You might also be confusing the pattern, I was too since the instructions weren’t too clear. After the 6 stitches in the magic ring: Row 2: Two stitches in each stitch. The pattern is 2-2-2-2-2-2 etc. (12 total) Row 3: Two stitches every other stitch. The pattern is 1-2-1-2-1-2 etc. (18 total) Row 4: The pattern is 1-2-1-1-2-1-1-2-1-1-2 etc. (24 total)

my front loops dont stand out so well as yours
I was having this issue too for the central part of the flower (the flower stamens). You might need to use a thicker yarn so it fills more space
