I don’t live in America but I can confidently say that in Australia we don’t get taught any media literacy at all. Teachers assume that parents will moderate what kids can and can’t see, (which has become easier with screen time and parental controls) but at the same time, if your child gets 15 minutes a day on tick-tock, and that’s a limit you’ve set, you can’t control the content they are exposed to. I certainly know that some things I’ve seen at face value seemed real but when I looked into them, I found they were fake. How are we expecting children, who’s brains haven’t fully developed to understand that some people are not telling the truth. And yes, parents haven’t been taught media literacy either, it’s why they don’t teach it to their children. My predictions are that this problem will snowball. With misinformation and the idea that faking videos make you money, you really are incentivised to spread misinformation, intentionally or not.
I will never forget the poster I saw in a school councilor's office years ago: "Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you to their level and beat you with experience."

'block and move on,' although sounding passive aggressive, is really a great motto on the internet tbh. anyone who says something outrageous most likely wants to have someone respond to them. saved countless hours of my life by blocking and moving on.
It also triggers people like that way, way more. I've gotten the best DMs from people's alt accounts because I blocked them *and they took that personally.*
That ending was really... Something. It made me feel something that i can't really describe. The way you felt the grass (touch grass lmao) before just sitting up and enjoying your surroundings... It made me stop and reflect for a minute.
I think part of the reason we're so gullible regarding rage bait is that we've seen some truly awful, nasty, borderline psycho behavior in the past decade. A lot of the shocking shit we've seen that ACTUALLY HAPPENED is way crazier than even the most ridiculous rage bait.
i think its less that we are gullible, and more than we just have very low standards, at this point. most people know rage bait is likely just rage bait, but because of everything crazy thats _actually_ happened, it makes it harder to tell whats real and what isnt. reality is often stranger than fiction, thats always been true. but i think more people are aware of it now.
I agree, I unfortunately fell for the ragebait but mostly the disgusting problematic ones but bc of this it has HAPPENED before with crimes, terrible history, etc.. so that’s why my anxiety skyrocketed and anger at the same time I wish I wasn’t so gullible and sensitive 💀 I just didn’t like ppl poking fun of it bc it’s going to end up really badly for the victims/survivors ;(( (Ur comment deserves a lot of likes bc well said👍)
I cut back a lot on my trolling when it comes to real-life issues because a lot of the stuff I used to say to troll when I was younger has become some people's unironic socio-political views and I don't want to manifest any more societal degradation.
Also, just a reminder that social media will often push you things that will make you upset just so they can test your reaction. It is a human experiment, so stay safe out there.
Tell me about it- at the beginning of this video, we were asked ,” if you’re outside, and I tell you ‘gullible ‘is written on the ceiling. Do you look up?” Well I went out there, and guess what? NO CEILING! It was ALL a LIE! God it makes me so mad im glad this video has taught me about so many things to be mad about- it’s outrageous! But Im glad I can make those viral barefoot shoes- I made 8 pairs already! Jealous?
They push rage content because that's more likely to get people commenting and reacting and staying on the app longer and sucking their friends into it too. And then the rage content makes people miserable and disconnected from each other and they stay online longer and get angrier and angrier and the cycle continues
@@TrueEnergizerBunnies look at the rage bait of the mcu They don't even blame the actual person responsible for all the socalled "MCU is dead/woke" narratives They either blame China, Kathleen Kennedy or Brie Larson And Bob Iger himself took responsibility for all of it Yet channels on here who speak on it rather rage bait on small minded people who need a boogyman who isn't a CEO or Owner of the product they're complaining about Because no matter what side of the political spectrum each of these shill channels are on, they'll always defend their Corporate Capitalism overlords who gives them a small piece of the pie
When I was much younger, my dad told me how the coast guard would regularly get letters from people asking them to save the cast (thinking they were real people) from GILLIGANS ISLAND. I knew from then on how very, very stupid a not insiginificant percentage of the human species is.
I love that bit at the end, it helps put the whole getting upset about the internet into perspective. We do not live here online, there is a whole world that can only be reached by the internet if we let it
I feel like with me and Rage bait it's not "Falling for it" It's "I have seen some things on the internet far beyond human logic and general mental sanity that I put it past no one that this could actually be real."
I found so many nazis on tiktok, eugenics and advocate for slavery, plus a child advertising to the world theyre an adult attracted minor (The flipper roo for that is minor attracted person, yes its exactly what ur thinking) just on that app, physically cant report them bc tiktok doesnt actually care until you personally do it I cant tell who is or isnt bait anymore bc god everyone terrible out here
Yes, this is exactly my stance! I don't get mad or engage, but unless there's a reaaaally obvious tell, I don't consider anything out of the realms of possibility.
in some people's defense, there are individuals that are so genuinely deranged on the internet that you wouldn't even be surprised some crazy fake bs is real 😭
this is exactly the reason why rage bait works in the first place. but with the way it's progressed I've moved on to assuming everything is fake (which in the long run, if all people start thinking like this, serious matters will also not be taken seriously anymore :))) which sucks.)
The conspiracy theorists on tiktok take every clearly trolling joke by a celebrity or musician as "The truth" As if these celebrities or musicians dont have access to the Internet and don't view the outlandish conspiracies about them and then rage bait these same conspiracy theorists
As someone trying to get into an art-adjacent industry (graphic design) AI both pisses me off and terrifies me. Creation should not be made into automation.
I feel you on the art end, but I'm terrified of what it means for the spread of false research, especially going into the field that I'm going into. Skewed statistics taken horribly out of context, outright lies, and fake research papers that don't portray reality at all. Answers to questions given without proper context can be devastating. I deal with both human things and environmental things and uh- the meeting point of these two must be handled with great care. AI can speak the numbers, but it cannot speak the heart of the matter. The fact it's been abruptly let loose on the internet can and will have drastic consequences. Back to art though- I see art as a form of communication. AI isn't communicating. It's replicating and extrapolating. I have a lot of respect for artists and I sincerely hope we see a push for human artists in the very near future. I'll certainly be singing my support as best as I can. AI could always improve to be "better," but AI should be a tool. It should never replace the artist. We can push for a world where we support human-created content (or animal-created content like the stuff some zoos make with their animals as a form of enrichment). After all, what is the value in something created without even the most minute amount of intent? A mindless doodle has more value to me than a prompt-generated AI masterpiece. (Sorry, this went long. I really gotta stop commenting when I'm tired and it's so late that it's early.)
Same here. This whole thing is terrifying to me and I wish people would start banning certain AI apps. It’s always the digital artists, voice actors and writers that get the other end of the stick….
eh theres not much to worry about ofc there are some companies that will use actively use AI but its their questionable decisions and probably they didnt care much in the first place just do your thing
If it's not harming anyone, there's really no point getting upset. If it is harmful (the amount of animal abvse is insane) I'll comment on it calling it out (to let others know) and then leave it alone
What's worse is that that detail and brag contradicts the claims in the video by themselves. Why would someone who hates wearing shoes and finds them restricting own thousands of dollars worth of them? It's like they're making fun of us.
Yeah, it's also another sign of rage bait. They add unnecessary information to a video or over detail it. Like: "This girl almost hit my 180000 dollar tesla and smudged my Anastasia make up that I was wearing totally not because they sponsored me for this video., before running away." Instead of: This wack ass bitch hit my car and then tried to fight me.
I cannot find one person besides you who has pointed out the barefoot tiktokers are fake. There are _articles._ Insane that no one else has figured it out.
If people still believe in it they should do one where there feet are injured. It would probably get just as much rage views and maybe it would discourage people from trying it themselves if there is any. Personally I wouldn’t be surprised if there are people who go barefoot everywhere and think it’s worth the risk
@@lavaboatcubesupportsukrain7539 i’d rather that wouldn’t happen. People who actually walk barefoot properly realise what is fake news and what isn’t, rage bait is the worst
As someone who has been fooled by sarcasm more than once (sometimes even by “friends”), I hate this so much. I am such an honest person and just want to be able to relax online and assume people are mostly honest too 😢
when u find the good people, that is what the word 'church' in the Bible really meant. It ain't a building but a community of like-minded believers like u.
i genuinely deleted social media because i realized this exact thing. the only thing i use now is youtube pretty much. i’d rather be made fun of for being behind on the goofs than be subjected to being angry over strangers
Yeah, and people that get mad at someone walking around barefoot shows that they should do other productive things in their life. Like yeah, don't walk barefoot on broken glass and stuff, but why know/care about people walking around barefoot harmlessly? It becomes a problem about nothing (especially if people take walking around barefoot hyperbolicly as though people do it all the time.) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i think at this point many people can recognize when a rage bait video is fake, but they choose to engage with it anyway because it still pisses them off
I have some anger issues (not very severe now since i've been getting a good hold on it sometimes), i bottle up my anger most of the time though. I've fallen for rage bait, dont worry, many have at some point before noticing that its obvious :) Besides, many people who do "rage" on the very obvious rage bait videos have probably been holding uo alot of other pent up rage. Edit: Typos, the message that begins with "besides", and to add that you can make it easier to avoid them by disliking rage videos, clicking dont reccomend channel or this type of content. Disliking can be a bit more powerful to the algorithim. Since sometikes clicking " dont reccomend" alone won't work.
Actually now in Canada they have classes teaches us about how to spot fake news and ads including AI, we also are now required to do work on paper so that we can’t cheat with online stuff, not sure if it’s all across Canada though 😅
It’s really irritating that people will just lie online to get attention. I have no respect for content creators who deceive their audience. (“Obvious” rage bait doesn’t get a pass because there are still people who will fall for it.) I’m tired of social media feeling like such a negative place, and these people are part of that issue.
It doesn't help that many content creators pay for "click farms" to falsely grow their metrics that make it seem like they are getting more engagement than they actually are. This messes around with algorithms. Honestly, knowing that click farms exist gives me relief that there aren't as many complete dinguses online as it appears... But also, knowing that people falsely manipulate what videos get more attention makes me worry about the many toxic reason why people do it.
You can look for signs of it being fake and still be confused because it didn't outwardly stand out but it also was believable despite being a bit unbelievable. People and the internet in general have so much audacity to do some crazy stuff that sometimes you can't tell anymore because you've also seen all kinds of real insane things. Obviously there's a point beyond reality but there's so much grey area content online with almost no context so it's harder to tell if it's real because of that. I don't really engage in it much but I can't say I haven't because some really do make it too real. Most times now I'm just like okay just read the comments so I can laugh and move on.
The last part of the video is my favorite. At a climax moment, waking up in nature and reaching out to “touch grass,” and sitting up and just watching the day go by next to the trees and the stream. I don’t think that there was any better way to bring some reality and realness back into our minds in the midst of this rage filled world, so thank you ❤
I totally agree. The reminder that despite how much the internet affects the real world, there is still a real world and it is separate from the internet is very important. It showed that message very well without saying anything. An astounding bit of writing!
11:11 - Wait the teeth were fake? I was concentrating more on how that waitress can't possibly be real because they like something called "tips" and "not being chewed out by management" that I didn't even pay attention to the teeth

I legit thought it was a fake "social experiment" until I realized she was trying to pass her teeth off as real to her audience (I kinda spaced out just before the clip, so I missed what Frogbait said). Like, I couldn't help but notice her teeth were moving.
As a teacher, media literacy is one of the most essential things. Students as young as elementary age are getting information, news, etc., from TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram, and they need the ability to tell what information is right or wrong or deceptive or cleverly edited...you get the picture. We have to do better in how we educate our students. It's not just teachers who have a responsibility. It's parents, family members, community organizations, libraries, and folks in the community. The only way to collectively confront media literacy failings is to actively work together to educate them about doing more than just accepting that one video as the gospel truth. Share this video with every student from 5th grade to high school to college. Push the message of media literacy however you can.
Thought you'd like to know that in my rural small town we had a media studies class in high school, 12 years agoish. It was always full year to year and as far as I know it's still running (as of last school year anyway). It was the most valuable class I've ever taken and the teacher who ran it was a gem. Even uni education didn't touch the things we went through in that class. I talked about what I learned there with others who didn't get into it for many years afterwards and still do sometimes now. We talked about biases in documentaries and news, how things go viral, the polish of produced content and filming, wording in advertisements, and I'm sure a lot more that I can't think of off the top of my head. We even studied a couple youtube controversy response videos. I bet the class has changed a fair bit now because that teacher really believed in what he was doing and I've no doubt he's kept up with it, but there is in fact effort being made to teach kids about this stuff in some places. I just wish more students had a chance to take it, and that it would be mandatory these days. Edit: Man I haven't thought about that one musical response video in years and now it's going to be stuck in my head all night.
every funkyfrogbait is like a video feature article cause the content being exaggerated and very graphically descripted are every basics of a feature article, it's somehow opinionated that speaks for the general audience. I LOVE IT??? YOU COULD BE A FEATURE WRITER
Omg thank you for calling out that couple with the adorably confused Italian husband. I’ve seen so many of their videos come upon my feed and she’s so smug. “My Italian husband learned English just to talk to me after meeting me once and me living on a different continent, everyone be jealous!”
The bottomless shoes feel like a Toph avatar reference. If it was that, I would totally be ok with that. "Ah, finally, fashion for the blind earthbender."
I personally deleted TikTok and Instagram. I’ve been off of it for a month now. It’s been one of the best decisions ever. I didn’t realize how addicted and messed up my attention span was. The ads and rage bait were annoying as well, I know I sound like an old lady but deleting some social media is the best thing you could do!! Love your videos! 💕
As an actual old lady, I congratulate you dear! It’s so sad to see young people so glued to their phones all the time- it’s heartening to know some of you are taking good care of yourselves. ❤️
Got that right Never used Twitter (refuse to call it "X"), Tiktok, or Instagram, and I'm glad I don't My attention span still sucks, but it's ADHD People like you make me think that maybe humanity isn't doomed
I also deleted tiktok, with Instagram I don't use it much and X usually use it little as well. But TikTok was a horrible case, even just wishing that the 30-day limit after deleting the account would be extended, I don't want to create an account again or interact with their users, since deleting my account, I feel better about my anxiety.
Absolutely this. I haven't had TikTok since 2021 and I deleted Instagram in December. I encourage people to do this. It's free therapy. I am not some crunchy pick me something or other. I'm a normal mom who just decided it wasn't worth it anymore. I wanted to set an example for my daughter too.
Damn the ending of that has me feeling philosophical. I don’t know if you meant it like that but a big angry rant leading into suddenly waking up in nature really got me in my feels. I’m still waiting to wake up.
I think the reason rage bait has gotten more whacky is because there are so many more REAL people posting about doing insane things. I'll admit, I fell for the shoe people. But this is because there's literally communities dedicated to educating people about the horrors of a small toe box and fighting the crusade against a covered sole. A lot of them are *almost* as fanatical. Also, kids. It's all kids falling for it.
I live in South Africa, and seeing white people walking around town completely barefoot is so common it's an Afrikaner stereotype. So I wholeheartedly believed those people, it seemed weird and yet completely par for the course.
I'm gullible af. That's why I'm grateful for this one. Also, older people might be a little bit easier to deceive online. Like the very concept of "rage bait" hasn't even occurred to them (us). I think not growing up with the internet is part of the reason why.
This is exactly why I've stripped twitter down. I used an adblocker to remove the trending, explore and for you pages. That way, I can't see things that annoy me into responding. My twitter experience has improved massively since then, and by that, I mean I'm barely using twitter
i wish i could do that on Moblie, thats what i mostly use for twitter. but i just use the mute and block button if i see things that annoy me, so hopefully i won't see them again
@@mothwingthemedicinecat same here, i have 1k people (and some ads) blocked, its a slight fix but being physically unable to see the trending pages has really made the experience bearable again! hoping theres a fix for mobile soon, but right now, i dont even use twitter enough to need it on my phone
hearing the number 29,000 suddenly has my heart racing. 80-odd years sounds like forever to my adhd time blindness, but putting life expectancy into days makes me realise how much of my life I've essentially wasted
It is a wake-up call isn't it? I just did the math as a crotchety 56-year-old, and . . . 9496 days if I make it to 77?!? That's . . . Welp, time for a later mid-life crisis. I'll have to ask my partner if she'd rather I went with the flashy sports car (I don't drive) or an affair (which frankly, sounds like too much work).
hi just wanna say that i'm so glad i live in the timeline where you left an oppressive religious upbringing behind to be absolutely hilarious on the internet. you're so good. that's it.
I'm sending this to my friends. I've been very aware of rage bait as both a propaganda tool and just a general time waster. My dad watches some videos that have rage bait and I want to get him to realize the skew it has to get you to assume things about certain groups (Specifically he watched a lot of street interview videos that had young people be randomly asked math or science questions at events like pride parades and boardwalks and those said young people failing to answer the question correctly. the videos to me are obvious in that the people there are either distracted, inebriated, or camera shy and are typically young women and in a noisy environment. my dad isnt a hateful person but he has been muttering about the kids now being dumb and i pointed out how this doesn't show the full story.)
My biggest flex is that I’ve never gone the extra mile to comment or argue over a video that bothered me. Unless they did something that needs to be called out, but with videos like you’ve shown can piss me off but I just move on 😭
It works the other way too in a weird way. I saw a video today that said, "when you don't like elevators" and it showed a mom accepting help from two guys to carry her child and stroller up the stairs. It started with the number three taped to the wall to indicate the third floor and then cut to show them arriving at their destination with the number 36 taped to the wall. Almost every single comment was some variation of "this is so fake, the cars out the window are not 36 floors away" like it was some huge gotcha. Like...yeah? They are not actually on the 36th floor and they were not trying to make you think they were? They wanted to show a scenario they found humorous and were using the numbers to make it exaggerated. I was baffled by the people thinking they were detectives cracking the case. But I guess it isn't that hard to believe that if there hadn't been a window showing the ground, it would have convinced someone out there that these people had truly carried a baby and stroller up 33 floors for a 30 second video.
What amazes me is that every even slightly unusual story on reddit has a million people going "this is fake", which I wrote up a story that was literally physically impossible--like, it said in the story it was physically impossible--and people on the internet literally believed it was real. And I do not get the impression that these are necessarily two different groups of people.
idk reddit is just very fake so i kind of get it. especially aita and relationship advice subreddits are so obviously bait or something to make you feel smug and superior, at least the posts that get big.
@@overgrownkudzu personally I don’t understand the obsession with if a story is really true or not. So what if the scenarios are fictional? They’re entertaining, and that’s what we read them for. I completely understand it being the case in some subreddits like paranormal where you just want the real stuff, but in story based subs what’s everyone’s deal? I don’t understand why people care so much about whether the stories are true or not
@@Harudodopeople feel tricked and manipulated if they give genuine advice to someone they believe is suffering, and it turns out that the whole story is fake because the person just wanted clout or something. it's similar to giving money to a guy who says he's homeless and hungry, and then learning that he's actually well off financially.
I’ve posted a couple actual real life things that have happened to me - things that I didn’t think were that weird or out there - and heaps of people were claiming they were fake or trying to find the lie in them. Like sorry yall have boring lives, I guess? I didn’t think this was so strange but everyone out here claiming I’m lying. Wait until I drop the really weird crap! (I probably won’t, because I actually have real emotional trouble with people not believing me, soo….)
This was such a good video and I especially loved the end because often I get angry on the Internet and I feel like it teaches me hate, then must go out touch some grass and everything seems better in real life.

One thing about rage bait is that so many people showed their lack of common sense/brain/shame during the pandemic, that the videos seem almost believable at this point, it's almost less ridiculous than reality sometimes.

I genuinely dispise AI. I'm an artist so it's easy to see why I would be off the bat but it's just going to cause too many problems.
As someone trying to get into an art-adjacent industry (graphic design) AI both pisses me off and terrifies me. Creation should not be made into automation.
@@otakuinred exactly the creativity in creation will just evaporate

What makes me angrier about the first bait is not the absurdity, but the casual flex of how much their shoe collection is (if the price is even true).
What's worse is that that detail and brag contradicts the claims in the video by themselves. Why would someone who hates wearing shoes and finds them restricting own thousands of dollars worth of them? It's like they're making fun of us.
Well it adds up to the rage i think.
Also a lot of that shoe colection didnt look great. Theres a difference between "this cost us a lot" and "this is worth a lot"

I’m tired of social media feeling like such a negative place, and these people are part of that issue.
@@ivoryphoenix7 Yeah that’s what I’m saying dude! 😭
The last scene was so peaceful, it’s what we need
This is basically the only comment I seen that talked about that last scene.
The last part of the video is my favorite. At a climax moment, waking up in nature and reaching out to “touch grass,” and sitting up and just watching the day go by next to the trees and the stream. I don’t think that there was any better way to bring some reality and realness back into our minds in the midst of this rage filled world, so thank you ❤
I think I need to stop scrolling because all I saw was the first scene of LOST 😂
I totally agree. The reminder that despite how much the internet affects the real world, there is still a real world and it is separate from the internet is very important. It showed that message very well without saying anything. An astounding bit of writing!

They’re actually so funny
I'm sending this to my friends. I've been very aware of rage bait as both a propaganda tool and just a general time waster. My dad watches some videos that have rage bait and I want to get him to realize the skew it has to get you to assume things about certain groups (Specifically he watched a lot of street interview videos that had young people be randomly asked math or science questions at events like pride parades and boardwalks and those said young people failing to answer the question correctly. the videos to me are obvious in that the people there are either distracted, inebriated, or camera shy and are typically young women and in a noisy environment. my dad isnt a hateful person but he has been muttering about the kids now being dumb and i pointed out how this doesn't show the full story.)
also. they probably don't show everyone they interviewed. like they could be leaving out the ones that do answer stuff right.
you know what really boils my blood?
going on a space walk without a spacesuit!
Angry thumbs up

My biggest flex is that I’ve never gone the extra mile to comment or argue over a video that bothered me. Unless they did something that needs to be called out, but with videos like you’ve shown can piss me off but I just move on 😭
ok
ok chain cos why not

As someone always who fell for “gullible is on the ceiling” as a kid, yes, yes I will look up
It works the other way too in a weird way.

(I probably won’t, because I actually have real emotional trouble with people not believing me, soo….)
i love your voice, you sound like a newscaster and it makes your line delivery so much funnier
Fr tho
This was such a good video and I especially loved the end because often I get angry on the Internet and I feel like it teaches me hate, then must go out touch some grass and everything seems better in real life.
I’ve deleted tik tok about a year ago and it was the best thing for my mental health. Media literacy is at an all time low in our society frl
2:47 When I was 7 and my older sister told me that gullible was written on the ceiling when we were outside, I did. And I've had trust issues ever since.
Not the gullible thing but I was once convinced a pepper was pickle
My friend was the same but we were inside. I looked up
I looked up wh3n she said it to
That biblical clap back was amazing
Agreed
The dust blow 👌
👍✝️
5:02 omg can we please see you boxing that would be awesome
Ugh, you're just my favorite. The blowing dust off the Bible bit was exquisitely timed.

Imagine hearing someone younger than you say it 😭😭😭
11:31 That actually scared me HELP
I got chills from this part of the video, really helps you put it into perspective as well as ground you at the same time 15:00
Reminds me of an old saying.
"The lies are out the door and halfway round town before the truth can get its boots on."
Knowing it's bait is what makes me rage
This. It’s not the the content itself it’s the principle

Truly my favorite parts of the video. I was dying at the save the queen bit
10:38 too haha
Adore Kal's channel so much lmao😂😂
Right before the “mandatory training video” an ad popped up for manscaped that said “this is how u shave your balls” 😭😭😭
Nothing like my daily dose of internet idiocy slowly turning into existential dread!
Unironically though, this was a really good video and I hope you post more like it in the future
One thing about rage bait is that so many people showed their lack of common sense/brain/shame during the pandemic, that the videos seem almost believable at this point, it's almost less ridiculous than reality sometimes.
"Stop.......watch...and...scroll" words to live by!! Thank you Funky!!
The audible cackle I let out at your “god save the queen” line!
