- Took the X100VI out for the first time to shoot. Everything is in 6K 24p using the Eterna film simulation with some highlight/shadow curve adjustments in camera.
First impressions:
- built in ND is sweet, this is the closest thing to a mini FX6
- footage is very sharp, maybe too much, but you can adjust sharpness in camera
- Eterna is nice and very easy to grade, to the point where I might just ditch flog2 so I can shoot wide open at 125 ISO
- video tracking on the default settings can be finicky
- stopping down the aperture is not very smooth and makes changes in exposure very obvious
- the built in mic sounds surprisingly good
All in all, I like using this for video quite a bit. The built in 4-stop ND alone makes it worth it. It also takes some pretty nice photos too.
This used to be my photowalk everyday when i came home to visit my parents. Havent been back on it in 3 years. Thank you for this. Wonderful video friend.
Looks stunning!
This is for sure going to blow up
Very nice, good visuals, nice edit and music choice. Film simulation was cool,
Beautiful film like quality to the video.
eterna is a great film sim and has a lot of advantages over flog.
@@pillowpuffI just mentioned this to one of my friends about Eterna.
Name 3 @@pillowpuff
@@Geert890 160 iso versus 1,000, less noise, shallower depth of field, the ability to use film sims.
@@pillowpuff These days I mainly shoot in F-log2 because of the extra quality it gives on the X-H2S (14-bit readout), but yeah, Eterna is such a great film sim! Looking back at the raw Eterna footage of my X-T3 I am often blown away by the colors of it, especially the skin tones and the greens.
This camera is definitely underrated in it's video capabilities!
i like it a lot for video. i think the built in nd filter is a gamechanger... i hate fussing with one tbh.
Hii what’s tbh?☺️
@@CemCeyhan It's the acronym for "to be honest"
@@WhatThePheel Thanks👍
Very good! Love the Fujifilm color
Yeah this definitely convinced me that I want this camera now lol
what a fantastic mood!
Very nice. Can't wait to shoot video sequences with the X100 VI myself. As a street-, reportage camera, I use X100 series cameras since the 2nd edition. But now, it might become even a B-roll camera ....
This look reminds me a lot 80s , love it 🥰
These are incredible examples. Thank you for sharing!
I could've said you probably used a shotgun mic, but wow!! The onboard mic sounds pretty good!
Beautiful colours
Beautiful colors!
Looks like I have found my dream camera.
i was VERY curious with the video quality/capabilities, specially with the internal ND feature.
This looks amazing! thanks for sharing! cant wait to get mine lol
I can’t wait to get mine!!
great work
Looks awesome. Can't wait to get my pre-ordered x100vi sometime in the near future. Hopefully 😢
good luck! it’s a very fun camera and a pretty good hybrid.
This looks incredible!
Awesome !
looks good!
Really nice colors in the footage. Did you use any color grading after or just Eterna and adjustment of highlights and shadows?
eterna is pretty flat, i pushed the contrast a lot. settings are: chrome: strong, fx blue: strong, wb: +3, -5, highlight: -1, shadow: +2, color: +3. i applied a finishing lut from lensdistortions.
@@pillowpuffhow did you apply the chrome and blue in video mode ?
@@WhereToFind strong for both
@@pillowpuff how did you put that for video mode? I don’t see option for chrome or strong in video mode
Image quality is great, auto focus is as bad as it’s ever been. I would use manual focus for the wide shots with no obvious subject, the focus racking is obvious and distracting. It can hold a close-up subject fairly well though.
Looks great! Seems to have very noticeble exposure changes though. IBIS seems to be good enough for static shots
You have all the cool cameras, haha! I have to say the GFX footage does look better.
Amazing quality.
Are you using a tripod/monopod or all the footages handheld ?
all handheld, the IBIS is a bit touchy but it gets the job done.
@@pillowpuffdid u use just ibis or + digital too?
@@MichaelYoungKim mostly just ibis. i tried digital in a few shots but i don’t have a strong opinion on it yet.
@@pillowpuff i think on 0:06 you were using digi cause I do see little warping around the corners~ was hoping they would fix that lol
Nice.
Looks good!
What kind of SD card speed and capacity would you recommend to shoot in 6K?
i’m using a 256GB v60 card and shooting at 200MB/sec. a v30 card should be fine.
Thanks for sharing! What was your experience with battery life, recording time limits and overheating? Do you think the X100VI would work as a secondary sort of B camera for video in addition to being my daily stills camera?
i shot 450 photos and around 45 minutes of video over the course of 6 hours on boost power mode and the battery was red. compared to other cameras, it’s... not great. fujifilm opted for the smaller battery so makes sense. it does get a little warm, but i wasn’t too worried about overheating. for travel and having fun, this works for me, but if i were doing anything serious, i’d pick up a more video focused camera.
These colors look amazing!!! Did you use the in built ND filter to film this? :)
Correct, everything besides for the very last evening shots.
Are the files still 10bit if you bake in the Eterna look?
correct.
and does it also stay 4:2:2, or is that only in f-log?
@@ZiggyStardust005 you can shoot h.265 4:2:2 10-bit in any of the film simulations.
@@pillowpuff thanks again for the swift response! you think it‘s gonna stay 10bit 4:2:2 in all framerates, up to 240fps?!
very nice footage! What mist filter were you using?
promist 1/8
Nice man, did you color grade the video also? Or is this in SooC Eterna? I agree, the built in mic is actually surprisingly good hey?! Headed to Seattle in a couple of weekends and plan to put my VI through its paces there too
it’s mostly sooc, but i brought down the mids in the evening shots... the camera made it seem like there was much more light than there actually was. i was actually surprised how clean the footage looked because it was getting pretty dark. i’m going to keep testing but i’m pretty impressed with the low light capabilities so far.
@@pillowpuff awesome! Thanks for the reply 🙏
How was the image stabilisation.. was this all handheld?
all handheld with the built in IBIS. i tried the digital OIS for a few shots but it looks a bit wobbly. need to keep testing it but not sure if i’m a fan.
Im surprised there not alot of videos on the cameras video capabilities. Was Eterna easy to grade compared to f-log2
very easy. it’s fairly flat to begin with.
looks amazing! when did you order yours? i ordered mine a few days ago but it’s not looking like i’ll be seeing it anytime soon… also, did you use any kind of pro mist filter with this?
ordered around 1am during the x-summit. used a tiffen promist 1/8.
You should not film with auto exposure settings turned on. If anything moves or changes the lighting your entire exposure dips. Kind of ruins the filmic feel of the footage.
looks great, what eterna recipe do you use? can yo post your settings please?
i didn’t follow a specific recipe but made some tweaks for a more contrast-y look. chrome: strong, fx blue: strong, wb: +3, -5, highlight: -1, shadow: +2, color: +3. i applied a finishing lut from lensdistortions.
@@pillowpuff Amazing! What was your dynamic range set to? and white balance profile did you use? This look fantastic!
@@KasePrince dynamic range was set to auto and white balance was auto with +2 R -4 B.
were you using a pro-mist filter??
yes, 1/8 strength.
did you have a mist filter on this or something?
1/4
Is it handheld?
all handheld yes.
did you ise any filters? the highligt rollof is so smooth
tiffen promist 1/8
@@pillowpuff thanks for the swift response!
please do Leeds, England next
did u shoot that all handheld or some gimbal tripod work?
all handheld.
very impressive@@pillowpuff
did you use a recipe? any color grading?
i didn’t follow a specific recipe but made some tweaks for a more contrast-y look. chrome: strong, fx blue: strong, wb: +3, -5, highlight: -1, shadow: +2, color: +3. i applied a finishing lut from lensdistortions.
@@pillowpuff Absolutley love you video! Can i please ask what LUT you used?
@@KasePrince i used the eterna film simulation and made some adjustments in post, mainly a tone curve.
It's Fujifilm?
fujifilm!
autofocus on the V and even the VI is so terrible. defocusing in video looks horrible when it happens
i don’t disagree with you. it’s a little better on this one, but i need to keep playing with the settings.
when shooting video, dont even do the AF. manual focus can let the VI stand out a little better because of IBIS@@pillowpuff
@@RemmyMusic1 yeah i know, i just wanted to test their new tracking feature. fwiw, i think with the right settings it can be somewhat reliable.
Yeah it’s a bit overpriced for video
@@kimgonzalez1591 i don’t think it’s overpriced. not that many other cameras include a built in ND filter, that alone makes it worth it in my opinion.
Do you think this camera could be used for some simple video, even b-roll things?
if the video quality is up to your standards, sure why not?
@@pillowpuff Yeah, not sure what else I'd be specifically looking for with video. What's the main difference in video between x100vi and x-t5?
@@Flybeck the x-t5 has a higher bitrate, 360mb/sec while the x100vi maxes out at 200mb/sec. can you really notice the difference? not really imo.
@@pillowpuff Good enough for me! :D
Hy bro. the duration for 4k recording is up to how many minutes?
depends on your bitrate and storage. there’s no limit on recording.
Rolling shutter
6K has the most rolling shutter.
For the slow mo shots, what fps did you use?
everything is 24p, although i’m going to test the slow motion soon!
The colour correction is trying to kill my eyes. It's too aggressive. And rusty people in the frame, like from an iPhone, fix the skin colour at least
no idea what you’re trying to say, but thanks for the comment.
I think it’s cool but Sony A6700 will be much better when it comes to shooting video. Like the Fuji look though
i don’t disagree with you, but this camera is really convenient with the built in nd filter. it’s also sharper than the a6700 with 6K, if that’s your priority.
@@pillowpuff are there any alternate lens option for this camera or is this a fixed lens? Also are we able to edit the Raw files in Lightroom as of now?
@@jayantbishnoi9617 it’s a fixed lens, although fuji makes a wide angle and tele converters for 28mm and 50mm equivalent focal lengths.
Huh? Am I missing something. Not impressed.
Looks terrible
Wow this is beautiful, is this footage graded or straight out of camera with the in-built film simulations?
it’s the eterna film sim with custom settings.
Why is this video so bad, my Sony A6400 can shoot better looking videos in 4K.
lol kk
Great video! Did you preorder the X100VI on the first day it was announced?
I preordered it on the first day it was announced, but I'm still waiting. I can't wait to start using it!
yep, i preordered during the announcement.
Thank for sharing this video and the settings. It helps highlight its video capabilities. I agree that built in ND is such a convenience when it comes to video.
I don’t see myself using the 6K but I do want to see the 4K vs 4K HQ for the occasional video clip. My X-S20 is better suited for video.
right, i think 6K downsampled might be too sharp, but i had to try it out!
@@pillowpuff I know the filmmaker type people always say those newer Fuji sensors are sharp so I turned my sharpness & noise reduction down. I’m going to test it myself when I get one
i think x100vi is gonna be tiktok´s favorite camera
I mean seeing how the V Is…that’s a given
is this using the built in mic?
yep, the built in mic actually sounds pretty decent, better than sony imo.
It is time for Sony to get on the retro looking camera trend, Fuji and nikon both have them.
sony is not a camera company, unlike nikon and fuji. they have nothing retro to create. all they know how to do is make ugly consumer electronics.
Hi, I just received it. Can you confirm that if you start recording from the viewfinder and then switch to preview on the LCD screen, it stays in the viewfinder without switching to the preview on the LCD screen? I really hope it's not like that and that it's just a setting to change
