    • @KaysCutz
      @KaysCutz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Belinda, no you need to use 2 layers of wash aways stabilizer for each hooping because he has a satin stitch edge all round and you will need to remove all traces of stabilizer from the satin stitch border after you finish stitching or you will have paper fibres poking through the stitching. Happy stitching.

    brilliant project. Can i ask why you dont take it out of the hoop when releasing the finished pieces ?

    • @KaysCutz
      @KaysCutz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you pleased you enjoyed it Carroll. I find it easier to trim around the edge as the hoop holds it taught and it is easier to get into tighter spaces without accidentally cutting the stitches. It is personal preference, you can remove it anyway that you feel comfortable, there is no right and wrong way.

    After completing you nutcracker do you put the entire nutcracker and wash the stabilizer out? Are just the edges as shown.

    • @KaysCutz
      @KaysCutz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually wait until it needs a wash and do it then to be honest. It might take a few warm washes to remove all the stabilizer, so it it dries stiff or a bit wrinkly just wash it again. Once it is all out it will lay nice and flat. When gifting something to someone I always print a warning on a piece of paper about this and pin it to the back of the item just to warn them that this could happen the first time they wash it. I have heard of people gifting something and the person washes it but the item dries stiff or a bit wrinkly and the person throws it away rather than just washing it again to remove all the wash away stabilizer. I hope this helps you. Happy stitching.

    Hi, Kay. This is fantastic. As always, great directions. I have a couple of questions. What is the gold fabric you used? Is it a kind of vinyl? I love the shine. I was thinking of putting some cut-away stabilizer in between the batting and the wash away to give more stiffness so the nutcracker won’t droop or curl while hanging. Do you recommend this? You are such an expert; I will bow to your knowledge!

    • @KaysCutz
      @KaysCutz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Diane, my gold fabric is in the link below.
      www.remnanthousefabric.co.uk/product/stretch-mirror-foil-sparkle/
      Others have been using Lame
      www.fabricdirect.com/fabric-type/lame-fabric/
      You can use a layer of cut away between the batting and wash away no problem at all or even better you could use a bag stiffener called "Vilene Decovil Heavy" instead with or without batting, depending on how your machine would handle the extra thickness of having both. If you can raise your foot to 6 mm then you could use both Decovil and batting together is would only be a question of height nothing else. I use it a lot it is great stuff and well worth a place in your supply stash. You can buy it from fabric shops and is readily available. If you use it, loosen your upper thread tension by about 3 numbers to compensate for the extra thickness and resistance or you might break a needle if you don't. I hope this helps you. Happy stitching

    Why do you use 2 layers of stabilizer?

    • @KaysCutz
      @KaysCutz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Stabilizer is the foundation of your embroidery and is the difference between your stitch out looking good or not. If you don't use enough then your satin stitching will look rounded and uneven rather than nice and flat and even. You can save money elsewhere but don't skimp on your stabilizer. If it fails because you haven't used enough then you have wasted not only your stabilizer but anything else that you put on top of it. Not all stabilizers are equal either. Always use what the design instructions tell you to use for the best results. I hope this helps. Happy stitching 😊
