We (people from the era) didn't turn over our furniture and wall-paneling every year back then. HGTV wasn't a thing. It's a mistake to try to make an 80s den and decorate it in all pop-culture objects and furnishings of 1985, that's not how 1985 *looked* to most of us.

Bright fluorescents were more late 80s/early 90s. Most of the 80s was a transition of solids and stripes from the dull Earth tones of the 70s to the colorful 90s.
