  • Persepolis in 336 BC with 50,000 citizens.
Persepolis was the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid (Persian) Empire.
It was Cyrus the Great who chose the site of Persepolis, but that it was Darius I who built the terrace and the palaces. Was the residence of the rulers of the empire, however, a remote place in a difficult alpine region was far from convenient. The country's true capitals were Susa, Babylon and Ecbatana. This accounts for the fact that the Greeks were not acquainted with the city until Alexander the Great took and plundered it.
After entering or rather, invading Achaemenid Persia in 330 BC, Alexander the Great sent the main force of his army to Persepolis by the Royal Road. He stormed the "Persian Gates", a pass through the modern Zagros Mountains, and quickly captured Persepolis before its treasury could be looted. After several months, Alexander allowed his troops to loot Persepolis.

Great editing and music, but the Persian warriors are still inaccurate. Yes, they're a bit more accurate than the 300 movie abomination of an image, but when am I gonna see the real Immortals in their shiny scale armour or ornate rich orange vests with white flowers on them? But that's the choice of mod creators I guess. Achaemenid Empire is my absolute favorite.

It was nothing like Persepolis! In Persepolis, there was a Gate of Nations, with two big winged bulls at its entrance, today one of them is in the New York Museum. The music was Arabic, not Persian! And most importantly, that area was covered with grass and very green, which has dried up today

Have you visited Persepolis? Are there any ruins of a big city around the ruins of the palace? where are the traces of the wide alleys and huge statues? Do palm trees grow in that region? Whoever had prepared that silly clip was influenced by "orientalism" .
