(based on statistics from dozens of cons in the last 15 years) legit? just being chill and genuine goes a long way. i personally know many of the individuals seen in the first segments of this video, in and out of suit, staff and attendee alike. in fact, in the background around 8:40, there's good friend of mine who sadly passed away since then. spotting him hit kinda hard and unexpected, ngl. i don't really like that you focus on it being a place only for people who 'aren't welcomed elsewhere'. yes, our broad acceptance of people makes that part of a bigger picture, but it feels like you're missing the bigger picture. i've had conversations at furry cons with aerospace engineers, doctors, lawyers, commercial airline pilots, software developers, one i know even developed targeting systems for military aircraft. we also kind of hold the internet together. are furries horny? i mean, *people* are horny, and not everyone is horny on main; for many, furry is the 'alt account' in their life, not their main. so they might choose to be more sexually expressive there, especially where it's less prone to judgement.

So for some context on the dealer's hall, they don't need to check your ID. It's already been checked when you registered for the event and picked up badges, most cons do this at registration. There's probably two ID badges you can receive, a Adult or a Minor badge. If you tried to enter as a minor without parent present, you would've been stopped by security.

There was another furry content creator explaining that you will have to have a badge to enter in that area of convention which sells 18+ stuff. Everyone under 18 will have a different badge that can't enter. You can see this also from the convention's websites i think :) so it was totally false information to minors be able to buy any 18+ stuff.

I'm not a furry myself, but I know friends who are, and they are some of the coolest and nicest people I know. Definitely goes to show that not everyone is creepy and weird, which I feel like is what many think ALL furries are innately. For some reason I feel like people think furries are always behaving like animals all the time, and maybe it's true for some, idk, but at least for the ones I know they aren't always in their fursuits 24/7 or something, and they behave just like anyone else does.

This video treads a very thin line. You can tell by the tone of the video that he came into the Fandom in bad faith, looking for the worst parts of the fandom. The intro is negative, and as a whole, the entire video suffers from "Look at this cringe thing here! Isn't it so cringe?!?" undertone. But there are positive upticks. I feel like if you had come into the community with an open mind instead of a predisposition that "It's all a sex thing," or even could have been receptive to the idea that your pre-conceived notions were wrong, as the viewer can tell you are struggling to find negative jabs to throw even in the outro. Yes, if you go and actively seek out the worst kind of people, you will find them. You can find people who legitimately believe the Earth is flat. But you have to go seek them out. As this video portrays. The 18+ vendor at the Artist Alley was a clear cherry-pick for anyone who's actually been to a convention. You found one vendor who didn't ID, and ignored the multitude that I'm certain would have, because that didn't fit your narrative that "Furries BAD." It's bad actors like you that come into the Fandom and do "Journalism" but leave your bias so heavily on the piece that anyone who knows anything real will dismiss it out of hand, and those who don't use this as one more piece to confirm their biases that get fed by pieces like this. There's a reason "Sigma Paws" doesn't get taken seriously. It's a clear indicator that whoever made the character is either a 13 year old edge-lord, or is operating in bad faith, making an intentionally cringe character to make fun of the concept, and real furries will instantly recognize that. I found Sigma Paws from his brief appearance on Alpharad's channel, and reflexively assumed it was a younger kid posing and throwing out threats at bigger creators for clout. And it worked, in Alpha's case. I respected the hustle, and then immediately dismissed it as an edgelord who might make issues down the road for the fandom if they push too hard. "I work on Wall Street!" Yeah, no. You'd call it being a stock trader, hedge fund manager, or whatever you actually do in the financial district, sorry, I'm not terribly familiar with the lingo. 200 days, and you couldn't even realize that that's the wrong field. It's IT, not Finance. And now I see this. I hope you at least enjoyed going to ANE. You're lucky the Dance Comp didn't kick you out the second you burst onto the stage. I guarantee you didn't change your viewpoint of furries as a result of "immersing" yourself into the culture, because you didn't actually let yourself into the culture. I may be biased- since I AM a furry, but most furries are very kind, very welcoming, very accommodating people. Yeah- Furries are cringe, and weird, and most of us are neurodivergent. The furry community is also a place truly accepting of everybody, a place full of artists, and writers, and poets, and game developers, and just GOOD people. I've been in the fandom since i was 12 and have never been made to feel uncomfortable. Being a furry has made me happier, has allowed me to express myself more freely, and has enabled me to meet a lot of my closest friends. I understand if you're made uncomfortable by the fandom- and that's totally fine! just don't interact with it. Just know bullying furries is not a net positive. Like- just talk to a furry for a little bit, see past the cringe. See that were just chill people trying to have a little fun.

So for some context on the dealer's hall, they don't need to check your ID. It's already been checked when you registered for the event and picked up badges, most cons do this at registration. There's probably two ID badges you can receive, a Adult or a Minor badge. If you tried to enter as a minor without parent present, you would've been stopped by security.

For some reason I feel like people think furries are always behaving like animals all the time, and maybe it's true for some, idk, but at least for the ones I know they aren't always in their fursuits 24/7 or something, and they behave just like anyone else does.

The intro is negative, and as a whole, the entire video suffers from "Look at this cringe thing here! Isn't it so cringe?!?" undertone. But there are positive upticks. I feel like if you had come into the community with an open mind instead of a predisposition that "It's all a sex thing," or even could have been receptive to the idea that your pre-conceived notions were wrong, as the viewer can tell you are struggling to find negative jabs to throw even in the outro. Yes, if you go and actively seek out the worst kind of people, you will find them. You can find people who legitimately believe the Earth is flat. But you have to go seek them out. As this video portrays. The 18+ vendor at the Artist Alley was a clear cherry-pick for anyone who's actually been to a convention. You found one vendor who didn't ID, and ignored the multitude that I'm certain would have, because that didn't fit your narrative that "Furries BAD." It's bad actors like you that come into the Fandom and do "Journalism" but leave your bias so heavily on the piece that anyone who knows anything real will dismiss it out of hand, and those who don't use this as one more piece to confirm their biases that get fed by pieces like this. There's a reason "Sigma Paws" doesn't get taken seriously. It's a clear indicator that whoever made the character is either a 13 year old edge-lord, or is operating in bad faith, making an intentionally cringe character to make fun of the concept, and real furries will instantly recognize that. I found Sigma Paws from his brief appearance on Alpharad's channel, and reflexively assumed it was a younger kid posing and throwing out threats at bigger creators for clout. And it worked, in Alpha's case. I respected the hustle, and then immediately dismissed it as an edgelord who might make issues down the road for the fandom if they push too hard. "I work on Wall Street!" Yeah, no. You'd call it being a stock trader, hedge fund manager, or whatever you actually do in the financial district, sorry, I'm not terribly familiar with the lingo. 200 days, and you couldn't even realize that that's the wrong field. It's IT, not Finance. And now I see this. I hope you at least enjoyed going to ANE. You're lucky the Dance Comp didn't kick you out the second you burst onto the stage. I guarantee you didn't change your viewpoint of furries as a result of "immersing" yourself into the culture, because you didn't actually let yourself into the culture. I may be biased- since I AM a furry, but most furries are very kind, very welcoming, very accommodating people. Yeah- Furries are cringe, and weird, and most of us are neurodivergent. The furry community is also a place truly accepting of everybody, a place full of artists, and writers, and poets, and game developers, and just GOOD people. I've been in the fandom since i was 12 and have never been made to feel uncomfortable. Being a furry has made me happier, has allowed me to express myself more freely, and has enabled me to meet a lot of my closest friends.
I understand if you're made uncomfortable by the fandom- and that's totally fine! just don't interact with it. Just know bullying furries is not a net positive. Like- just talk to a furry for a little bit, see past the cringe. See that were just chill people trying to have a little fun.

i've been in the furry fandom for 25 years.
"it" is at every convention if you look for it. not just every furry convention. Yes, even the comic, scifi, anime, and gaming ones.
You tweeted how every furry has been nice to you so far, and that's great! its a very unique kind of community that, rather than celebrating a franchise or genre, it celebrates itself and its own creators within the community.
but i feel like you took that kindness and trust, and to an extent, betrayed it. i really get the feeling that the people letting you into these private room parties didn't know they were going to be part of a youtube video getting hundreds of thousands of views. i feel you have wronged these people. at least, the ones that didn't know they would end up being used for views.

I’m not a furry, but I know some and many of my circles have some overlap. I feel bad for everyone in this video, they were just being nice and trying to help him find what he was looking for.

And the very comic stand he shows doesn't show any nudity or whatever and it would be quite simple for the people there to tell underaged visitors that those comics aren't for them. I'm a furry since I'm like 15 (I'm 27 now) and I don't even have a fursuit (what he seems to conflate with 'fursona'; like yeah, a fursuit usually depicts a fursona, but he made it sound like the costume itself is the fursona) or anything.
Furries may be cringe, they may be an easy target... but they saved my damn life. Without this fandom, I'd have ended it a long time ago. The friends I made, in the furry fandom have helped me find myself, helped me recover from addiction, and helped me live a healthier life.

But you get this many consenting adults together, there's gonna be some hanky panky. But that goes for any group of people at a convention. Go to a dentist convention. There's kinky shit going on. We get a lot of hate because of so much misinformation when really we're not much different than any other fandom.
