Bruh you must have forgot that if you are walking in the USA people think you are poor, meanwhile in Nederland it's the norm for people to walk.

This video makes Dutch people realize, how clean, well organized and easy going our country is. Despite all our complaining, we should recognize and be proud of our country!
You certainly should. I'm from Poland and I lived in the Netherlands for 3 years. Now I'm in Poland and I have really serious health problems. But your country give me strenght and hope to be strong and to heal. Because if I recover I want to live in this most beautiful country for the rest of my life. I will always be greatful to the Netherlands and your people have always a special place in my heart.

Still recent events have me worried our politicians are becoming too much like amarican politicians.
We need fresh blood in there.
Sometimes the IRS tax office is not so kind here but still not bad for entrepeneurs starting a business here. :-) But.....we are also not the country with the highest tax rates (yet) 😊

Yes you should appreciate the Netherlands. No place is perfect but at least the Dutch care more about their citizens than American s or other places.

It is sad that Americans who criticise the absurdity of their country need to go out of their way to appologise for their opinion, because other Americans then would think you are not patriotic. That's another bad thing about the US, the mad patriotism, as if you are in China or Russia. I am happy for you you found a good peaceful life. It's quite the thing to find. Also for people living in the Netherlands, believe it or not.

Please, over the course of years I had to contend with Dutchies who could not believe I prefer the US over the Netherlands. Yes I had to work for what I have but I lead a wonderful life, set up retirement perfectly for when I do so and able to help my family to move here and do the same.

Working harder than even you are, and dead poor. So please. Stop this big ego trip. You just went there where you could make money, praising yourself and not caring about the rest of society you're living and working in. You and your family are making a living on the back of others, be careful stepping over them when you pass them.
I grew up in inner city Chicago, lived there 25 years before meeting my Dutch wife while vacationing on a Greek island. Once I came to The Netherlands to visit the in-laws I fell in love with the place. Now, just after our 35th anniversary I couldn't think of a better place to live.
America has many great qualities, but for me/us this is easy living. From health care, vacation time from work, strict gun laws, great variety of cultures just an hour or two drive, etc...

I am born and raised in Amsterdam and I can tell you from experience that our strict gun laws made sure that everyone has a gun, except for regular people. Criminals have guns, terrorists have guns, all gouvernement forces have guns, regular people don’t. I’m unsure if the guns are the problem. Zwitserland for example has an extremely high percentage of gun ownership, but an extremely low percentage of gun related crime. Let me know what you think.
@@ramonschliszka6332 I know what you mean but strict gun laws doesn't and shouldn't mean no guns. People just have to jump through a lot of loops before they can get near a gun. In America every Tom, Dick and Harry can get one. And every time some people argue about more controls every gun owner says they won't take my gun from me. Go figure.
I can't advise it but you can get an illegal weapon for home protection and use it in case of emergency (home invasion and such) just have to face the consequences later. But then once you and your family are safe what can they really do?

What triggers me is the image painted of my country as if it where some type of Disneyland with considerable higher taxes. It’s not. We have our own problems as you know (because your part of “we”), some of them related to gun assisted crime. I look with great sadness to the US, that once was THE guiding country but now seems to be so preoccupied with republican vs democrat discussions that the political middle is disregarded completely. A sensible society is created by people with moderate ideas. These people can normally be found in the political centre. I hope the US can find themselves a president that can speak to that centre on both sides of the political spectrum. I wish all Americans voters to have a cool head and a warm heart in times to come.
@@ramonschliszka6332 Funny thing is that as few options the U.S. has (Democrats or Republicans) for people to choose from here I think we have too many with the result being that the winner of any election has to create a coalition with others so any laws put foreword always seem to get watered down. I guess trying to please everyone.

I used to live in your country, a long, long time ago. I've met a lot of great people, still have friends and family there, but I'm really disappointed in the way the US has evolved......good to hear you feel well in my country, enjoy....!!

The inevitable result of a 2 party system, after all the mechanics behind a 2 party system is division not unity. You're In or Out, Friend or Foe, Black or White, Right or Left(which doesn't exist in the US anyway) it's a binary system based on the English which has also turned into a mess.
One simple difference between the US and most of Europe.

There is only a handful of really attractive countries to live in on Earth, and NL is definitely one of those.
I've visited a few nice countries, but in terms of living, the Netherlands is definitely up there with the best!

I have moved only 65 km two years ago still in the same province and sometimes it feels like I'm living in another country. That's The Netherlands.

And man.. yea.. it’s amazing here.. I find myself always asking.. “why don’t we do this in the states?” Like American just seems to be going backwards.. and when you think about it.. it’s for no reason. Its like it’s a big powerful country ran off of fear.
I was talking to my mom yesterday.. and she was telling me how she had to use her vacation days because she got Covid, and now she has to accrue more.. and I was just… wtf…?

Gawd, you remind me so much of ME! I'm so glad that a young person feels the same way that I always did. My older sister (77, who lives in the gun toten red state of Arizona) came here in May and was astounded by how nice it is to live in The Netherlands. Sometimes we have to leave home and go far away in order to see the flaws in our own country. I love Holland also because it's so centralized to other countries. I used to try to go back home every other year and combine a vacation loop in some part of the U.S. with a family visit. I really, really love your attitude. There are lots of things I miss about America, but I'd much rather LIVE in the Netherlands. Thank you very much. New sub here.🌹

I am half German and half Dutch, living in Germany, born in the very centre of Amsterdam, grew up in The Netherlands, Germany and southern Spain. My father had Belgian forefathers, my mother came from Hamburg and I also grew up in a partially Indonesian family. After all those experiences I came back to Germany, thinking......the world is my oyster and in Germany I feel just fine. But as you said; The Netherlands is amazingly well organised, racism is not too alive, over 200 nationalities live in that country being themselves. I have been 3 times in the USA and liked every single time as......a tourist. I prefer Europe and Germany.
So cool that you've had the chance to live in all of these different places and experience all of these different cultures! And thank you for watching the video :)
I have just one advice when walking on a bike lane in the Netherlands. Walk on the opposite side, so you will see other traffic coming 😊

I just wanted to say that I was really on the fence about moving to the Netherlands, especially as a black man. I visited Amsterdam a short while ago and after being back in the US I just can't shake how hectic the state of the country is compared to the Netherlands. It feels like a sinking ship that I don't want to be on any longer. This is the video that motivated me to just say "fuck it" and make it my plan to move. So thank you.

Just been to NYC for 10 days, just as a tourist with my wife and son. Had an amazing time, and there is a lot to love, but darn... that city has a lot of rough egdes.... I mean, very interesting to visit but I wouldnt want to life in a place like that when im used to The Netherlands. The homeless, the traffic, the drugs use, the grime and dirt, the state the subway and other public stuff is in... darn...
I can definitely understand this perspective! On the other hand, from my experience of living there, I learned some of those cons you mentioned are the same reasons some people love it there haha. Really interesting.
Totally agree as a tourist amazing watching fast pace of life I don’t think living there is for me

You're gonna love it here. You may want to visit Groningen once in a while, or Maasstricht or Valkenburg. Beautiful places.
And if it's Hip Hop you like, the scene is very active in this country too. If you can play an instrument, produce music, or you're a dj, before you know it, you're connected with very united people.

America may be the most wealthy country in the world , but it is not the greatest That title should go to Norway, Sweden, Denmark Finland or the Netherlands . The trouble is that your country is so big that you don't bother looking at how other countries do things.
Areas you need to sort out are ----
1) Your gun laws --Carrying a gun does not make you safe , It turns you all into Wild West Cowboys. And now another child lies dead --another family broken for ever. It will only end when someone shioots and kills ex President Trump.
2) Sort out your Healthcare system,It is a disgrace that Tunisia Kenya Nigeria etc. have better health care than America.Canada is nearly as big as the USA has a proper Healthcare system for all its citizens. Why not America ?
3) Cancel the November mid-term elections , and appoint a bi-Partisan group of moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats to sort out the Problem. Divide the country up into 8oo Electoral areas , and set up a non-party Civil Service to run a n electoral system which is free from Partisan interference
4) Make what Trump and his cohorts tried to do last November a crime Have your President elected by One Person One vite and get rid of the electoral College . It is out -dated and certainly not cheat proof. If voting machines can be tampered with , go back to paoer ballots.
5) Vote Democrat for one term to sort out these problems once and for all. You cannot carry on having a huge country divided into 2 huge groups of people who hate each other . You have made your once great country un governable. It nearly became a Dictatorship in November 2020/ 2021

I am under the impression that more people from the US will leave the country due to the division between people, the lack of a safe and livable place to stay, the political and governamental breakdown. In short; it looks like the US is spiraling down on many levels, healthcare, work/life ballance, crumbling infra-structure, gun-control problem and the list goes on. I hope that this period in time will soon be over, meaning that the people can come together and unite as a nation, on all levels.
I agree with what you said.. it's definitely unfortunate. I have friends and family telling me all the time that they're down to leave.
There are no signs of things getting better, quite the opposite unfortuneatly
How about you stay where you are Americans? If you leave and come to other countries, you will ruin the countries you come to. Don't come, sort your own country first.

Hi Sam, I love your contributions on TH-cam! And what a coincidence: I grew up in Vlijmen/ Den Bosch but was born in Amsterdam 😂. I’ve been to the US many times, it’s a great country for tourists and if you are wealthy. When they talk about the American dream I’ve always thought that there is more of a Dutch dream (or Western European dream) in terms of equal opportunities in our region, even if you are born poor. I’m afraid there is too much division and inequality in your home country, leaving too many people (especially from minority groups) standing on the edge of society where they are not to blame. I’m glad I was born here, my parents didn’t have much, but the state provided me with an academic education so now I’m doing great. Like I said before in another reaction on one of your videos: you are a true asset to our society, so I hope you’ll stay here forever.

It must be really nice having friends and family back in the states. Even my husband still has family there that he misses. However with me Vlogging everyday, especially from the Netherlands for the last 4 years and I have a giant bulk of people in my life that have no idea what is going on with me. Living here I saw how a person can live with out being paranoid and scared of everyone and everything. Many folks come to live here and have such a nice idea of the states still even after years abroad, I don't know how they do it. I don't understand how they can call the USA home and still hold onto their previous life and connections. Even to this day people call me an Expat, and I tell them I am an immigrant. I don't consider myself to have the ability to go back to the states and have an equal QoL. Hell the Football is better here than in the states. It is bittersweet seeing folks move abroad and their family still is on contact with them on social medias and it took me moving across one city to lose contact with them.

Great video and reasons. I want to leave but not while my parents are here (in America). I also am concerned about not riding my electric unicycle. I go where that’s accepted. But I’d need to do a lot of research. Also shopping and shipping conveniences might be of concern.
I live in NYC - the only place in America I’m okay living in because it’s diverse and blue (for now).
I agree with your points but there is a farmer protest going on and the personal cost with less food in the groceries will be all worth it, so it's good to be prepared like buying some salad seeds or cherry tomato's just in case the situation continues or getting out of hand bc right now its vegging season

I'm relatively young and I've already seen a lot of the world. That's a privilege I have. I know that EVERY place on earth has something that makes it amazing. But I will never, ever move away from the Netherlands. Even though we're not as united a people as you say we are and there are a lot of things wrong with the country, it really is an amazing place to live.
I could imagine my view of the country is slightly different than a native Dutch person or someone who's lived here for quite some years. But I agree with you on this being an amazing place to live!
NL aint too bad, but i went on vacation to Denmark for a few months and it is just as good, or even better.
Less stressed people, and less of the typical Dutch work work work, money money money mentality.

The USA could have been much like the Netherlands. The Brits ruined that perspective in 1664 when they took over the New Netherlands colony and renamed New Amsterdam into New York.
Yeah, it's interesting to see how different the country could look from that perspective, but at the same time, the Dutch weren't the best example of a country during that time haha.

The Dutch invented the stock exchange and thus the inventors of hardcore capitalism as we know it. It is not the fault of the British but of the Dutch.

I feel like the elephant in the room which you can't really put your finger on is infrastructure. The infrastructure in America is the worst, and you don't realise it even after having experienced much better, or at least I didn't. Infrastructure and urban planning is just so far from our consciousness that we're not even aware of it and what a massive impact it has on every aspect of our lives. In America everything is built for cars, and the zoning rules and building requirements are the absolute worst someone could possibly come up with. It's literally illegal to build anything other than single family homes in the majority of the US. Roads have to be unnecessarily wide, homes need massive front yards and lawns which serve no purpose, walking is near impossible, and everything is just endless, lifeless copy paste sprawl divided into commercial and residential zones which are completely segregated, ensuring that nothing is accessible without a car and most areas are completely devoid of any life or culture. Sure, this lifestyle may fit _some_ , but in America you rarely get any other choice.
I agree heavily with this! It's really nice how many European cities have many of your basic needs within walking distance or easily accessible via public transportation. Whereas when I grew up in California, I couldn't imagine life without a car haha.

I lived in Curaçao which is part of the Netherlands till I was 16 years old and lived in the US for 23 years. I want to go live back there but I am a single parent of 4 teens and I am afraid if they will adapt. Also I keep hearing about the housing crisis but I really am drowning in debt and am afraid of the school shootings where I live in Texas. A 14 year old just got shot outside my apartment and I am so sick of all the stress.
I’m currently planning my exit. Giving myself three years!

You live 1,5 years in The Netherlands and you know already that you don't wanna go back to the US. That's really cool to hear and a big compliment for our country. As a disabled dutch man (using an electric wheelchair) I agree that The Netherlands is a great country. This country has good facility's and adapting pretty good for people with disabilities. No other country for me.

Now I have serious and severe health problems and I'm at my home in Poland but I hope that one day I will return to your country and stay there forever. That thought about seeing and living in the Netherlands again gives me a lot of hopefulness and strenght to fight and recover so I'm grateful forever to your country and the beautiful people who live there.

Haha, yeah I definitely enjoyed my time in Den Bosch, but we wanted a little bit more lively of a city, so Amsterdam was calling our names. But who knows what happens in the future, I may become a Brabantser again haha.

Youre absolutely right. I lived awhile in the USA, Canada, India and Australia. And i really noticed that the Netherlands is the best country to live in. The only thing that bugs me here are the people who dont see it or who take it for granted. I mean im not saying our system etc is perfect and some are struggeling for sure but to most who complain we really do live in 1 of the best countries in this world. Even if youre struggeling, its better to struggle here than somewhere else i think and thats not just in countries like Afrika or India but def the USA as well (except maybe for Denmark or another Scandanavian country).

@@exploringtheforeign Oh if i answer this completely it would be a very long answer. I try to keep it as short as possible lol.
In India I expected to be shocked (just like when I went to Brasil). I got an internship there to help at an orphanage. So I saw a lot of poverty. The city was very crowded, loud, smelly and everything that goes with that. I didn't feel safe. So it's very different and here I saw a system that broke my heart because it's such a beautiful country with a lot of nice, hardworking people with good intensions but not have much of the basics we take for granted.
Australia and Canada were both pretty close, especially the mentallity of people, what I know. You could see they're rich, developed countries with a system that works for the majority at least. I felt safe, didn't have big problems in both countries accept that the infrastructure was bad for cycling and public transportation wasn't as good as i imagined it and hoped (I came to realize it almost never is in another country though). In both countries it was very easy to get in contact with locals and they accept you pretty fast. It was easy to find a job and I studied in Canada. Overall I could live in both countries but the drought and forest fires in Australia and in both countries the infrastructure makes it less apealing there.
The biggest shock I ever got was when I lived in the USA. Because i expected this modern, western, rich democracy and I thought it would be more like home but it wasn't. Of course it was a little different in California (especially San Francisco which felt most like home and second is New York) but still shocking. I saw a lot of poverty shown at the streets, lots of addicts as well. The people I worked with were stressed, anxious, suspicious and constantely competing with each other. They were very friendly to me, it sometimes overwhelmed me actually but that's because they sometimes treat you like your best friend the first time you'll meet them. And of course in the USA people are not that direct so you have to really get to the point of asking what they actually think. Sometimes that's different. People always seem to be in a rush even when they weren't going anywhere. There was always traffic, people were always on the move and they didn't really seem to take a pause from work and just live. And even progressive America seemed to be more conservative than we are so that was a difference. Religion seem to be very important in the USA. That is difference here as well.
I think the biggest reason why the USA is so different than most western, developed, democracies is the social system and how democracy / the government works in your country. And I think that explains a lot of the mentality of people, the discussions and what is happening these days. But to be honest I think the USA really is the richest 3rd world country. And I don't mean to disrespect anyone but that's just the feeling I got back then and I think it got worse.
Have you only lived in the Netherlands and California or also in other states, other countries? And of course we know you like it here but it must be painful to see everything that's going on in the USA? Do you talk about it a lot with your friends and family? Because I sometimes have the idea that people in the USA live in this bubble and don't really know what's outside of the USA. And what did your family and friends think when you decided to live in the Netherlands?

I think one of the best things in the Netherlands are the financial safety nets for unemployment and medical bills which are paid for by taxes and compulsary health insurance. It does mean we pay higher taxes than in the US (as far as I can tell around 15% more on salaries up to 70,000) but personally I rather pay the extra 15% in exchange for guaranteed basic financial and social welfare throughout my life.

Taxes is always one of those tricky topics.. everyone hates paying them, but the benefits that they offer if used right make it worthwhile for some :) Not sure exactly how most of the Dutch feel about taxes, but I feel I've heard most of them being very proud and fond of the government safety net as you describe here.
In the Netherlands it is living between bands: you cant really get worse off but at the same time it is extremely hard/lucky to earn much more as tax rate goes high and society is set up to rarely pay out actual high salaries.

I’m from San Diego CA. Moved to Missouri and it feels like a whole other country, I love it, especially Kansas City people are very friendly compared to California. It’s just as you describe, laid back and it’s more about coming together with friends and family. I’ll never move back to California.

mile from the beach. 80’s and 90’s we didn’t have traffic issues but they warned us that we were growing faster every year after 2000. By 2005 it took 2 hours to commute 40 miles to/from work. All my family and friends are still in Diego so I visit yearly and that’s enough for me lol. Safe travels my friend! Enjoy life!

I’m 22 years old from Northern California and moved to northwest Arkansas a few weeks ago and really like it. However, I think I’d rather leave the USA eventually because of the things you mentioned I agree with. Im thinking of moving to Amsterdam maybe towards the end of 2023 or spring of 2024.

Different philosophy in USA. I am an immigrant .I lived in a country with socialized medicine and payed 30%-40% income tax,needed referral to see specialists and had a wait time of 3-6 months. Here,my tax rate is around 15-20%, I chose and pay for the health care that best fits my needs. I don’t need a referral to see a specialist and my wait time is 2 weeks, MRI- next day. It’s my choice! Granted services differ from state, and living in New England is a great area with lots of very qualified personnel. This state also offers good social benefits for low income people!

Thanks for watching, Lisette! And both these countries are very near and dear to my heart. For me, there's no one answer, it really depends on what's your vibe, what do you value most in life at the moment, etc.
I would say if you're looking for more stability, higher pay, and a bit more calmness, then the Netherlands is the better option. Just also keep in mind some of the drawbacks, like the weather, outside of the summer, it can rain quite often.
And for Spain, this would be the better option if you're look for more liveliness, warmer people (not saying that the Dutch are cold, but not as lively as the people in Spain imo), nice beaches, and weather. But the drawback with Spain would be lower salaries, not as efficient government/country overall.

Yes thank you so much for your response! I’m actually a Dutch citizen but have lived all over except the Netherlands besides a 6 month stint as a child! We live in Seattle so we are very familiar with gloomy weather!
Wife and I have the dilemma of a daughter in Oviedo, Spain. Another sister in Haarlem, NL. She just had our first grandchild. We happen to love NL too. Guess decision has been made by a 6wk old daughter!
It also depends if you have kids, the Netherlands ranks extremely high on happinesses for kids, has to do with a lot of independence when it comes to movement, school choice and a bunch of other stuff.
Since our bike infrastructure is so good, kids can bike around to school and back, to playdates with their friends and all that kind of stuff.
And since everyone owns at least 1 bike, we all know how it feels to bike and we know what to look for when driving a car.
Ultimately it also depends on the sector you want to work in, the Netherlands is a massive exporter, has a lot of IT and massive events.

What do you do that allows you to stay there. My fiance is from the netherlands and im trying to find ways to get over and to be able to stay. Everything feels so difficult to immigrate if you dont own ur own business kinda thing.
I received a residence permit through my initial job out here. My suggestion would be to look for jobs that could sponsor your stay here, another option could be you doing a registered partnership with your fiance, but you would need to look into the requirements for that :)
Good to have you here! What part of Amsterdam are you moving to? I live in Amersfoort, a bit like Den Bosch but whenever I visit Amsterdam I always have a great time. It is a bit different than some of the other cities in the center and south but the people are generally the same. Only the tourist parts are not as good, it just feels fake and unauthentic to me as a Dutch guy.

@@exploringtheforeign Ijburg is nice from what I heard, I lived in the South East of Amsterdam in The Bijlmer. A very nice place to live, if you decide to visit there I recommend looking up when there is a market at the Amsterdamse poort. It is a big center very close to the Amsterdam Arena, very lively and great food! Lots of different cultures with their own distinct “vibes” really make the place fun.
