products to use with my color pencils? I already know i need coloring books , but is colored pencils enough for me to start with
Phew! Thank you! I'm a very overwhelmed newbie to trying adult coloring. I used to always color with dollar store colored pencils so I needed to take lots of breaks. Your videos are so helpful for me getting a understanding of how to do this, I got a 48 set of your highly suggested artezas and wow what a difference! Now I'm working on how to make my coloring look like an adult did it and not a 5 yr old. Thank you for all the great videos in this play list and on your channel!
I see so many people being like oh I want [ insert list of complex colouring books ] but in reality that one colouring book will take months so they should get some pencils a sharpener and one book then by the time they have done a they will know whether or not they want more
Too late 😬 bought way too many supplies that I’m overwhelmed. Trying to focus on should I do colored pencils, gel pens, or markers. I jump from one thing to another. I’ve watched so many videos I’m drained. When I try to color, I’m not enjoying it. I’m just anxious the entire thinking about everything going on in the world.
I would suggest pulling out just one medium of your choosing. Close your eyes and grab just one. Then choose one coloring page and sit in a quiet place and just start coloring. Play some relaxing music in the background. Try to let it bring you in another place so that you're not thinking about all the things going on in the world. So many of us feel the same way right now. This year has been difficult but 2021 is approaching quickly! Thank you for taking the time to watch my videos.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils thank you for taking out the time to reply. I really want to learn about colored pencils. I’m taking your suggestions and taking the pressure off myself. BTW my name is Pamela as well. I did subscribe a week ago. I’m looking forward to learning more videos from you and about your style 😍

Great video as usual but especially years ago when I first started (and still to this day) I would run screaming into the night with the mention or sight of anything “cute” ... it might be nice to add some other ideas for beginners that are less “cute.”
Hi Katherine! Just let me know what kinds of things you like. I do have other coloring books, but it's difficult to find too many that are "on a budget" that have lots of open space. What kinds of things do you like to color?
@@PamelasPassionforPencils I think everybody has a preference for the kinds of things they enjoy coloring...that's a personal thing. I personally enjoy landscapes, nature, whimsical/magical & more painterly type images. My comment was more about offering up some other options to the beginners out there. I never gravitated toward the "cute" things because they didn't feel "adult" to me (and many images remind me too much of the "Big Eyes" paintings from the 60's-70's which I really didn't like), but that's only a personal preference. I'll bet there might be others like that and you might be able to lead them toward other options.
I’m a beginner. I have a couple different colouring pencils and too many colouring books. I wish I had seen this video earlier.
“How to spend money on coloring for beginners” would’ve been a great title for this video. Thanks for the tips
Have a great day and Happy Coloring!
same here!!
Nothing is funner than trying new pencils. I recommend getting them all. 😂 I spend my entertainment money on pencils.
Your video was so helpful! I’m a complete beginner. I had no idea what pencils or sharpeners to use. So thank you so much!
Welcome to this wonderful hobby and my channel. I’m so glad you enjoyed this video! Happy coloring!
@@PamelasPassionforPencils Thank you!
Crayolas are a wonderful beginner pencil. I still use these after six years of coloring!!!
I agree! Love my Crayolas!
I am a beginner and I just bought a coloring book, crayons, pencil colors and markers. I have no training and I enjoy coloring to relax and I love this video because I learned new things as a beginner.
Welcome to this wonderful hobby of adult coloring. I’m so glad you’re enjoying my videos. Happy Coloring!
I just ordered one of those books can’t wait to try it
I have been trying to get started coloring but went way overboard in buying coloring books and supplies so now i am totally overwhelmed until seeing your video today.
I chose Johanna Bradsford and Prismacolors.....
Your video is very helpful
i've been coloring now for a little over 1yr and must say didn't listen and bought several books also primas, faber castell classics, artist lofts and so on and still haven't totally grasped the idea but i will keep at it until i can produce beautiful art like yours
i
I have a ton of pencils and coloring books, but I want to be able to feel confident enough to pick up a book, particularly one with portraits, and do my own colors, not just follow a tutorial or color along to guide me, but just do it on my own. I think that’s what you’re talking about which is great. Like you said, not just Johanna Basford, but a book with people like you showed of Deborah Muller.
I am a beginner and you really gave some wonderful tips....thank you.....🦋
Glad it was helpful!
Excited to venture into colouring now. Before it felt daunting. Thank you very much
I am so glad this video helped you to feel less overwhelmed. Thanks for watching.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils i know i have alot of books and supplies, but i think it is a collective of time. And interest changes.
I’m late to the coloring game but I have to say you are one of my favorite colorists to watch and listen to. You are just great. Tysm!
That’s so sweet! Thank you! ♥️
Thank you, finally watching this playlist!
I totally get not wanting to do the Facebook thing. I am glad you found me here. Enjoy my videos and thanks for watching.
Thank you Pamela all your videos all so helpful. I am a beginner and come back to your videos all the time while coloring. The tutorials is very user friendly.
Please make an entire series out of this! You are a wonderful teacher! :-)
Thank you so much. That's the plan! I have already uploaded a few others. Here is the playlist. th-cam.com/play/PLCV050IiJShqP3QUd-Y-01yGs1k1IJsWY.html
I’m very excited and new to the coloring community. I look forward to your videos.
Welcome aboard!
Aww! This is the sweetest comment. I am so glad you're enjoying my videos and getting so much out of them. Happy Coloring!
Great tip with the grayscale books! I am just starting out with alcohol markers, and I think they are a great choice for exercises.
Yes please. Would love how to’s using budget pencils for beginner coloring. This was a very helpful video. Too bad I’ve already gone down the rabbit hole purchasing books. Will try to curb my new obsession, thanks to you.
Just discovered your channel and love it. Keep up the good work and great information.

Glad it was helpful!
You are so welcome!
I love your video, you are not pushing to over buy things. I am new and I bought the black windows colored pencils. Thank you so much.
Enjoy those beautiful pencils! They're one of my favorites!
Glad it was helpful!
I am just starting out an don't know i could blend an layer different colors togther i still have a lot to learn i love your amazing work
These videos are great. Please continue the series
This series has all the videos in a playlist. There are quite a lot of them. Enjoy!
I have to lol, 😂🥴😂 I have been watching coloring videos for about a year now, but the first time
I saw “Adult Coloring” I thought it was about Porn coloring, lol 😂 needless o say , I am hooked, !!!
I went to Fashion Industries HS in NYC , but after marriage and a 5 years in the Army....I never had
time to color or paint. So now a million years later and a bit of Breast Cancer and Chemo, I started
coloring again.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils oh no Pamela...I'm so sorry to hear this. I will keep you and your husband in my prayers as well.
BethAnn McGill thank you so much 😊
Love Arteza pencils!!!
Yeah I'm very new and would love some good pencils but not too expensive x

I am so glad you enjoyed my video. You will love those pencils! Happy Coloring!
I am glad I found you channel
Well done!

Great video Pamela. Thank you so much. Very helpful. 😊
You are so welcome!
first, thanks for the video.
I just ordered a coloring book I was not aware of how many techniques. wow- I had no idea you could get such great results with colored pencils on a grayscale picture! I need to try that. Thanks again for telling us about the Schpirerr Farben sale. I have had the 72 ct on my wish list for LONGGGG while but decided to splurge a little and get the 96ct!
Oh Brenda...you will LOVE those pencils! The 96 set has such a great array of colors in it. Enjoy your new pencils. Happy Coloring!
this was super helpful! i LOVED that purple flower you coloured, as beginner i get a bit stumped when trying to colour flowers in different ways, i tend to stick to the easiest (darkest to lightest colour) which can be super repetitive for me especially when im seeing all these lovely photos of two toned flowers or different ways of shading the flower, like you have done! video idea: showing us a bunch of different ways to colour flowers? i think it could be helpful for beginners especially
Wish I'd have found this video series when I started really enjoyed it looking forward to the others Thanks very much for your efforts?

Using prisma, and Colorit books, I remember once you talked about leaves, combining 3 colors for full color and blending. Which video was that??
I'm just now getting around to the beginning of this! I've bought a few books & even invested in my 1st set of PrismaColor Pencils! I've had them for over a month now; Yet I've not colored a single thing! IDK where or how to start!
Hi Erica, grab a book, your Prismacolors, sit down and just start grabbing some colors. What book did you get?
Working on wolf coloring book with white paper can you help just starting
Awesome information and do u photocopy the page first or color right in the book?
Thanks so much.😁😁
Polly, are you in my Facebook group? We are getting ready to start a Color Along and Deborah Muller has provided a page for us to use.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils Yes , I'm in your Facebook group . Thanks for adding me. 💓💓
@@PamelasPassionforPencils I have sc,bw and mc in black widow pencils and I would love u to do a video of matching colours n blending if u could x
@@PamelasPassionforPencils also would u b able to do a video of wot the best case to hold ur pecils in or is it best to keep them in the tin wot the bw pencils came in. I don't no if that would b OK. And best wishes to u n ur husband n prayers x
Sharon Maurice I do have videos like this on my channel already but would be glad to do more. Here is my favorite case. amzn.to/3bLFRZe

I'm so glad you're enjoying my channel. This video may be helpful to you. th-cam.com/video/rfqGEHcO6TU/w-d-xo.html

Would alcohol markers work for Maui Mermaids?
Hi pamela im not a new colorist, been coloring almost all my life actualy what i struggle with though is i will start a page or buy a book but i dont commit to it i dont finish the page i want to color and finish my pages at least i wanna work at it and be good as you. What would you suggest?
I feel like this exactly
It can be so overwhelming. I wanted to try to make it not feel that way and show everyone how easy it is to get started as well as provide you with choices on a budget.
Very helpful
Glad it helped
I am pretty new and I wish I had seen this video sooner. I bought a million pencil sets and coloring books and now I have choice paralysis!! It's frustrating.
It’s okay. Just sit down and choose one of your books and one medium and just start coloring 💕
I’m a beginner and your awesome. I’m gonna get carried away but this still helps 😢😅😂
Welcome to this wonderful hobby! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!
@@PamelasPassionforPencils I’m binge watching your videos so excited been up since 5am. 🤩😊
Do i need to get other products to use with my color pencils? I already know i need coloring books , but is colored pencils enough for me to start with
@@kristinacuster5571 colored pencils is definitely enough to get you started. Maybe just also an eraser and a pencil sharpener.
Oh no where did the playlist for beginner colorist go! I can't find it!
It’s still here. Here is the link: Adult Coloring for Beginners

Phew!
I'm not a new colorist but I do sometimes get overwhelmed with how to start a page and how to follow through with it
Has anyone bought Arteza pencils lately? I've heard mixed reviews about the newer pencils :(
I Have Some, They Really Are Great
I'm A Newbie.
But U Fund Them Creamy If That Makes Any Sense
I Love Them
She is gorgeous
I see so many people being like oh I want [ insert list of complex colouring books ] but in reality that one colouring book will take months so they should get some pencils a sharpener and one book then by the time they have done a they will know whether or not they want more
For beginners....the hair! Wings, feathers, all my nemesis. Create Space paper. Sigh. Headshake. Challenging for me
There are tons of tutorials on my channel to help you. I hope it helps make your coloring easier 💕
@@PamelasPassionforPencils I saw the fairy wings. I'm going to try that. Thank you. Great channel 👏 👍 👌
@@jujuandwamwams165 How awesome...we are both Pamela! I don't come across other Pamela's too often. I am so glad you're enjoying my channel. I do have lots and lots of pencil tutorials if you just go through my channel. Have a wonderful day.
