Hi @@DrewDarce, just wanted to add some extra encouragement, I think you're great at both breakdowns and technique videos. I'm starting to work your Darce->Triangle->Darce flow
Just wanted to add some context. I've done a private and some seminars with Rafa on the anaconda, and I've been anaconda'd by him a few times in rolling. I think he has the best anaconda choke ever, and has contributed a lot to the sport with that technique without getting enough credit. The way most of us use the anaconda in modern times comes from many of Rafa's innovations. Here's a video of Rafa teaching his signature anaconda details: th-cam.com/video/Nw2xfELw4wc/w-d-xo.html 10+ years later...I also think my friend and 10p Decatur black belt, Matt Skaff, has mastered the anaconda on a level that I haven't seen before. The week I posted this video, Skaff filmed an instructional on his anaconda choke, and connections with the guillotine and darce. I'll update when it's released. Skaff is a major hidden gem in the community, one of the best grapplers going, and I think he has the best anaconda details out there. Definitely check it out when it drops later this year.
What is the best thing to do here when you can't get the leg out (the position around 1:00?) ? Switch to an high elbow guillotine? Try to get the anaconda right away? I try to chin strap but I am not sure whether to use the blade of the wrist or use top of the forearm and sometimes end up in weird bottom positions. Also love your videos when they are super useful. Thanks
Hey, thanks so much for the compliment! If you get stuck around 1:00 and can't get the leg out, you can definitely re-grip in front of their shoulder and go for a guillotine. Also, you could stay patient and just kind of hang there. I feel like they've kind of got to make a move before you do. They don't have much by just hanging onto the lower part of your leg, and they may start to feel like they need to bail on the leg eventually anyways. If I struggle getting that leg out, I'll try and hang for a bit, or sometime re-grip on that guillotine, and you could even lift your head and kind of base back up for maybe a knee slide or a half guard pass. Does that help? Rafa also teaches how to get the leg out here a little bit: th-cam.com/video/Nw2xfELw4wc/w-d-xo.html
I think it’s a cool move but I don’t use it very much for two reasons. I just don’t have a lot of muscle memory on it because it was never something I did much, and I just think it looks a little crushier and less smooth and clean than the other chokes. That’s may sound kinda gatekeepish, and I don’t mind if other people do it to me, but I just don’t think a lot of the necktie variations look or feel aesthetically pleasing to me when I do them.
Love that his old spars are worth watching.
Really enjoy these hope you continue doing more
Will definitely keep it up! I’m in Alabama for the weekend but I’ll try and knock one out tonight!
Will have one live for you here tomorrow at 2pm EST, John: th-cam.com/video/77rplYTqn1c/w-d-xo.html

I learnt alot of matches from Tameem Hamoui and Baret Yoshida, their highground to crucifix just awesome
What’s your opinion on the Japanese necktie

@@DrewDarceI’ve been hitting it recently but I’ve been hesitant to go for it too much because I haven’t seen it work well in competition
I never realised that was tameem! Love his crucifix stuff
Tameem’s awesome, right?
